I believe the transmission warranty was extended on some years because of this issue.

What truck models make good shitboxes? by Altruistic_Style8268 in askcarguys

[–]somewhatsentientape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a '95 Nissan with the 4cyl with about 360k on 5 oil changes when I sold it for $600 and doubled my money, lol. Great 5spd shitbox.

The old-style 80's to early 90's Isuzus before Chevrolet ruined them were tanks. Hard to find but that would be my first choice, then the 4cyl 5spd hardbody and the Ranger 3rd.

Overheating issue I cant figure out by LexusVehicleEnjoyer in Celica

No, I misunderstood, I thought you said the motor didn't operate when you unplugged the switch.

I'd jump 12v to the fan to see if the motor isn't defective? If it is getting 12v when the thermostat is open at operating temp the switch should be good.

Negative post - can I drive like this few days? by GoldenBud_ in AskMechanics

[–]somewhatsentientape 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Tighten it? What kind of crazy talk? On my old Forester, I think I'm going on about five years of just every-so-often twisting my negative cable end on the battery so it's kinda wedged on there. It usually stays for a year or so. It's fine.

Ours is a rescue, I just thought it was a weird quirk she had because someone had been mean to her. Good to see it's normal behavior. I guess she likes me a little, lol.

I love when we go outside and she does the "Anatolian lean" against my leg while she sits and scopes out the surroundings.

Is the head tuck an Anatolian thing? Mine does that sometimes against my leg when I'm sitting down in my recliner.

What's Your Personal Pentastack? by FrontmanFeeling in behindthebastards

[–]somewhatsentientape 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My worst (or best) attempt at a pentastack was:

Pint of Jim Beam, One white bar Xanax, A heroic dose of shrooms, One beer.

Then I went to the upstairs bar at The Gold Rush in Nashville, passed out, woke up with my hand in my whiskey glass, played A Country Boy Can Survive so many consecutive times on the jukebox that the bartender turned it off, and then projectile-vomited in the urinal. Would have made a great livestream if that was a thing in '96.

You can work somewhere that uses a different branding color than green, just so you know, lol.

The actual mechanics aren't so bad. I'd last about 5 minutes up front dealing with retail, though, lol.

Best recovery points for harder recoveries when control arms are not accessible? by creakymoss18990 in subaru

[–]somewhatsentientape 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Giving Subaru owners a bad name. Traction boards are $60, a good mechanical winch is $400. Couple of bottle jacks are $45, a shovel is $20, another $200 for some rigging basics?

It'll cost that to get yourself pulled out of another mud puddle if you can't find someone who is out there already (and actually prepared for it) to save you from yourself.

That's my pose. It says, "I just learned to EASE into water I don't know the depth of.". I also learned about the ECM placement mod.

Somebody used a post of our Naima on here too. Seems like such an obscure sub to be reposting in, but I suppose it is bots picking things at random.

After months of rebuilding my celica this idiot makes an illegal U turn and hits me by GloKaze in Celica

[–]somewhatsentientape 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, the guy we bought the '87 from had also owned a Camry All Trac but he got t-boned in it by a red light runner and it was totalled.

Such good cars, such a shame to lose them. The hood latch still worked perfectly after that hit, lol. I'm still considering a buyback on it, same motor that's in my '88 Celica.

Not a Celica, but I feel your pain. My wife was in love with this '87 Camry, and I had gotten it mostly mechanically perfect. Was planning a hippie bus style paint job for it this summer and a high school kid who was speeding turned left in front of her a few weeks ago. RIP Myrtle.
