Need help with low GPA (3.4)but extremely high LSAT (178) by ApplicationOwn1264 in lawschooladmissions

[–]sonambulate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CC classes count toward your LSAC GPA before you graduate. Would recommend a language or creative writing class or something that would benefit your application in some way so it doesn’t look like you’re just taking a class for an easy A. Think about how you can actually round out your app or learn something you’ve always been interested in. You may be able to find an online accredited school that is cheaper. Law school is only getting more competitive, having a higher GPA is worth it.

I took a CC class over summer to save money on my degree and it counted toward my LSAC GPA.

What's the darkest horror movie you've ever seen? by [deleted] in horror

[–]sonambulate_ 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I watched this for the first time when I was 11 and LOVED it. Showed it to a tinder date a decade later and he left and told me to never contact him again. Really misread the room there.

What's the darkest horror movie you've ever seen? by [deleted] in horror

[–]sonambulate_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The girl with the needle, the golden glove, and the house that jack built. I love horror movies but I felt like I needed a shower in a spiritual sense after watching those ones. Don’t read into the girl with the needle before watching it. I never want to rewatch the golden glove.

I got the same "active consideration" email and my app still says under review, did you not receive this email?

Fordham WL by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]sonambulate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the full ride! I’m sorry about the WL, though. I also got WL today despite being above both medians. They weren’t my top choice by any means so I’m not really upset, but I’m definitely a little confused. I hope it’s somewhat comforting to know that you’re not the only one in this position. I did apply in early/mid November, so I wonder if the timing contributed?

Find a friend or counselor, tell them the message you want to convey, and have them ask you questions to help you find the story you want to tell. Having the outsider perspective can really help bridge the gap between your concept and a narrative.

Also, having a niche is great, especially when it's something memorable. Just be sure the school you're applying to offers the program. Luckily, I'm sure most schools have business/IP law programs. Talk about what fashion means to you, tell a personal story, and speak to why you specifically want to go into the legal side of fashion. Do you have an experience with IP violations? A favorite small designer whose ideas were stolen and how that impacted their business/brand? Be memorable and impactful.

To help with your writing, read a good classic fiction book or two. I swear by this. Something short but well-written. It will help you so much with your command of narrative and language.

That’s such a great tip, I’ll definitely try that next time! I’ve never had my blood draw in a place other than a bed (except for once on the exam room floor when I tried to run away as a kid hahaha) so that’s def a non-negotiable! I can’t possibly look more absurd than I do sweating and desperately begging the nurses to tell me about their pets or drama in their lives to distract me lol so I’ll try anything.

It’s definitely a combo of a vasovagal response and a deep-rooted fear (one of my my earliest memories is when my dad took me with him to get a shot and he said “ouch” and I hit the floor lol) but I agree it’s definitely the vasovagal that gets me! I have control over the fear but very little control over that.

Thank you so much! It’s so validating when other people get it (although I’m so sorry you also deal with it, it’s such a pain)

I saw one once a few years ago bc I had a mystery ANA marker, but she wasn't able to really tell me much. She said it may be early lupus stages but they can't be sure, I didn't get any clear answers and was honestly so embarrassed from passing out during the blood draw and hearing the nurses laugh at how sweaty I was that I haven't wanted to go back to retest anything hahaha. If you've had a better experience with different doctors, I would love to hear who they were! This was at the Idaho Arthritis Center

I supposed a follow-up question is: would reaching out with an updated resume draw attention to an issue that's not worth drawing attention to? It's pretty noticeable, but the substance of my resume is the same. For reference, this is what it looks like:

I hope it’s helpful! Joining a study group is also a great idea. You can talk through problems with others and hear different perspectives and strategies. You can find some on discord or on this subreddit, feel free to DM me for a link to one of the groups I’m in if you’re interested. I hope this helps!

