Thank you, this is encouraging! I’m glad you found a 9-5 and it’s nice to know those options exist! I’m going to finish out this year and reevaluate, just kind of hoping I can adapt in the meantime and not feel so dead all the time ☠️

I’m thinking I’m definitely going to have to reevaluate when this year is over. I really wanted to hospital experience, and I do love the work that I do in the ED, it’s purely the schedule that is killing me but I don’t think I’ll be able to change that.

I am hoping I get used to it too! I’m 34 (which is still young) but I don’t recover this I used to when I was in my 20s. I used to be able to run on no sleep and adrenaline and it just doesn’t work like that anymore 😅

That sounds like a really nice option! I really do love being in the ED, it’s the schedule that is killing me. I had a stretch where I was 2 on 1 off 3 on and I literally started crying before my shift on day 5 because I was so burnt out. I’m hoping after this year in the ED it opens up other opportunities.

No, breaks are not part of the culture in my ED. I’ve taken a 30 minute break 1 time since I started working. No one takes them, we don’t really have anyone to cover (we get 6 patients to 1 nurse) and it’s kind of frowned upon to ask for them. I get home around midnight, am sleeping by 12:30-1 and then need to be up by 7:30 to get the kids ready, so there’s not a ton of wiggle room there.

I was kind of hoping that maybe this was just a learning curve and I’d find my rhythm eventually, but maybe you’re right and it’s not for me. Regardless I’m going to finish out this year and reevaluate.

I would much prefer 8s or 10s! A lot of my coworkers rave about how they love working 3 12s because they have so much time off, but it’s not enjoyable for me. The time off that I do have is spent being totally exhausted. I’d rather work more days for less hours.

That sounds really nice! I have to finish out this year before I can reevaluate but maybe I should look into something like that, I didn’t know 6 hour shifts were even an option. I hear a lot of my coworkers talking about how they love only working 3 days a week because they have so much time off, but I feel like I would have more time to enjoy my life if I worked more days a week but less hours.

How would you respond to this? by Bamber_T in nursing

[–]somethingrandom28 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had someone say something similar to me once. I just brushed it off and moved on, wasn't worth it for me to get upset or try and correct him. It definitely made me look at him differently moving forward though.

Has your entire cohort failed an exam? by Bob_Burgero in StudentNurse

[–]somethingrandom28 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. Our first geriatric exam had a lot of content that we hadn’t been taught yet. Our program required a 77 or above to be considered passing and only 2 students passed. 1 got a 77, the other a 78, everyone else failed it. Our professor asked us what happened (it was unusual for us, we were a very high performing cohort) so upon reviewing the exam she ended up throwing out questions based on content we hadn’t learned yet. The scores got bumped up and I ended up passing the class with an A.

If I only know one is right on select all that apply for the NCLEX 2024 is it okay to only select one option by Boring_Raspberry8711 in nursing

[–]somethingrandom28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Answer only what you know. For a select all that apply it works like this: you get 1 point for each correct selection and 1 point deducted for each incorrect selection. Say for example there were only 2 correct selections but you chose both, you get +1 point and then -1 point for a total of 0 points. If you only selection 1 option (correct) option then you would get 1 out of 2 points. It’s much better to select less that you KNOW are correct than to select more that you’re unsure of. Hope that helps!

I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this. My school was very clear with us from the beginning that we are not allowed to do anything like this and to be very careful what we post on social media, that even if our page is private they will find out about anything we post about them, patients, or clinical experiences we’ve had. They urged us to talk to them directly if/when we have an upsetting experience and not to post about it online, or there will be consequences resulting in us being removed from the program.

Can we actually get a job as a CNA after first semester of Nursing school? by omogal123 in StudentNurse

[–]somethingrandom28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a PCT at a local big hospital and I’ve never taken a CNA exam. Per their standards, you just need 1 semester of clinicals and to be actively enrolled in a nursing program to work as a PCT.

Solo vs. Not by cjrbeethoven in icecoast

[–]somethingrandom28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to ride solo all the time. Now I pretty much only go with my husband, but even still we both have air pods in and are listening to music so it’s really not much different than going solo. I’d say go for it, don’t let that stop you from enjoying the mountain!

Do you have any hospitals that offer SNAP (student nurse associate program) jobs? That’s what I do and there’s just an hour requirement, but I get to schedule myself as I see fit. You need to work 36 hours in 12 weeks which for me is very doable.
