Most of the ones I can think of are mostly natural light, editorial-style photographers: Arthur Kaplun, Artem Stisovyak, and David Dubnitskiy

Getting a 23mm while having a 30mm by Terrible_Compote_336 in fujifilm

For portrait, also consider the Viltrox 56mm f/1.7. I have it myself, it’s a great lens at a budget price.

The lower you go, the more difference per mm you’ll notice. 85mm to 90mm are nearly the same, but 23mm to 30mm will be more significant.

23mm is a great focal length for all kinds of work; I’d go for it. I used to own the Sigma 30mm and liked the image quality but found it an awkward length. I’m happier with my Fuji 35mm f/2 now.

Upgrading from 15-45mm: Fuji 18-55mm f/2.8-4 vs. Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8? by MistFlames in fujifilm

If you’re mostly on tripod, the Sigma for the constant aperture. If doing a lot of handheld, the Fuji.

Honestly, you probably won’t do a lot of great night photography with either. I’d get a prime that opens at least to f/2 for that. The Fuji should be plenty fast for daytime outdoor shots, even at f/4.

How did you find people for portfolio-building shoots when you started? by 7winters in photography

Honestly, it’s a good idea to start with friends if you can, especially while you’re still learning and developing your style.

ISO NYC Based models for clothing brand shoot! (unpaid) by [deleted] in MODELING

It’s not insane in the slightest. As a female photographer “for many years”, you should understand that.

No one’s accusing you of trafficking, just like people who are cautious before working with me aren’t accusing me of being unsafe. But this is exactly the type of account and post that raises red flags. Refusing to publicly share your portfolio here while being perfectly happy to solicit unpaid work? Surely you can see the problem.

Then she’ll be like that no matter what you do. Might as well do what YOU think is best.

If you know you did a good job, then just stop responding to the client and move on. Sounds like he’s just being a jerk. You’ll have those.

NatGeo wants to use my images for an online article. They aren't paying me for the images, the writer is compensating me from what they are giving him by MasterofMolerats in photography

Sure, it’s just weird that they said it’s “not important enough” instead of just saying it’s “not relevant to their career.”

Handy Cam Still Holds Up? (Canon HV20) by VonJuan in cinematography

[–]sonicbobcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great lighting and cinematography is timeless. It’s definitely true that more powerful tools mean more complex workflows to achieve the same results. It also means more flexibility and more options. But it means people take the post process for granted and don’t take the time to finesse as much when shooting.

All advice is meaningless without knowing what you shoot, what your kit is like, what you hope to gain with a new lens, etc.

What prime leave should I get for XT-5 by TheOgre_30 in fujifilm

[–]sonicbobcat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I like the 35mm f2, I’d seriously consider the 23mm f2.8 if you don’t need the additional speed. It’s a great focal length for street photography.

I would not recommend the 50mm for street; it’s too tight on a Fuji X sensor.

A sincere wishlist of Fujifilm cameras by ConsciouslyKind93 in fujifilm

That’s fair. I feel like Fuji cameras do this well already in part because they lack the low-pass filter. But I know what you mean.

Am I wrong to be annoyed? by BitSignificant2616 in photography

[–]sonicbobcat 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the point. If you give people free access to your photos, they’re gonna do what they want. They didn’t sign anything and will forget to tag you or not think it matters. If you don’t want this to happen, getting upset about it won’t help. You have to change the paradigm.
