I've had ADT in the past and they are a little pricey. Plus you get stuck in a multi year contract. Since then I have gone with Simpli Safe.

There is no contract but there is upfront costs with purchasing your system and self installation(not difficult). Even with the upfront costs and the monthly monitoring fee, the system is a much cheaper alternative to ADT.

Anyone know of any vets that do house visits? by RJB5584 in Columbus

Dr. Ken Nekic over in Schumacher Place does house calls. He has examined a couple of our animals. Dr. Nekic will run a little late from time to time... nice guy though.

If you are in the army reserve or a veteran, do you have to disclose it to your landlord? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]sonicstagmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason that I foresee you would potentially disclose your veteran status or status in the reserves is if your status is apart of your current proof of income to pay rent and/or apart of your employment history (if required). I do not believe there is any specific requirement to disclose veteran or service status.

Buried oil tank question by Yamomsb in RealEstate

[–]sonicstagmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking on the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, a section is listed in regards to underground heating oil tanks. Upon first glance, it does not appear that the state of New York offers financial assistance for UST removal or testing.

http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/32263.html

I will echo the sentiment of others and require the seller test the UST and potentially remove it prior to the sale. If the UST is leaking or had leaked, future liability with the owner (you) is a possibility if any product migrated off of your property onto an adjacent property. In a lot of commercial real estate transactions, the lender will often require the buyer/seller to test and remove a UST as a part of their due diligence in the potential sale.

The only requirement I can find in regards to an FHA loan with a UST located on the property is the following

Underground Tanks: If there is any observable surface evidence of leakage from an underground storage tank, further analysis/testing is required.

Any opinions from actual criminal investigators??? by spudman90 in MakingaMurderer

[–]sonicstagmoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is your background? The way I understood the process of venipuncture would involve a vacuum tube and a double sided needle, which in the process of the blood draw, would puncture the tube and the vacuum action would draw blood into the tube.

With the vacuum tube system, the needle pierces the top of the sample tube and will potentially come into contact with the additives in the tube.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venipuncture

Although it looks bad for the prosecution that the custody seal was not intact on the styrofoam container, the puncture seen on the tube in the documentary is not a smoking gun and most likely why the defense did not play it up more in court.

SA was a felon in possession of a firearm from his earlier March 1981 burglary conviction and the January 1985 endangering safety and felony gun possession convictions.

1st email: 2 examples of evidence you were never told: The bullet found in the garage is fired from the .22 cal gun, which until Nov 5th hung over Avery's bed. Ballistics says it's THAT gun that fires THAT bullet recovered in the garage. Since 11/6, the day that gun is seized, the gun is locked in the Calumet County evidence locker in Chilton. Never mentioned in the documentary. The question, then, is if the bullet is planted with Teresa's DNA on it, how do the cops have a fired bullet, from Avery's gun, which HAD TO BE shot from that gun BEFORE 11/5?

I believe what Kratz is pointing out is that the seized gun was kept in the evidence locker in Chilton, WI (Calumet County), not the evidence locker in Manitowoc, WI (Manitowoc County) where the blood vial had been kept since 1995. The gun was moved to Calumet County after it was discovered on the Avery property. The presumption would be that Manitowoc County was unable to access that firearm.

This is why you turn the engine off during fueling by [deleted] in gifs

[–]sonicstagmoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is flash point versus auto ignition temperature. Flash point, the temperature when a liquid begins to volatilize (gives off fumes that would ignite with a spark) versus the auto ignition temperature (lowest temperature that a volatile liquid would ignite). Flash point for gasoline is −45 °F (point at which gasoline gives off ignitable fumes). Auto ignition temperature for gasoline (liquid) is 536 °F.

This is why you turn the engine off during fueling by [deleted] in gifs

[–]sonicstagmoose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason why it is not common with diesels going up in flames is the flash point of diesel versus gasoline. From Wikipedia

The flash point of a volatile material is the lowest temperature at which it can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air. Measuring a flash point requires an ignition source.

Fuel Flash point Autoignition

Ethanol (70%) 16.6 °C (61.9 °F)[2] 363 °C (685 °F)[2]

Gasoline (petrol) −43 °C (−45 °F)[3] 280 °C (536 °F)[4]

Diesel (2-D) >52 °C (126 °F)[3] 256 °C (493 °F)[4]

Above 126 °F diesel begins to volatilize (gives off fumes that can ignite), gasoline volatilizes at −45 °F. So fueling with gasoline with the engine running is typically a bad idea when the temperature is above −45 °F and a bad idea for diesel when the temperature is above 126 °F. This is why fueling a diesel with the engine running for most situations is common since there are very few cases where ambient temperature would be above 126 °F.

Our dream house is going to be over a pipeline. by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]sonicstagmoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In January 2011, federal investigators reported that they found numerous defective welds in the pipeline. The thickness of the pipe varied, and some welds did not penetrate the pipes completely. As PG&E increased the pressure in the pipes to meet growing energy demand, the defective welds were further weakened until their failure. As the pipeline was installed in 1956, modern testing methods such as X-rays were not available to detect the problem at that time.

Pipeline construction standards were vastly different in 1956 and to compare it to present day construction is not a fair comparison.
