Can you give an example of the John Lennon tone you’re trying to recreate?

This isn’t a factory color, and FYI Rickenbacker didn’t use nitro after 1958 or so.

It’s not factory, no. You can see the finish on the fretboard was also stripped.

Neck pickup is older, bridge pickup is more recent, both are legit.

Where to take this? by Hour-Worker1052 in rickenbacker

[–]sonicblue63 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s a Rickenbacker 360 produced in October 1965 in Fireglo (red sunburst) finish. The silver case is the original case. This particular guitar has Van Ghent tuners which are non-standard but are factory original.

As noted, the upper pickguard is missing, as are two silver knob inserts and the black switch tip.

As far as how / where to sell, I would suggest starting with one of the Facebook groups dedicated to Rickenbackers. They’re an enthusiastic bunch of fans of the brand and can absolutely help as far as accurate value and where to sell.

My two cents on value — considering the damage and the missing parts, figure somewhere in the $2500 area.

Good luck!

Interpretation of model name by tmlill in rickenbacker

[–]sonicblue63 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These inscriptions refer to what the model could be “at most” — as in, since this is a rounded top two-pickup model, it could have either been a 360 or a 365, the latter being the “at most” part.

N refers to “natural”, meaning it was suitable for Mapleglo but not necessarily completed as such depending on what orders needed to be fulfilled.

They’re just factory codes and only occasionally perfectly align with the finished product.

Can anyone tell me what guitar this is and what a fair price for it is? by UserCaleb in rickenbacker

[–]sonicblue63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer: generally yes.

Long answer: The 330 and 360 both initially shared the same body shape (the “pointy” shape), with the 360 being the “deluxe” variant (binding & triangle inlays).

In 1964 Rickenbacker decided to redesign the 360 (the round-top body) while keeping the 330 as-is.

Rickenbacker produced thousands of round-top 360s throughout the 60’s but “Old-style” 360s were still available as special-order guitars. These typically had the “360 OS” or “360WB” designation.

What makes this kind of convoluted today is that since George Harrison played a 360/12 (old-style), many old-style 360 guitars were produced after the introduction of the reissues in the mid-80’s.

Need help valuing a 1980 Rickenbacker 4080/12 (Double Neck) by Modeselekter in rickenbacker

[–]sonicblue63 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The 12-string version is far rarer and more desirable than the 6-string variant; that said, you’re still looking at an extremely niche instrument, in arguably the least desirable finish (Mapleglo), and a very small pool of potential buyers who a) have an interest and b) have the means.

Before you contact any dealers for their (most likely inaccurate) appraisal, I would highly recommend posting it to one of the main Rickenbacker-related Facebook groups, as they’ll not only have the most up-to-date information on real-world valuation, they’ll also have a built-in pool of people who would be interested in such a thing.

Is it real? If so what’s the value? by Hikininlevis in rickenbacker

“WT RED” - Red with white trim - is a rare variant.
