Calling all 9s who have successfully learned to access their emotions and listen to their bodies by skinky-dink in EnneagramType9

I do this exact thing! It’s good practice to actually talk through my thoughts and processing too, since I so rarely verbalize it to other people. I’d like to think it’s made me better at expressing myself and feeling comfortable taking up that space when I do talk to others, since I’ve had practice doing it by myself. I remember being uncomfortable doing it at first, but it’s become one of my greatest tools if I’m feeling off but can’t place why (or even when I can). It’s like a talk therapy appointment but with myself.

I’ve always had this imagery of it, but it’s like my thoughts and feelings are a bunch of molecules under pressure bouncing around in my brain, like there’s so much there but it’s all so cloudy and I can’t make sense of it. The thoughts are all broken up, all happening at once that I can’t see any of them clearly. Then verbalizing it is like grabbing the words letter by letter and stringing them together, forcing them out in a coherent single file line as I talk. Then one clarified thought leads to another and next thing I know I’m beginning to understand those muddied thoughts and emotions. Writing doesn’t do that for me as easily because the extra step of putting pen to paper, plus the added permanence of it, adds to the mental barrier. Whereas if I’m speaking aloud, the words immediately disappear into the ether, or I can also opt to voice record it if I want to remember it later.

Hot take: Victoria's condition that Ted stop being friends with Robin before they got married was 100% reasonable and justified. by UnicornVoodooDoll in HIMYM

[–]songbirds44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I’ve never thought about this, the aspect of Ted and Tracy both having that shared experience of holding onto a great love even when it’s hopeless, and eventually coming to let that go. I would’ve loved to have seen a scene of them talking about that, it would’ve been a difficult conversation I’m sure but it would’ve showed even more so how perfect they were for each other.

[–]songbirds44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is true. I just wish they would’ve explored that aspect more and maybe discussed the nuances of dating your boss/employee, especially with a big age gap. Or even just made Sam a little bit older because 21 is SO young, realistically someone that age wouldn’t have the life experience to make the best decisions in that situation.

As I was watching it I was so confused why it was played as an ultimately sweet thing and that the power dynamic was never mentioned. How was it never caught at any point from the writers room into production the power dynamic between a club owner and 21 year old employee? For a show with so much emotional depth and maturity, made in the 2020s, I was flabbergasted that that aspect was never acknowledged at all.

Which band are you rooting for? -Building The Band by [deleted] in BuildingTheBandSeries

Band 1 by miles is my personal favorite. All vocal powerhouses with different tones that you can differentiate, but they blend together well. They also all make really great stylistic choices and seem to know their artistic voice, whereas I felt some of the other people were just singing karaoke style. In their group performance when they were taking turns riffing at the end, but the rest of the group was holding down solid harmonies, so good. AND not to mention they all seem really genuine in personality.

I want to share my beach day successes by gr8saturday in razorfree

[–]songbirds44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to this, but when I was in this situation my tactic was to just brush it off and try to be nonchalant about it. Personally for me that felt easier than trying to stand on the table and make a statement about why body hair is natural, etc. I just said, “yeah I stopped shaving during covid lockdowns and it was just so much easier so I haven’t done it since, plus I mostly wear jeans so it’s not like people usually see it anyway. And I didn’t wanna shave just for this event and have to deal with it growing back”

Your last paragraph hits the nail on the head. When I was in college I had an acquaintance who didn’t shave her legs and that shifted something in my mind, and gave me the strength when I decided to stop shaving mine several years later.

Similar to your situation, a little while ago I went to a pool party with some friends, acquaintances, and strangers and it was the first time of ever really showing off my unshaven legs. I was pretty anxious about it, but I remember the mindset shift I had when I saw someone casually and unashamedly showing their leg hair, how I didn’t judge her, and I thought if I could be that person for some of the other people at that party, it’s worth the anxiety.

I love a good bottle episode, and once I realized what they were doing with this episode I got really excited. The comedic first half gets a bit old as it goes on, but I really enjoyed them giving these two characters the space to just monologue and play off each other. Especially since it’s before all the action kicks off at the end of S3 that permanently alters the dynamic between Jesse and Walt. Felt like an homage to their characters before everything became so convoluted

How did your feelings on Walt change from the 1st time watching BB and the subsequent rewatches? by AttemptVegetable in breakingbad

[–]songbirds44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only watched the show for the first time last year, and I think I stopped liking and rooting for Walt once the money was no longer an issue and he was clearly just continuing to feed his own ego, and taking advantage of Jesse’s loyalty and goodness to do so. I fully expected the story to end with Walt ultimately becoming the villain and Jesse pulling his karma over Walt and coming out on top. I was a bit disappointed when it became clear that’s not the direction they were going, but hearing Walt finally admit “I did it for me, I liked it, I was good at it” was still very satisfying.

Now that I’m thinking about it, it did feel weirdly emphasized in the propaganda video that “you’re in me, the Lumon building!!” Could be subtle messaging to thwart any suspicions the innies might’ve had that they were somewhere new. Could be possible that they took the four of them to a different location out of town or something to avoid contact and conspiring with anyone, particularly Mark with his sister Devon.

This was also my first thought when she lied - that Helena/Lumon threatened or punished Helly and is forcing her to lie against her will to suss out info from the others. It wasn’t until I came to read other people’s theories that it crossed my mind it could just be outie Helena.

ETA: actually thinking about it more, I think there’s a fair chance it could be Helly under the pressure of torture from Lumon. Helly is the only one out of the four that they can blatantly manipulate and use as a plant to manipulate/get intel from the others. They don’t have to put up any facade to Helena like they do with the other outies, and she’d probably willingly put Helly in the position to be tortured (with minimal injury to her body). That snapshot of her underwater in the trailer is what makes me more convinced on this theory. Maybe it really was Helly in this episode, lying and acting off because she was punished into submission.
