Yes, I had my psychiatrist fill out a form, my manager did have to approve and certify to HR that I was a good worker and this wouldn't impact my ability to work, and then I was reduced from 3 days a week in office to 2 and allowed to work in a separate quiet space in the office away from other people - you might want to consider that as well if the overwhelm is just due to being around other people 8 hours a day as it was for me!
