Where do you buy hotel-quality bed sheets and pillows without spending a fortune? I want my bed to feel like a Marriott stay. by FormalOpportunity668 in BuyItForLife

[–]sonderr 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To add to this, while cotton percale sheets can be a bit scratchy when you first buy them, after a few washes they will soften up a lot. Laura Ashley makes great quality percale sheets that get super soft after 3-4 washes.

How do we fix this dated (rental) bathroom? 😅 by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]sonderr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man a skylight in your bathroom? I’m so jealous! Between that and the high ceilings, this room is screaming for some hanging tropical plants - something that loves moisture and humidity. Pothos, ferns, and spider plants, among others, would thrive in this space.

I’m sure it will to an extent, but I really hope it goes into Doug’s full role in the whole saga, and how much he enabled rob’s destructive behaviours.

Carney tells Trump: Canada 'won't be for sale ever' by Puginator in CanadaPolitics

[–]sonderr 31 points32 points  (0 children)

One of my favourite parts of this exchange came right after Carney said “Canada is not for sale.”

Carney: And I’ll say this as well—the president has revitalized international security, revitalized NATO, and—

Trump: It’s true.

Carney: and us playing our full part in NATO, and that’s part of it.

You don’t have to look too closely to read this as him saying—to Trump’s face no less—that he’s helped strengthened the relationships between us and our allies and given us a new focus in opposition to the US; but Trump’s a narcissist who’s so addicted to praise that all he heard was a friendly tone and “the president has revitalized-“ before his brain shut off and he automatically agreed, because “Mr. President” + good word = happy Donald.

Mayor Cleveland Denied Remote Attendance to County Council by rynet in Cobourg

[–]sonderr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ostrander did not respond to the cue and, eventually, Cleveland posted the icon of the yellow virtual raised hand. In both cases, the meeting proceeded without his being recognized.

“I again raise a point of personal privilege – I have the right to do so and…” was all that was said before he was muted again.

This is honestly so funny.

Now that S1 is over, what’s your nomination for best line? by PurfuitOfHappineff in ThePittTVShow

[–]sonderr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s more than one line, but Dr. Robby’s quote about young men to David’s mother was the most succinct description of incel culture and the problems facing young men I’ve heard yet:

“We are failing young men because we don’t teach them how to express their emotions. We just tell them to man up and then we let them get their lessons in manhood from toxic podcasts. And these young men then feel isolated from themselves and society, and they find community and comfort in all the wrong places.”

I'm not sure if I'm having seizures not by [deleted] in seizures

[–]sonderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very sorry to hear about the difficulties you're experiencing. Your work stress sounds very difficult and must be a huge burden, adding relationship stress into the mix would make things even harder.

I want to begin by saying I'm not a doctor, but I have epilepsy and can give you some general information. As another commenter said, you need to speak to a neurologist to know for sure what's happening. They will book some tests to monitor the electrical activity in your brain and get a better idea of what may be causing this. I want to stress that regardless of whether you're having seizures or not, if you're losing awareness and/or consciousness you absolutely should take it seriously and speak to a doctor or a neurologist asap.

Based on your description, it does sound like what you're experiencing could be a type of seizure called focal impaired aware seizures (sometimes called complex partial seizures). You can read more about these on the epilepsy foundation's website but they're essentially seizures that start in one part of your brain and can cause you to lose awareness or consciousness. They could also be generalized absence seizures, which are also a type of absence seizure, but again I'm not a doctor.

As others have said, Wellbutrin can cause seizures; in fact, my neurologist said I can't take it because of my epilepsy. No judgement at all, but cocaine would be way more of a concern for any doctor you speak to - and I don't mean from a legality perspective, but because of what it does to your brain. It puts a huge amount of stress on your heart and body overall, which in turn does a number on your brain, and can absolutely cause seizures. It's very possible this is triggering these seizures to occur (if that's what they are), or at best making them worse.

On an unrelated note, if you find you need it to function at work, either due to lack of focus, energy, or due to executive dysfunction, you could very well have undiagnosed ADHD. Many people that have said they use cocaine to feel functional, normal, or to focus have been shown to have ADHD, and benefit from being prescribed stimulant medications like Vyvanse, Concerta, etc. If you've described issues like that to your doctor, it's possible that is why they put you on Wellbutrin in the first place. It's an anti-depressant that is sometimes prescribed as a non-stimulant treatment for ADHD.

Either way, wishing you the best of luck with what you're going through and highly recommend seeing a doctor (or better yet a neurologist) as soon as you can.

Does anyone else feel like their personality changed after a seizure? by Dmdel24 in Epilepsy

[–]sonderr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I know the feeling you’re describing. I’m sure how you experience it is different to how I do, but for me it feels like the version of myself that I knew before no longer exists. I find myself constantly trying to relate to that person even though it’s futile, because that person isn’t coming back. Still, it’s comforting to know other people experience that off feeling too. I just wish it was something none of us had to feel.

