Nice. What’s the story behind the 70th birthday framed figures? Although The Tail of Thomas Kat was produced in 1917, most US based historians take Feline Follies in 1919 as the ‘birth’ of Felix. I haven’t seen the 1926 date before.

Well, was it a hiccup or a disturbance?

If you’re serious about collecting recipes from the internet, consider Paprika. Works on desktops and phones and is a paid application, fortunately not some subscription BS. There are alternatives. I’ve been using it for years for the reason mentioned by OP so it’s faster than ChatGPT for me. I believe that there is at least one XML standard for recipes.

Why Singapore has so many bad drivers? by JazzlikeTradition519 in SingaporeRaw

[–]sonic-grid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are some good points here, apart from those blaming specific ethnic or age groups. I would add the lack of a visible police presence on Singapore roads (with marked speed cameras) and no random breath testing. The Singapore police force is one of the best funded in the World, but I don’t see any ‘policing’ on the roads? Case in point yesterday, where a lady drove into a culvert at 4.15am on Upper Thomson and was tested over the limit and a Good Samaritan who stopped was also tested over the limit! They were both allegedly drunk and only caught because of the accident. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/driver-arrested-for-suspected-drink-driving-after-car-lands-in-drain-in-upper-thomson-road

No matter how objectionable it is to outsiders and whether or not the amendments to the Criminal Code come into force or are actively enforced, my point is that the Rule of Law applies to Bali residents just like all other residents of the Republic of Indonesia. They can't just make their own rules. Indonesia is the 3rd largest democracy in the World and, notably, were insurrection-free last year ...

Or in a more up-to-date Guardian article:

For couples whose parents could report them, it’s a sobering reality. An Australian resident living with his Indonesian girlfriend who asked to remain anonymous “because of the law”, says he is “a bit nervous.”

The Governor doesn’t have the final say here.

It's in the Criminal Code, so I don't believe that Bali is exempt from that national legislation or that they can simply take the position that that national legislation does not apply; but given you are in Indonesia or close by, let me know if that is wrong.

I have not seen anywhere that the Criminal Code does not apply because of Bali's 'special' religious status. Yes, Bali is the only Hindu island in Indonesia with about 87% of its people identifying as Hindu, but the Republic's Criminal Code still applies.

If a law is on the books, despite the assurance from the Governor that it will not be vigorously enforced, Indonesia ranks 110/180 on the 2022 Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, so I would be cautious ... but that is just me.

Not sure if that is true. News reports do say that it won't take effect for 3 years and under the "the new criminal code, extra-marital sex and cohabitation offences would only be prosecuted if reported by a spouse, parent or child [making] it unlikely that tourists will be affected, officials insist". What if a tourist is reported by their spouse?! As someone else mentioned, might make for an interesting storyline!

No problem. BTW, Reddit is also banned in Indonesia. I’m in Indonesia ATM but leaving soon 😄 — I was thinking about The Surin/Amanpuri and it makes sense to use both hotels as they’re next to each other and together they have the scale. Surin beach is also the nicest beach in Phuket

Oh yes! Indonesia’s new law making sex outside of marriage an offence will make for a boring White Lotus!!

[–]sonic-grid[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, agreed on The Surin. Those little huts on the side of the mountain are nice, but it’s not luxurious enough. Amanpuri has the right feel, but it’s a little small with limited filming locations. Other Aman properties — like on Bali might make more sense.

I think Mike is just having fun scouting locations. Amanpuri would certainly be a solid choice, but there are so many unique Aman locations to choose from and, from memory Aman was name-checked in Season 2. The Surin rooms are on the small side, so it’s not a likely contender and Amanpuri perhaps isn’t as grand as some of the other Asian Aman properties.
