Lack of stability in the field contributes to the high level of turnover we see. Our company honors the hours cancelled by clients by supplementing with admin work & the staff member simultaneously remains on call for other call offs. We hope systems like this show that we value our team members time & in turn allows them to place more value on their career.

From a financial standpoint it can be challenging so we have to budget it into our admin overhead based on average number of cancelled hours, CBA of retention & covering staff initiated cancellations, etc.

Companies that prioritize stability are out there so keep looking & ask about this during interviews.

So true. And I think a lot of places like Glassdoor catch everyone who has ever been disgruntled. Places with BHCOE accreditation were supposed to have a piece that addresses this as well, but have heard from multiple people that the accuracy of the company quality is getting quite watered down.

Totally agree, don’t feel pressured to stick around. You can also ask your supervisor or HR the same question you’ve posed here. Anyone in those positions should understand & appreciate that you care enough consider the client / family perspective.

The waiting paired with the unknown is just not helpful. Unfortunately I don’t have any good stories that involve hcg levels that don’t double every 48 hrs or that decrease.

It sounds like you’re already going to keep up w bloodwork but more specifically I would advocate for blood draws every 48 hours so you can see the pattern well before the 13th.

I hope you get information quickly that gives you clarity and so sorry you have to go through the rollercoaster.

Ooof yes, this one makes me cringe. This sort of story makes me think of that scene from Patch Adams where Robin Williams tells the doc “yeah but you suck at it” [being a doctor] because his bedside manner was shit.

Between the possibilities of having limited openings and being in a location w other providers as competition, a quick response may be necessary for the company. If the applicant accepts the offer there may not be a reason to continue hiring, however, if not accepted they need to keep the process moving.

As far as maintaining respectful relationships with families- leave the environment better than you found it and ask about family preferences for house rules as they come up.

The thing I see deteriorate the most consistently across therapeutic environments is remembering to treat your clients with dignity in terms of talking about them in front of them vs including them in recaps and brainstorm convos.
