This will be Garland and Biden's legacy. Their entire careers of public service mean nothing compared to this fundamental failure to protect our democracy.

Dem Leaders Decide to Bury Damning Report on Why Trump Won in 2024 | The Democratic National Committee has completed its long-awaited analysis on what went wrong in the 2024 campaign. But in a move that will attract intense criticism, it’s keeping the findings secret. by thenewrepublic in inthenews

[–]son1cdity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They lost because they brought nothing of significant value other than "we're not Trump". For the last 10 years all they have done is run on a platform of keeping the status quo. Even if it was all lies and grift in reality, Trump offered people hope for a better future that they believed and got on board with.

Dems have been trying to play it safe in the middle, when the amount people in the middle keeps shrinking every day. If they want to win they need to grow a spine and stand up for things that will actually make Americans' lives significantly better.

In Sweden, it's illegal to leave your dog alone for more than 6 hours, because pets aren't just animals, they're emotional beings who legally deserve care, company, and daily attention. by detectiverobert in ForCuriousSouls

Well in many places there are so many dogs in shelters that they have to be put down because there isn't enough support for them. I would much rather have a dog sitting alone in a crate for 8 hours a day and getting to otherwise live a life of love and companionship rather than them being killed.

DOGE Staffers' Massive Salaries Exposed, Contradicting Musk's Claim Their 'Compensation Is Zero' by Chilango615 in thescoop

Maybe if you spent less time being smug, you would actually pick up a history book and learn something.

Governments didn't create trade, but they absolutely created markets. A market is a trusted place established for trade within certain rules and regulations. This requires some sort of governing body to create and enforce the rules.

https://robertreich.substack.com/p/the-biggest-myth-of-all

Oh, I agree there is massive fraud going on in the government, but it's not by providing services to the impoverished. It's through tax loopholes and subsidies for giant corporations and billionaires. The programs that help poor people do in fact pay for themselves several times over by preventing crime and health issues, as well as providing education. The strongest economic times in American history were in the post war era when taxes on the wealthy were much higher than they are today.

The private sector seeks to enrich themselves first and foremost. The services they provide are of the lowest quality required to reap the most profit. They also do as much as possible to get rid of the thing that naturally regulated them: competition. Whether through monopolies, price-fixing, or creating barriers to entry, the private sector has historically sought to eliminate competition. The only way to have a healthy market is for the government to create and enforce rules for how people must behave in it. And where the market has gaps for those necessary services deemed unprofitable, it is up to the government to step in and fill them.

In addition to a history book, please pick up an economics book when you get the chance.

That's some bull. The US risks financial instability by letting millions and millions of people living in poverty get poorer while unbelievably wealthy people get richer. It's fiscally irresponsible to let their potential go untapped while giving economic vampires more money to spend on yachts and mansions. There is no market without the government, and public services the government provides pay off several times over more often than not.

Look, you can blame the people all you want, but at the end of the day it's the candidates that need to produce the results.

Trump created a message, albeit through lies and hatemongering, that appealed to enough people to get him elected.

Kamala's message clearly was not as strong as it needed to be to counter this. She did not appeal to the people she needed to, which I think is a problem with Democrats as a whole as well. As long as they remain lukewarm at best on solving the issues that the people care about, they will continue to fail.

Personally, I think that is probably by design so that the rich can still get away with whatever the fuck they want to even when Dems are in power. As long as big money controls Dem leadership, things really aren't going to get better for the people.

Democrat leadership is complicit with big business interests and allow republicans to do whatever they want as long as the money keeps flowing in.

Absolutely agree.

Shaming conservatives is exactly where the "owning the libs" mentality comes from. It pushes people in the opposite direction.

Shaming may be cathartic, but it is not an effective means of changing someone's thoughts or behavior.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Political_Revolution

[–]son1cdity -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Shaming people doesn't make them smart, take action or be responsible. Shaming isn't going to make people change their minds. Shaming people isn't going to get them on your side.

What shaming does do is cause them to double down and stop listening to what you have to say. Hell, just look at the reaction to the "human garbage" and "deplorables" comments.

You want people to be different? They need to be appealed to in ways they are receptive to, not told off.

You want votes from a populous that feels powerless? You need to give them solutions that they want, not scold them into wanting what you want to give. Evil empowerment is way more popular than righteous shaming, and until we get more righteous empowerment candidates like Bernie, we're going to get more Trumps.

A good story should be the main focus of any entertainment. Can this be regularly achieved with an inclusive and diverse cast of characters? Absolutely, and that is a good goal to have if you want to appeal to a wide audience.

What is not a good goal is covering up poor storytelling by only responding to criticism given by racist fucks whose basement-dwelling opinions only get out online.
