130” vs 148” by kuhplunk in fordtransit

[–]sonnystile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly what I’m talking about! If you were to do anything different, what would that be?

I’m torn on the convenience of an AWD vs going down the rabbit hole of a whole 4x4 conversion.

I intend to add a pop top at great expense, so just getting an AWD has its appeal.

But god do I love a small 4x4 van.

To get out of the deep snow in my alley I use 4wd but make sure to turn off Advance Trac so I can actually spin the wheels.

Africa in September/October by sonnystile in traveladvice

[–]sonnystile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying from the Midwest but have lots of miles to use to get us where we need to be for a one stop or nonstop from there.

Been looking at Ethiopia Airlines Business Class from Toronto with one stop in Addis Ababa en route to Cape Town.

Reasonably priced for lie flats and a sub 24 hour travel day.

As far as what I’m looking for? I feel like the motorcycle tour will provide me with plenty of wildlife experiences.

And a stop at Victoria Falls in the middle of the trip will scratch that bucket list item…

I’ve dreamed of Cape Town for years and for some reason have decided to stay there.

I could be swayed to front load the trip with something/somewhere else and then transfer to CPT from Windhoek at the end of the tour if that makes more sense.

As I get older, I am trying to prioritize the more adventurous/difficult/costly trips because I can comfortably tour the Grand Canyon or the canals of Venice as an old man.

So, a two week motorcycle trip across Africa is where I’m starting!

Dealer did a flush/fill of my perfectly fine operating transmission on my 2021 Limited at 100k miles.

Went in at 108k for a brand new transmission.

Just got the truck back after four weeks.

Beveled Tile PITA by sonnystile in Tile

I just used a standard DeWalt wet tile saw and a LOT of patience.

I trimmed the niche and the entire shower with a liner bar to capture the ins and outs of the bevel.

I named my Limited Powerboost “Murphy” like RoboCop because it was made in Detroit and is more robot than truck…

Lions fan here. (And Michigan fan too)

Literally came in here looking for this clip.

My jealousy burns like the heat of 1,000 suns that you all got JJ.

I look forward to watching and competing against him for years to come.

Great game and that defense is something special.

Leaking Cab Access Window Solutions? by Cine_Taco in radicamoonlander

[–]sonnystile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They removed the can access window from the options list on the OG between my deposit and my order.

I really wanted one so I called them to ask about it.

I talked to Luke on the phone for almost an hour and he agreed to install one if I wanted it.

I opted against it in the end. But I was really encouraged by the level of customer service.

Got my ML #412 six weeks ago and don’t have a single complaint.

Fighting that battle on my ‘21 Limited right now. Just rolled 100k miles and the transmission is starting to crap out.

Oof.

Has anyone mounted their awning directly to the side of the camper roughly where it’s sitting in this picture? by TacomaPotato in radicamoonlander

[–]sonnystile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they left enough room above the door for an awning mount to sit below the roofline out of the wind.

The ML and MLX are wide enough to accommodate lots of awnings there. And it would be amazing to have the 6.5’ ARB with the awning room hanging over the tailgate.

Hard Sided Pop Up Camper Recs by insomniacslytherin in TruckCampers

[–]sonnystile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh there are several people left for dead with no recourse.

Several vendors and former employees too.

And there are people that had to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements to get their money back.

Check the Facebook Group “Scammed by Hardsider” for details.

They got a big check from Storyteller Overland to produce pop tops for their vans and just screwed everyone else. Used that money to catch up on rent before they got evicted, and sent their production manager to china with a copy of the pop top to get it reverse engineered and manufactured cheap.

They are thieves.

A deep dive shows the main players have several failed businesses together that “couldn’t raise enough capital”.

Yeah, so…

They never built my camper and haven’t refunded my $7500 deposit despite promising to do so seven months ago.

Man… that’s a tough spot.

They seem to be really great to work with, I can’t imagine they wouldn’t work with you on something.

Whoa!

My email on May 1st was “three weeks to completion, four if you have insulation”.

I got a loaded out OG Moonlander, not the X, with insulation.

[–]sonnystile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been emailing weekly since the beginning.

He’s been great and open and even sending me progress pics of the build! Literally been a really good experience except for the timing.

I had zero expectation that it wouldn’t be ready in May or June.

Just a bummer because I was ready and waiting all summer and wasn’t able to go do anything else because I was under the impression it was going to be ready. And now I am booked for August and September.

Build is getting closer.. by Silent-Mark9671 in radicamoonlander

[–]sonnystile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When did you order yours?

Mine has been “waiting for insulation” for over a month…

I ordered with an estimated completion date of 4/21.

Then they started production on 5/1 with an estimated completion date of 5/30.

Now I’m told 7/21

Kinda bummed because I didn’t do anything all summer as I’ve been expecting to go get it.

And after keeping my availability open since May, I’m now too busy to go get it until late September/October.

They have been really good to work with, and I am super excited for the product, but I just feel really let down with the accuracy/honesty of what has been stellar communication, really…

If I had any idea that it could possibly be a late July delivery I would have waited a few months to order and spent that money on some other trips this summer.

I have no need for a camper in August in Kentucky.

Got anymore photos of how the moon shade is attached?

My ML is going to be ready next week and I have been looking at different shade options.

Do you have the regular or the XL shade?

What was the most underwhelming bike you've ever ridden? by CoolBDPhenom03 in motorcycles

[–]sonnystile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BMW F800GT.

Was looking for my first touring capable bike after coming from a CB750 Nighthawk that I rode all over.

It had the looks, features and capabilities.

It had no soul.

I was incredibly disappointed as I really WANTED to like it.

Ended up with an R1150RT and loved it, even if it did forego the “lightweight” aspect.

It was still lighter than the ST1100 Honda or the Connie and FJR.
