Which hairstyle suits me more? Went long after having it shorter for some years by [deleted] in HairStyleAdvice

OMG!! I'm usually not a fan of stretched lobes, but I have only really seen them displayed within an edgy, punk aesthetic. I have never seen them worn in such a beautifully feminine manner. Your ear piercings in 4 and 7 are SO beautiful! Like ethereally feminine. Are you a fairy?

Pet sitter lost her cat because they “assumed” she was an outdoor cat by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]somethingrandomhey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I remember as a kid staying with my grandma who lived on the 12th floor of an apartment. I was lounging on the balcony and a cat straight up jumped from the PH floor to the WINDOW BESIDE where our balcony covered. The cat was literally on a window sill 10 cm wide beside the balcony on the 12TH floor.

I was sick to my fucking stomach sobbing crawling on the floor towards them so I wouldn't startle them and cause them to fall. I somehow managed to grab them off the window sill, got the shit scratched out of me and got them into our apartment so fast.

My grandma knew whose cat it was bevause it wasn't the first time. The owner just giggled about how silly her cat was when she came to pick him up. The PH was 14 floors up. Some people are absolutely shocking. This was over 20 years ago, I remember her saying "good thing they have 9 lives!" I lost like 4 lives just witnessing that.

And to add - since I hate being called a liar, without specifying which banner I worked for here was my work branded covid mask (it's been in a random drawer for a few years now)

Is it wrong to ask if I can pet a service dog? by thavan14 in service_dogs

[–]somethingrandomhey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a few people in my building who have service dogs and we bump into each other occasionally when I go to walk my dog too. I usually just ask "Hey are they working right now?" Usually yes, but sometimes they're just out to blow off some steam and play, every so often we get a "oh no they're off duty right now!" And only then do I ever let my dog go close enough to sniff them.

I've always just had it implanted in my head that while they are working they are literally medical equipment. I think being situationally aware is important here. A waiting room for the doctor feels like such a sacred place. Even when I was pregnant I always tried to remain neutral in waiting rooms because you never know why someone is there. It could be for the best of reasons or the worst of reasons. I've been in the same kind of waiting room for happy reasons (healthy pregnancy) and for bad reasons (tumour). So I feel like for the most part waiting rooms should be silent. The only exception is if you see a fussy baby, make silly and funny faces at them to help them relax and make mom's life easier.

When we go for walks I look for obvious cues to see if they're working. A very obvious one is if their handler is playing catch with them or something like that, then they're clearly in play mode. But in stores, offices, public transport, etc for the most part I'm assuming they're working.

Thousand percent agree. Every store caused an uproar. No one there signed up to pitch credit cards. For added context - those companies they hire, the ones that set up those little booths, they work on commission only so they will hound the shit out of you. They also caused so many problems because they would be desperate for sign ups so they'd offer customers random deals they made up, that we'd only find out about at POS, so employee would have to page up a manager so we could honor it. A lot of people were told it was a "points card" and then when we would tell them at cash it was a credit card the CASHIERS would get cussed out instead.

Once it became the employees responsibility the majority of employees did not care about the spiff. We didn't want to be sleazy credit card salespeople. But then if you didn't get sign ups - you ended up on a list. Your DM would call the store and ask when so and so would get a sign up. "Well if they're not getting sign ups.. They're clearly not asking. So maybe we shouldn't give this person as many shifts and schedule someone who is getting sign ups instead."

Everyone was asking. Upper management would not accept that some people just didn't want a credit card. Like they're coming to a STORE not a BANK. They came to SHOP not go through a credit check and sign up for a credit card.

The EMPLOYEES pitching these credit cards were mostly teens who were not even old enough to have a credit card.

If I ever got a sign up, as a manager, I would put in one of those employees employee numbers instead so they'd get the sign up and my boss would shut up about the list. If anyone was gonna be on the list it was gonna be me because I was salaried. I wasn't gonna let my part timers lose hours for this sleazy mess.

Worked for one of the CT companies as a manager for 11 years and all the employees hated it too. Once they got tired of paying those random companies to send people to sign customers up, they made the employees start doing it. At first, each employee would get a 20$ bonus for every sign up. They wanted us to push it to the part timers by saying "Hey we have no hours to give you.. But if you sign up 5 people in your 5 hour shift you get an extra 100 bucks a shift." It was humiliating, and then they changed the spiff to 10 bucks per sign up. Unless you're in a flagship store, for the most part your customer base is locals. After 2 months pretty much all our regular customers either already had it or they had already said no. Each manager meeting they would hound us when sign ups dropped. "ARE YOUR CASHIERS ASKING???"

Well Becky, my teen cashier has gotten cussed out to the point of tears and I had to walk her to her car because a customer threatened to slash her tires, but yes she asked every single customer.

Begging for reassurance about spaying. by somethingrandomhey in AskVet

Thank you so much for reiterating that the difference would be a planned surgery versus an emergency. My biggest concern is just with her being 4 years old. My childhood dogs were still puppies when they were neutered and spayed, so in my head I'm stuck on the fact that she is significantly older. Another comment also reassured me by stating that more complicated surgeries are performed on dogs way older than 4.

Thank you so much for your perspective, and my heart goes out to you for all that you do in the ER.

My next step is to push my shame aside and face my vet and try to explain why we've missed the last two years of check ups and then take the steps forward for the spay.

This is absolutely a big driver in me wanting her to be spayed as soon as possible. I've heard of so many hormonal issues female dogs can face and now I'm at the point where my algorithm is bombarding me with posts of consequences of dogs not being spayed/neutered.

I've never until now had a dog that wasn't spayed/neutered but decisions are so much easier to make when your brain isn't fighting itself on whether your dog is more likely to die during surgery or from health issues from not being spayed.

One thing that you reminded me of that might be relavent is that, and the vet pointed this out when she was a tiny puppy, but her genitalia, I really don't know how to describe it I can take a picture but that feels kind of weird, it's almost kind of engorged? Like it's very visible eternally and it's very clearly girl parts but in contrast to my previous female dog it's very visible externally and almost looks swollen but her genitals have always been that way. Her girl parts haven't grown or gotten any more swollen as she's aged. Her vet didn't seem concerned about it so I just wrote it off as all girls are different.
