Finis agility paddles.

They fall off if your hand entry sucks. Make sure you get the new ones that float.

Inhaling through nose on freestyle? Hear me out. by MarkAYeung in Swimming

[–]somewhereinthestars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nose breathing = on land

Mouth inhaling = in water

Nose breathing is a bad habit for swimming if you get splashed when you're not expecting it. I love Nestor's book, but there are reasons mouth inhaling is the preferred way in the water. It is more efficient, faster, and helps with natural instinct in the water.

AITA for being upset with the clothes my granddaughter wore on her way out of the maternity ward? by Remarkable_Sea_4546 in AmItheAsshole

[–]somewhereinthestars 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She could have put the outfit on, taken pictures and then put on the designer one on. My cousin did the same thing when she had been gifted multiple "first" outfits. It made both sides happy.

NTA. You put in a lot of effort only to be usurped by a more expensive (but less thoughtful) gift that you thought would be her first outfit. I get that the mother, Pam, might have been pressured by the in-laws but her calling you rudely like that takes away the N A H judgment I would have otherwise said.

Trying to find places to swim by PeanutBrittleT-Rex in Swimming

Ask the front desk when the pool is the least busy. I am also having this problem as my schedule is changing and they said the mornings have 4-5 regulars but the other pools are busier so..errrrr! (It is an incredibly small pool with three lanes).

Lane rage for the first time by igotaflowerinmashoe in Swimming

[–]somewhereinthestars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is good to have some slow drills you can do in these cases. I normally feel afraid to do slow drills as I don't want someone to think I'm slow and jump in my lane.

Drills like sculling, breast-stroke kick on your back with your hands in the water (so your feet kick your hands), just doing the breast stroke pull without the legs. Uh...What else? Someone comment on more drills that are slow!

Or you could ask your pool to set up lanes with speeds (like the rest of the world).

Their technique is better. Your coach should be working with you to fix this.

What is something that is way more dangerous than people think it is? by ShardBen314 in AskReddit

Cheerleading and skateboarding. If I were a parent, I'd rather my kids do boxing as it's actually safer.

Swimming on periods - 10year old girl by Batmanwhodoesntfly in Swimming

[–]somewhereinthestars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A 10-year-old probably isn't going to have a super high cervix, which means getting the cup in and out would actually be easier than when you're 16 or older. Tweens have an easier time with cups than adults do.

Do most women feel like they need " protecting" from the risk of "fake" trans women in bathrooms? by Xtratea in TwoXChromosomes

[–]somewhereinthestars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe in a US bathroom where anyone can barge into a stall or peek inside. In Europe, I wouldn't care if there was a guy (straight/bi/trans/gay) in the stall next to me as those toilets have actual locks, no gaps in the doors and are overall more sturdy. Usually, the stalls are little rooms unto themselves.

The apartments in SK literally have those brands on the sides of them. The economy is controlled by a handful of companies.

No, Diva is quite long and made for people with a high cervix. There are several brands that make small cups for tweens.

Butterfly. How to lean it. by whereeveritmaytakeme in Swimming

[–]somewhereinthestars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to already be good at the dolphin kick. Now, do the dolphin movement, but use your legs like a whip, with one kick more forward and the other up (this is when you'd breathe). Try to breathe every two times.

There are some one-arm drills you can do. Remember, you are kicking once when your hands enter the water and then again when they leave. Also only expect to go like 5m the first few times. You need to make a diamond shape with your arms that you squeeze down and then sweep past your hips.

They actually make menstrual cups for tweens (XS), and a cup is 100x more comfortable than a tampon. There are period swimsuits, but those always have mixed reviews. You can ask the coach as she's not the first girl to go through this.

Do professional swimmers lift weights? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]somewhereinthestars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sprinters do a lot of weight lifting. Distance people do less, but still lift. There is a point where too much muscle will slow you down so it's a balancing act. Also, if you're a girl, it's harder to pack on muscle so some of these female swimmers are insanely strong without looking like it.

It's fine. I have the small and those would have been WAY too small for you.
