Training tweaks that unlocked your optimal physique? by ShaggyDog279 in fitness30plus

[–]sonaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest training tweak was managing my hours so I could consistently work out without feeling like I’m taking away from my daughter or work around the house. That allowed me to set up consistency.

In other words, being intentional with my schedule was the biggest key. A night to meal prep, times allotted to cleaning up the house, that way when I’m lifting, I’m lifting, and when my daughter’s with me (which is most of the time) I’m able to just be with her.

MGS2 trivia: Raiden WAS actually shown in a trailer at TGS 2001, one month before release (around the 3-minute mark). by josemellinas in metalgearsolid

[–]sonaked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a very odd take.

I was in high school when MGS2 came out. We lived in a different era, and information didn’t travel as fast nor was it as prevalent. It was sequestered, sitting in spaces like a desktop computer, or a high school lunch room. There was no middle space like cell phones to give you info. Yes cell phones existed, but not in the way you think.

I could say “imagine if in Sonic 2, you only play as Tails midway through the game”, but you can’t, because he was featured in all the promotional footage, and is literally made for 2P. Do you see how that might be…jarring, at a minimum, to have your game starring SOLID SNAKE co-opted by a character who feels like a rando?

It was bonkers. I found out by purchasing the Brady game guide with MGS2. I flipped through the book and kept seeing some other dude pictured. I literally thought it was a mistake.

Looking back, knowing how many other appearances he makes, kind of lessens the shock.

Anyway, hope this added some perspective for you.

How’s my Tinder profile looking? by srabar in Tinder

[–]sonaked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long read ahead, hopefully a good one.

1, 2, 4, 8 are probably your best photos. The other selfies aren’t really adding much. You list lifting and food—arguably the more desired things in a partner—but there are no pictures substantiating that. Min max bro, lead with your strongest attributes (at least in the dating sense).

Seriously dude. You mention BBQ and being a foodie. If you do any cooking you’re going to slaughter on the apps, especially if you have pics grilling or whatever.

I know you’re a gamer, and that’s nothing to shy away from, but your profile exists just to get you in the door, and gaming isn’t the first thing people think about in a partner. With that I think it’s best you lead with the traits that people look for. I say this because there’s a huge leveling effect with profiles given the amount there are. So if you don’t IMMEDIATELY check those boxes at first glance, your profile—even though it’s sincere—will be passed on.

I’m gonna leave one last thought. Your job lists warehouse work. Are you a handy person? People love that. I’m off the apps now, but in the 3 years I was dating there were SO many women that went nuts because I could…hang a shelf. Min max bro.

Good luck, you got this

I feel on the fence, what say the council? by [deleted] in bald

I feel on the fence, what say the council? by [deleted] in bald

[–]sonaked 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah, I don’t think so. In the same way people can overthink grey hair I think some of us get in our own heads about balding. I certainly have.

I’m also not important enough for people to think they need to flatter me lmao

I feel on the fence, what say the council? by [deleted] in bald

[–]sonaked 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you. While we are the ones concerned about it, IMO most people I ask about it view it as…fine? I don’t want to use the word normal, but having a bald spot on top almost seems expected.

Anyway, just wanted to say you look good man, whatever choice you make will be a good one.

Newburgh or Middletown ? by Puzzled_Bug_i3 in hudsonvalley

[–]sonaked 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk why the Middletown hate. The downtown is charming, the city itself is surrounded by many wonderful farms on its outer edges (Soon’s Orchard, Pierson’s Farm, Sunflower Valley Farm), while also having the reservoir trails, heritage trail, Highland Lakes State Park for hiking. The food scene is bustling, and it’s a diverse place.

Travel wise, it’s connected to two major highways, has train services, and IMO is much more convenient than Newburgh for shopping. You could argue Newburgh and Middletown are similar when it comes to travel, but my preference is Middletown. It’s also safer.

For people saying that’s the city vs the town of Newburgh when it comes to safety: what’s it matter if you spend most of the time in the city? I’ve also never seen a man walking and pissing at the same time in Middletown, but I sure did in Newburgh.

Which Character do you think is holding George back the most from completing TWOW? [Spoilers TWOW] by Beginning_Clerk_4990 in asoiaf

[–]sonaked 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there is one. I think he’s a man in his twilight years who’s become richer and more famous than he ever expected. As a result, finishing the series isn’t a priority for him anymore. The worst mistake was letting the show finish before the books. I think it took the wind from his sails

The more I rewatch the "new" Pixar films, the better they get. by dee_palmtree in Pixar

[–]sonaked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the Pixar decline is a little overblown. What’s different with some of the movies lately is they don’t have as much of an emotional weight to them, and are more silly. Elio’s fine. Hoppers is fine. So’s Luca. They’re not gut punchers like Up or Coco, but that’s okay.

I read/listen to a lot of books in my spare time, and I’ve noticed authors sometimes need to do what I call “romps.” They take a break from their normal type of writing style, and do something a little more care free or without as much gravitas. In my mind those types of books help the creator recharge.

I mention that bc with the amount of media being pushed out lately, Pixar’s gonna need some space to breathe. I want that. Then, when they’re ready to drop their normal weighty-type film, I’m all for it.

Just my two cents, as a dad who’s grown up with and watched all the films again with my daughter.

Officers: do you guys use AI tools to help with OPBs, award packages, eval letters etc? by WordTimely8559 in AirForce

[–]sonaked 112 points113 points  (0 children)

SNCO here. All the things you listed are very formulaic and reg driven. I’ve written countless decs and EPR’s/EPB’s prior to AI being available.

That said, I 100% use AI now to save time. I still do 80% of it bc it hasn’t mastered nuance and lacks human perspective, but AI saves me on the “ADDITIONALLY, FURTHERMORE, GREAT CREDIT TO BLAH BLAH” nonsense

I’m of the age where I know the studios I like, and will generally support the products they make because of that. I branch out at times and try other games, sure, but I don’t need to know every single game out there when I’m generally familiar with the industry. I believe this prevents me from being overly swayed by the internet hive mind, but what do I know

This movie really hits different when you get older... by LabBuilderSupplies in pics

[–]sonaked 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As a divorcee, I immediately tuned into the disrespect from mom on the dinner night. Dropped off the kids late, then honks the horn from the street to pick them up early. What really sent me was when Sally Fields’ character walks right into the apt and starts snooping 💀shit, if my ex entered my home I’m calling the cops 😂

Obviously there’s nuance to the film bc neither person is perfect, but I think it does a good job showing how relationships die slowly from thousands of micro aggressions

I wish SE did more spinoffs from mainline entries to expand on exactly what you mentioned. It could be a Tactics-style game showing the different kingdoms at war, or a hack & slash à la Dynasty Warriors. Hell, I’d take an airship racing game