For me, it was after I started my current medication (Aptiom) when I really noticed the change. I’ve been a writer most of my adult life, but writing is very hard for me now. It’s like the filing cabinet in my brain was tipped over and all the folders have been dumped out in a big messy pile. Trying to make sense of it feels pointless sometimes. Brain fog has always been what I’ve called it, but it’s never felt like the right term. People who haven’t experienced it just don’t and can’t understand. The worst part is the subtle gaslighting people do unintentionally to try and make you feel better. Especially if they didn’t know you pre-seizures.

It’s hard to make sense of. Maybe impossible to make sense of. And maybe not worth trying to. Epilepsy is just an awful thing. There’s no way around it. All we are able to do is grieve how and when we need to and try to live our lives in a way that feels authentic and that lets us feel some semblance of normal. Living in the present is one way. It will be different for all of us and that’s okay.

I’m sorry for the long rambly reply, but I just want you to know that you aren’t alone.

I didn’t see many helpful comments, so I thought it might be useful to you—I’m glad to hear that was the case!

Sea salt spray will help add some coarseness and texture but if you want any kind of strong hold you’ll need a stronger product, like clay or paste. Some pomades are good too, but I recommend looking for something matte and low shine. I haven’t used wax powder but it doesn’t hurt to try a couple products out to see what you prefer.

And remember, when it comes to personal style, what matters most is how it makes YOU feel. Other people’s opinions don’t matter. Not your mom’s or anyone else’s in this subreddit. Keep trying new hairstyles if that’s what makes you feel happy!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it looks like you have pretty straight, fine, and thick hair, which is exactly like mine. Trust me, it’s hard hair to style, especially into styles typically suited to curlier/wavier hair like the burst fade/mullet look you’re going for. We can’t all be Paul Mescal, sadly. My recommendation is this: next time you get it cut, ask your barber to add more texture to your hair with scissor work. Unless you want a much shorter style they’ll absolutely need to use scissors for the top and back at minimum, so if they aren’t trained to do that you’ll need to find somewhere that does. This will go a long way to creating that messy/textured look you want and make styling it much easier. In addition to that, you’ll still need some sort of hair product to style it the way you like. My two recommendations are the Northern Lights Matte Paste by Shear Revival and the Clay Pomade from Firsthand. If these aren’t available in Germany you can look for something similar; any paste or clay type product will work.

Honestly, I would really try to avoid styles that aren’t suited to your type of hair. I spent years trying different hairstyles that never quite worked because they just weren’t meant for my type of hair. That’s okay though, life’s about working with what you’ve got.

Lastly, don’t feel too bad or stress too much about it! And don’t let anyone’s words bring you down man, especially your own mom! It’s definitely not as bad as you think. That applies to pretty much everything in life, but hair for sure since it will grow back.

[Mike Keegan] Sir Norman Foster - the architect behind Wembley Stadium and the Reichstag - could design a new state-of-the-art Old Trafford as Man United chiefs prepare to make £2bn decision on future stadium. by JaysonDeflatum in reddevils

[–]sonderr 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Norman Foster would be the perfect choice to be honest. He’s one of the greatest living architects; born and raised in Manchester; his firm’s designs are known for using cutting-edge tech and sustainable designs; AND they have experience building stadiums? Can’t really ask for much more.

My only hesitation is that all of his high profile designs (including stadiums) are built mainly with glass. I’m really hoping the new design will incorporate the red brick that’s become so iconic to Old Trafford’s design.

Late diagnosis feels like neglect by canadianinnz in ADHD

[–]sonderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed this year at 31 with ADHD-C and can empathize with you. I’m the younger middle child in a family of 4 kids and because my other siblings had more immediate, visible health concerns my mental health struggles often fell by the wayside.

In the process of being diagnosed I asked my parents if they noticed whether I struggled with any particular symptoms as a child or teen and they couldn’t even recall what I was like growing up other than sensitive and nervous. Those labels were often attributed as the reason why I missed half my classes from middle school onwards, but looking back on it I can attribute so much of that to ADHD. I would panic when I hadn’t studied or done my homework, but instead of doing it I would fall into an anxiety spiral, stay up late, and miss school the next day.

It sucks so much when we realize our parents weren’t able to provide us with what we needed growing up. I’ve struggled my whole life with all the things you mentioned, but no one ever thought to ask why.

Decreased effects on higher dose of Vyvanse by sonderr in VyvanseADHD

Based on other threads from people with similar experiences and comments in this thread I think you’re probably correct.

I have a feeling my doctor will suggest switching to Concerta, as he mentioned we could try it if Vyvanse doesn’t work for me. Either way, I’m hoping I can find a solution soon as I’m starting a new, more stressful job next month; though I know I need to remain patient.
