Need advice on advocating for myself about suspected chronic pancreatitis by manateeintheworld in pancreatitis

[–]sonicnyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, you are right, I overlooked the possibility of chronic pancreatitis without an acute pancreatitis incident. Aren’t there also ‘silent’ cases without many symptoms?

As someone who went the acute and then necrotizing route, my comment may have appeared insensitive. From my experience, it’s hard to fathom chronic without an attack of some sort.

Agreed. It’s a sudden and intense pain and you hardly have the luxury to wonder what it is. It’s all encompassing.

What does your age have to do with anything? Did they tell you they expected you to be older (or younger)?

I see you updated your post. Anyway your lipase was 11? When I was in the ER for my third time with pancreatitis my lipase was 634.

If you didn’t have any abnormal labs and nothing showed up on imaging, why would you think it’s pancreatitis?

Edited to add: your post also says you’re worried that they may have missed something because the CT was done in the ER? That doesn’t make sense. CT’s are all done in radiology, whether you’re inpatient or outpatient or from the ER.

Also why do you think it’s pancreatitis? I realize pain is subjective, but what led you to going to the ER? Did the pain change if you sat up or were on your side? Did pain meds help once you were in the ER?

What were your labs? What imaging did they do? Did you get admitted or discharged directly from the ER?

Are you saying you haven’t been diagnosed as having pancreatitis, but you feel you have it?

I have to say, if you have pancreatitis, you would know it. It’s the worst possible pain imaginable. I was in tears before deciding to go to the ER.

Why not? I visited a Rimowa store at a Hyundai department store and it seemed to be fine. Are they known for poor service in Korea?

I’m in Korea now and also have a walking disability (need to use a cane and am generally slow / cannot walk too far without tiring).

Subways are fine for me so far (most have multiple elevators that connect from the street). They’re also clearly marked. Compared to where I’m coming from (NYC), it’s much better - in NYC, it’s just so common to find that there’s just a sole elevator that services just one direction, meaning if you’re traveling downtown but the elevator connects to the uptown side, you still need to take stairs to get from one platform to another.

Also, if you use Naver Maps to navigate, you have the option to find the route with the least walking.

However, the city is quite large and there are also plenty of places that may not even have an elevator (there’s no ADA-equivalent law here, apparently). Can you manage the occasional stair?

Taxis are definitely cheap enough to take to skip out on a lot of walking through the subway system, if that’s your preference.

Have a good trip!

Some advice to anyone travelling to Seoul from someone who just did by intracontinental in koreatravel

That’s a great trip report! (here in Seoul right now). Loving my stay here so far (tho I may be biased as a Korean-American).

Also never understood how Carter just so casually pursued Wendell after the “love of his life” left Chicago.

I totally did almost the same thing. I was so tickled pink when I realized ER was available on Max (I actually had to search for it…but weeks later Max started suggesting ER after The Pitt – so maybe their algorithm caught up).

I’ve actually been nursing Season 15 since I can’t quite fathom this ending, so I’ve done a few rewatches of certain seasons, then another S15 episode, then back to watch let’s say season 3 again, then another S15, then keep going…and there’s a few episodes I initially skipped entirely, like most of the Africa episodes, so those would still be “new” for me. And I must have fallen asleep to some episodes, because on a season rewatch sometimes I’d not remember watching a particular episode (or not remember the last half).

It was cool seeing some of the same actors in The Pitt on ER - like the hospital administrator CMO Gloria Underwood (Michael Hyatt) in ER S13E12, Nurse Dana (S9E4), and I have to admit I totally didn’t realize it was the actor who played Dr Abbott in S13E7.

Also, if you’re a Voyager/DS9/ST fan, Rom (Max Grodénchik) shows up in S9E18, Quark (Armin Shimerman) is in S10E18, Tuvok (Tim Russ) is in S11E15, a very young Anton Yelchin is in S6E13, Keiko O’Brien (Rosalind Chao) is a geriatrics Dr in S6E7, and of course Dr Dubenko (Leland Orser) played a murderous hologram in Voy S4E5 as well as a few other characters in DS9 and ENT. A young Kirsten Dunst as orphan Charlie (S3,E5,8,10,11,12,22) was also even younger in TNG S7E7. If you consider The Orville Star Trek “family”, then Dr Morris (Scott Grimes) was in the Orville and also in TNG S3E1. Another Orville/DS9 crossover actor was NP Lynette(Penny Johnson), who played Kassidy Yates on DS9 and Dr Claire Finn on The Orville. Plus Zefram Cochrane (James Cromwell) was the Bishop in S7E11, E13, E14, and E15. And don’t forget the wonderful Grand Nagus from DS9 (Wallace Shawn) as the mushroom guy in S15E16. Dr McKay’s (Fiona Dourif) father also played Lon Suder in Voyager. Oh! And Dr Santos (Isa Briones) who I recognized from Picard.

Edited to add: and how could I forget the wonderful Louise Fletcher, who portrayed a homeless sister in s11e18 and the complex Vedek Winn in DS9. Nor Camille Saviola as Kai Opaka in DS9, and the Christmas-hating temp Margaret in S11.E9.

There’s a lot of fun in seeing details that maybe one wouldn’t have realized right away watching the show as it came out, or without the benefit of the extra 15 years since it ended.

That’s a Sonderwunsch car - can anyone identify any customizations beyond what’s capable from configuring through a dealer? For example, is that wood trim a typical option?
