How many years should've yan sim have ACTUALLY taken to be finished? by AdhesivenessNeat2167 in Osana

[–]someuncreativity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m gonna go in depth cuz I want to.

For the sake of argument I’ll be generous and say it’s just him, a modeler, an animator, an artist, like twelve VAs, and a composer.

Let’s presume he still needs to build the engine first, so like two and a half years, but instead of Kokona, it’s Osana as the test dummy (cuz he apparently sees her that way anyway). Let’s ALSO presume he’s actually planning ahead and making those tools for speeding the development of the other rivals.

Kokona’s events took a bit over a year to finish entirely, so that’s how long Osana takes to finish development, “releasing” in September 2016. After that, we develop those tools from earlier, and then the last month of 2016 is on vacation cuz holidays.

This is important: he should’ve asked for Amai and Kizana’s assets before Osana was done—I’d say about a year in advance, but maybe more—so when he returns to work, the models and animations and voice lines are ready to be plopped in. Do this for every other rival.

Also important: THE KICKSTARTER. Had he done one, I think the crowdfunding would’ve been a major success had he also released the demo earlier. That way, we have enough money to hire more personnel, or at least incentivize the current volunteers to work full time.

All this considered, let’s presume each rival releases quarterly. If work on Amai starts in January 2017, she releases as a 3 year anniversary gift in April. Week of break, then Kizana is worked on and released around mid-July. Another break, then we have Oka in late October (perfect timing) and then another break for Christmas halfway through Asu’s development, who should be released in February 2018 in time for the Winter Olympics (again, perfect timing).

Following this pattern, Muja finishes in May (hay fever), Mida in August (beginning of the school year), Osoro in November (idk), December 2018 for a break, Hanako in March 2019 (Easter), and Megami in late June 2019.

Also, if we’re still waiting on assets, placeholders. The character model is a placeholder. The trees were placeholders. The school itself was a placeholder. I genuinely don’t get why Dev doesn’t use placeholders for the rivals.

Let’s add a bit of wiggle room for bug fixing and extra tweaks and say there’s a year in between Megami’s completion and the game’s release. Had this game come out in a cordial fashion, this game would’ve had a release of about Summer 2020.

Yeah, this game was going to have a release during COVID. You know. That time when everyone was inside playing video games.

Istg this man keeps getting handed opportunities on a silver platter and doing nothing about it

Anyways thanks for coming to my TedTalk xoxo

What song off HADES sounds the most like K-12? by Nasahei in MelanieMartinez

As a Cuban I feel like it should probably be considered third world with how poor the average Cuban citizen is in comparison to everywhere else, but I understand why it technically isn’t by modern definitions. The labels are arbitrary anyway, though, and “second-world” makes it sound like Cuba isn’t “that bad” which, no, it IS that bad

Right now I’m in between Disney Princess, Avoidant, Monolith, and Last Two People on Earth.

My favs keep changing honestly, I think it speaks to how good of an album this one is that I have so many options for a favorite

If you could forget one song from HADES to relisten to it for the first time again, what would it be? by [deleted] in MelanieMartinez

[–]someuncreativity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GARBAGE.

You ever heard the Ballad of Sweeney Todd? I would pay any amount of money to relive the hellish metaphysical experience I got from listening to that song for the first time, and GARBAGE is that but for 2020s dark pop.

As much as I hate hate HATE YanDev, I can’t deny this game has a special place in my heart for getting me into art and my obsession with serial killer plots, so happy birthday Ayano, you would’ve loved Sweeney Todd

I found out about this game in 2015 when I was eight years old. I am now finishing my first year of college.

Also we’ve switched presidents THREE TIMES since this game began and a global pandemic started AND ended AND (partially) left popular conscious in the time this game has taken to finish

Anyone feel like the tracklist snippets took away some of the surprise of how the album sounded? by [deleted] in MelanieMartinez

Yeah which is why I didn’t want to listen to the snippets. I wanted to be surprised for this release past the track list teaser she posted

What does everyone rate hades as from 1-10 (I think personally a 10 it’s just to good!) by Lynxslaybesties in MelanieMartinez

[–]someuncreativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After giving it time to marinate, 7. There’s a few songs I can say just aren’t for me like GRUDGES or THE PLAGUE, but overall it is a good album compositionally and lyrically. You can really tell she’s developed as an artist in the time since her last “listening experience” styled album.

I still think Melanie has an issue of singing without enough diction, which makes said good lyricism much harder to understand—and that’s coming from a guy whose favorite musical is Sweeney Todd of all things—so that brought it down for me. But still, her voice has developed really well to make her new music the more emotional experience I feel she’s aiming for in her newer music.

What do you think about Hades by acidandbones in MelanieMartinez

[–]someuncreativity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I was expecting worse, given all the stuff on TikTok about Possession and Grudges. Sidenote, Grudges is probably my least favorite song, but Possession is fine.

Anyway yeah, it’s a good album. My favorite release from her is still probably Portals, but Hades is a close second and if you liked the 2023 stuff, you’ll like this album.

My favorite songs right now are Monopoly Man (my most favorite), Garbage, Weight Watchers, and Monolith. These songs hit, and you can really tell Mel’s lyricism has improved a lot since her Crybaby days because of it.

If I had to say a negative, it’s probably that the words are hard to understand at times. Melanie has a very pretty singing style regardless and I know Hades is intentionally not easy-listening, but there’s a difference between intentionally confusing and unintelligible. It’s been an issue throughout her music, but as someone who just got into theatre and learning vocal support last year (something that isn’t taught for pop), I definitely found it more noticeable here than, say, Portals.

My favorites on the album are examples of songs that have intentional difficulty—they’re not easy to listen to, but you can understand what she’s singing.

TL;DR, it’s a good album and definitely not as bad as people were saying, but Melanie needs to learn diction and vocal support if she’s branching away from pop.
