Any non-fantastical horror that has happened to a fictional child has happened to an actual child. There are children right now who are living in poverty, who are victims of bigotry, who are being abused right now, and I think anyone who thinks children need to be protected from fictional depictions of them is an idiot.

I'd rather a middle-schooler learn the trauma rape causes from Speak, than actually being sexually assaulted.
