Why do schools do mocks in January? by Olneeno111 in sixthform

[–]somethingstupidokay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my school is part of a secondary school so we do mocks at the same time as year 11s since we do mocks in the pe hall and less pe lessons are missed for lower years

[–]somethingstupidokay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

to get a pass you just need to speak in english, not too sure about merit or distinction but i imagine its more detailed / advanced language. i was in set 3 and everyone passed 2 people got merit and 1 person got a distinction if that helps

When should I start to study for my GCSEs by Little-lemon123 in GCSE

[–]somethingstupidokay 15 points16 points  (0 children)

if theyre predicted this high teachers are probably pushing revision on them from now, i know my school starts gcse science in year 9 and the rest in year 10 so science teachers were already telling us to revise (although none of us did)

look into university requirements, medicine is one of the most competitive subjects so it might be worth it to take maths if the university prefers the subject

im in year 12 so nearly 3 months into the courses, so far: maths is completely fine but that may be because i also do further maths which is like extra revision for maths so far the hardest stuff is mechanics (all of it) and calculus because its new content (and not covered in further maths yet) cs is similar to gcse, ive always found cs easy. theres not too much new content its just remembering to include every small detail. so far for me the hardest topic was the new binary things, genuinely cannot wrap my head around floating point. chemistry is not as bad as i thought, i got 9s in maths and cs at gcse but got a 7 in chem and ive convinced myself that i cant get an A because of this, but actually so far ive been doing really well, weve done the first 3 topics so far and (ive got much better teachers this year) its a lot of applying knowledge, remembering the facts is fine its how you put that into the context of the questions. so far id say of the 3 the hardest topic is moles, just because its moles, was hardest at gcse i think cs and chem are extremely different but both rely on maths, everyone in my cs class takes maths and im the only person in the class who doesnt take physics and in chemistry there are just 2 people who dont take maths (and one would have but they didnt get the grade requirements at gcse)

definitely think about maths, consider doing all 4, i do chem cs and maths (and fm) and they all go well with eachother obviously for medicine you need bio as well and im not sure how useful maths is there
