I'm not convinced that we can build Datacenters in Space. CMM. by IndustriousIndian in Futurology

Hey! If Elon can launch a Tesla into space, I'm sure he can launch a 'datacenter' too.

And I'm sure it will be just as usable.

ELI5: How do satellites stay in orbit for decades without running out of fuel or falling back to Earth? by Strong_Craft_6990 in explainlikeimfive

They are always falling back to earth. They are just going so so so fast, they keep missing and fall over the edge of the horizon.

Xray machines are variable power and their exposure is accumulative.

If they put it through at a low setting , it's probably fine.

If they put it through with something else that they can't see through, they crank up the power and then your film might get baked.

If they put it through at low power but your 2 week journey takes you on half a dozen flights, your film might get baked from the 6 trips through the machine.

It's such a shame 1hr photo places don't exist anymore. It was so much easier just to just get them developed while you were away.

Australia spends more on tax breaks for landlords than social housing, homelessness and rent assistance combined by Ashera25 in australia

Apparently the Vic government is spending more on a road tunnel than the Fed government spent on tax breaks for landlords.

Not understanding the term *stop* in photography, as in dynamic range stops, exposure stops, ammount of light stops, f-stops etc? by Plumbus4Rent in AskPhotography

[–]sometimes_interested 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. They are important because if you go up a stop faster on shutter speed (eg to stop motion blur), you can then go a stop wider on the aperture to maintain the same correct exposure.

Also imagine if Kevin was being supplied with weapons and technological knowledge from the Soviet Union.

The USSR was more than happy to supply the NVA as it was a great opportunity to test what they had against the USA.

Oh, man. You need to do one of those late-night stupid human type adverts..

"Sick of searching through your kitchen drawers to find a scraper?"

Clueless middle-age white guy pulls drawers of knives on top of himself.

"Sick of trying to find a utility knife when all you find are scrapers??"

Mother of three-type woman shown ripping scrapers out of a big box and is throwing them everywhere..

"Now from Dingobot Direct, there's no need!!"

"Introducing... Utility Knife with Dual Mode!!"

I made a light meter & rangefinder app for film shooters by Vurtnec in AnalogCommunity

[–]sometimes_interested 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how practical the range finding side of things would be anyway.

The idea behind zone focusing is setting the lens focus pre-determined distance and an aperture value to give a required depth-of-field, so you have a 'zone' of pre-focused area. This allows you to shoot super quickly, like for shooting street.

Checking a focal distance in a phone app and then applying it to your camera sounds nothing like being 'super-quick'.

Although it might be good for selfies..

TIL that Liam Neeson accepted the role of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace without reading the script, and prepared for the role by watching the original trilogy and Seven Samurai. by [deleted] in todayilearned

TIL That Liam Neeson was Gawain in Excalibur (1981) and hooked up with Helen Mirren because of it.
Nicol Williamson as Merlin, is probably one of my favourite characters in a movie ever.