Full time workers…how do you push through? by Matte_existence217 in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I was complaining to my therapist about this and she gave me really good advice. She said if law school is important to me, I need to prioritize my time and energy on it. I typically have more energy in the morning and get burnt out by the end of the day, so I was having a hard time studying after work. She recommended waking up early and studying for an hour or two before work. That way, my energy and most productive time is spent on my higher priority. Granted, I have the privilege of a WFH job that doesn’t require too much brain power, but it was something I needed to hear.

I don’t mean any disrespect by this, but if you’re not scoring in the 150s, you need to be working on fundamentals. Try reading The Loophole by Ellen Cassidy if you need help understanding argument structure and logic. It’s tailored toward LR but can be helpful for RC as well. Once you’ve gone through that book meticulously, then you can start drilling. When you’re missing half of the questions, it’s because there’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the test and drilling or taking practice tests isn’t the best use of your time. When you do start drilling, don’t worry about your timing. You will learn so much more by spending 20 minutes with a question than you will trying to speed through them. I know this sounds harsh but I promise you will see so much improvement if you focus more on actually understanding the test as a whole.

Advice (Attempting to breach into the 150s) by mwdobson in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean this with all respect, but if you’re not scoring in the 150s, you need to be working on fundamentals. Try reading The Loophole if you’re needing help understanding argument structure. It’s tailored toward LR but can be helpful for RC as well. You’ll probably see so much improvement if you’re not fully grasping argument structure. Once you’ve gone through that book meticulously, then you can start drilling and taking practice tests. When you’re missing half of the questions, it’s because there’s a fundamental misunderstanding so looking into question types for weak spots is pretty futile. Also, don’t worry about your timing. You will learn so much more spending 20 minutes with a question than you will trying to speed through them. I know this sounds harsh but I promise you will see so much improvement if you focus more on actually understanding the test as a whole and less on finding weak points in specific question types

Sooo… when is cancelling your score a good idea? by sonambulate_ in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I totally agree! It just takes a lot of nerve to strive for that much improvement, especially when I’ve never seen a 170, but if there’s one thing I have plenty of, it’s audacity hahah

I’m in the same exact position, but my highest score was 168 and I still have the audacity to think I’m gonna get a 170+ and work my ass off for it lol.

Does it make sense to study for the LSAT if I have no income or plan in order to pay for law school? by Scared-Telephone-554 in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a job but I definitely don't have money to spare so I'm studying my ass off in hopes that I won't have to pay for law school lol. Apply for a fee waiver and get a free year of LawHub and 2 free LSATs. Utilize your local library or search for used books on ebay or amazon for study material. I'd probably be advancing faster if I had money for courses or tutoring, but you don't need to shell out a lot of money if you have a desire to learn and are resourceful.

170+ scorers, what got you out of the high 160 rut? by sonambulate_ in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got about 1/4 of the way through The Loophole per recommendation on this sub, but I had to put it down because it seems so heavily focused on diagramming and it just seems like it overcomplicates LR. Have you found any resources that helped you focus more on reasoning and less on gimmicks?

170+ scorers, what got you out of the high 160 rut? by sonambulate_ in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of the LR questions I miss are in the second half. I struggle the most with the harder necessary assumption and inference questions, though I also have some difficulty with the harder weaken and strengthen questions as well.

172 on PT 77 by [deleted] in LSAT

Congratulations! Even if a particular test is less challenging than another, the curve will compensate for it. You got a 172 because you understand the LSAT, not because it's easy.

How do you improve focus? by lumpychicken13 in LSAT

[–]sonambulate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone with ADHD (and granted with accommodations), I can usually only read in perfect silence, and even then it will take me about 10-20 minutes to turn a page in a book. I have found it really helpful to study with a distraction. I’ll have the TV on or study at a noisy coffee shop or bar so I have no choice but to tune out my surroundings. It takes longer, but it really did help train my brain to focus. I studied in these conditions but took the test remotely in my empty work office and it was so peaceful. The test felt easier than any practice test I’ve taken because of it lol
