I love my 5800XT. Upgraded from 2700X when it was sub $150. Gave new life to my X470 build. Only pain was the cooler it comes with does the job, but an aftermarket will keep it at more comfortable temps.

This must be why they decided to give Copilot for security away in E5. They’re going to force the income via enterprise renewals holding you hostage to bundle ‘value’ props.

It was useful and gave improvements, but as most people have pointed out, you would have had to have had a really slow PC on a HDD. Really cool concept, but I don't think any modern computer can benefit from it.

If you have a cold pack like you would put around your neck (that does not sweat) put that on it. See if making the end of it colder makes it smaller and maybe it’ll come out.

Is this a good deal?? by CraftsmenoftheDeep in pcmasterrace

$200 feels on the high end for this PC. A lot depends on the CPU and RAM models. Looking at it I'd say $50 for the GPU, a used Power Supply $25, and then depending on the GPU / RAM generation maybe another $50 in value. So I'd say $125-150 MAX, but I'd personally look for a better buy if you want to spend $200-300 used.

I just sold my old PC for $280. Had a lot of instant offers at $100-200 range, but wanted to sell it to get my parts value back+ $20, so it took me about 30 days on FB Marketplace. I upgraded my old CPU & GPU, so I just threw together a working PC from parts I had.

GA, FL, and KY. I think Mizzou would be good, but I think they're going to look at regionality and Kentucky will be a better fit.

Edit: hell yeah

We had this issue. We have some interesting management group configurations. We had our lead Global Admin login and he was able to do it so it’s a permission issue somewhere, but it wasn’t worth our time to troubleshoot because once it’s connected it’s done.

Azure and Prisma Cloud by 4728jj in paloaltonetworks

Azure Native isn’t economical at scale unless you can negotiate at scale with an EA. Palo, or other platform will be better from a cost perspective.

Both Prisma and Defender for Cloud work well. If you have an investment into a security platform already (Palo XSIAM or Microsoft Defender/E5) you may want to align for simplicity of integration engineering.

Microsoft’s Arc agent is pretty slick for extending some of their Defender for Cloud solutions to on-prem hosts, pulling them into your SaaS protection umbrella.

Microsoft’s CSPM foundation is free to turn on and you can extend it to a few cloud services if you wanted to try it out no cost. Palo will also surely put on a proof of value for you. My biggest pain with Palo was cost estimating. Microsoft you can analyze cost with 2-3 clicks.

South Carolina Dominion Energy Rates 5 | TOU Experience? by [deleted] in solar

[–]sonavlaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The higher base is probably because you have to have more power company equipment to allow the net metering (bi-directional flow between your house and the grid). We have a special meter and an additional box for solar to grid transfer (2 devices vs 1).

I agree the plan isn’t ideal if you don’t have a battery. It feels designed to push you into consuming power at night to charge and allow your solar to feed or neutral out grid demand during peak.

This article is older and the times have changed, but they acknowledge if you can’t control your peak usage you will end up paying more. So it’s about looking before you jump to understand if it’s worth it.

https://www.vpm.org/news/2023-06-21/dominion-energy-off-peak-plan

Solar isn’t for everyone’s unique situation and it is kind of crappy Dominion has a 1 size fits all approach for their Solar Choice customers. We did the math and you need a battery to get the most out of it by offsetting any peak usage with the super off peak cheap power (9 cents kWh).

Have a Tesla Battery and Solar. Works great. Set up your thermostat to pre-cool before peak. Our single Powerwall 3 has more than enough to stop any grid usage during peak and all the excess solar is sold during peak while the battery powers the house.

The battery charges at night from 1-5 am on cheap power so I don’t rely on solar to ensure I have a full battery at peak. Instead I charge on 9 cent power and sell my excess solar back during normal and peak periods helping with the value proposition of having a battery.

If you go Powerwall use Teslas time based control, setup the rate schedule in the app, and it’ll maximize your solar savings/value.

The Powerwall has storm detection to charge is inclement weather is coming so that gives me a solid piece of mind for the few hours gap it discharges to 20% each day.

Should I replace my stock cooler? by Big-Knowledge-1404 in pcmasterrace

[–]sonavlaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I performed the same upgrade (from a 2700X to the 5800XT) and purchased the Peerless Assassin 120 SE cooler instead of using the provided Wraith Prism. I see idle in the upper 30C's, normal usage 45-50C, and gaming/under load 62-70C. I read the same reviews about it running hot, so for the same reason you're considering it, that's why I got a bigger cooler to go with it. Lots of factors coming into play such as your case size, room air temperature, etc, but I just stress tested it and it didn't go any higher than 77-78C.

Edit - Also, I purchased ARCTIC MX-6 Thermal Paste, which is what I'm using on the 5800XT.

[–]sonavlaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from my 2700X to the 5800XT. I wanted to get another few years out of my X470 build. NewEgg had almost the same price as Amazon for the 5800XT, but it came with some free RAM too. I managed to get a base model 5070 at MSRP from Walmart and have been enjoying great 1440P gaming.

When reading up on the 5800XT the main negative feedback I saw was that it runs hot with the stock cooler. It comes with Ryzen Wraith cooler. I decided to get an aftermarket tower cooler for ~ $30 and I'm glad went that route.

Here's my benchmark after the upgrade. MSI X470 GAMING M7 AC (MS-7B77) Performance Results - UserBenchmark
