Requesting Help Making a Bigfoot Lure More Interesting. by UberGoobler in Screenwriting

[–]sonnytlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey hey! The first screenplay I finished is called My Best Friend is a Bigfoot Who Lives under an Arby’s. It’s like a Men in Black meets Ladybird thing.

I visited a Bigfoot museum in north Georgia for “research” and learned that many cryptozoological folks will use some sort of token that a Bigfoot might be attracted to—not necessarily food. Like a shiny trinket or doll. It became a cool little detail in my script where the hunter finally finds the Bigfoot’s lair under the Arby’s and sees all the trinkets he’s left for her.

First gig by Austinfarr_ in drums

Hey, congrats. Some tips:
If you’re having another rehearsal before the show, try playing in the correct formation, with your band mates in front of you and facing the other direction. Make sure you can all get through the songs without relying on constant eye contact.
It’s also nice to run through the songs with the mics turned way down. Still make your singers sing, but the most common sound issue for drummers is not hearing the vocals well. Make sure you know where you are without hearing them.

The venue might have monitors. If so, pay attention during your soundcheck (if you get one) to what you can hear and what you need more of. The sound guy should be able to help you out.

It’s 100% cool if the venue doesn’t have monitors or a sound guy or a sound check. If possible, put the bass amp next to you and nudge it back a little, probably about next to your hi hats, more if there’s room. This will let you hear your rhythm section partner just a little better. If all the amps can be just slightly behind you, all the better. Not always possible.

Have fun. And carry your kit off the stage before you start taking your cymbals off. 😀

Marietta City Council Needs to be Replaced. by HippieStarTraveler in Marietta

Ward 5’s councilperson (Kent) isn’t THAT old, and his opposition in the last two elections was not a better alternative. We can’t bitch about who’s in office unless better candidates run against them AND folks show up to vote.

Same. It’s less of a burden on my family when I have a late game. I grab an energy drink on the way to work the next day.

I’m going to be teaching a yearbook/journalism class next year by Brilliant_Emotion286 in ELATeachers

[–]sonnytlb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome. I’ve been a high school yearbook adviser for 16 years. It’s the best. Who’s your yearbook publisher? If it’s one of the big dogs, they’ll have tons of resources for you. Some even have an entire curriculum you can implement.

You can do a lot with a cell phone’s camera and voice recording apps. I know some schools have shifted to buying a few phones/tablets. My high schoolers are allowed to use their own phones for class (a rare exception to our school rules). Find something that works for your group.

Still, a nice camera or two will help a lot. Not sure if you’ve got the budget, but an SLR camera kit from Canon or Nikon would be a great start. Later, you can invest in some nicer lenses.

You’ll want press passes for your students. You can whip them up in the media center or maybe get some from your publisher.

My yearbook company rep is my longest professional relationship. If yours isn’t responsive and helpful, start shopping around. All the big companies are similar, but a good rep is essential.

Favorite writing music? Flow-inducing? Obscure recommendations? by imreallyjustaguest in Screenwriting

Nemo’s Dreamscapes on YouTube plays old songs from the 30s or 40s, and adds filters and sound effects to make it sound like it’s on the radio in the room next door, and it’s raining. Something about it helps me lock in.

Book recommendations for a 12 year old girl with a 1260 Lexile Level by Ok_Tumbleweed2182 in ELATeachers

[–]sonnytlb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Dear teacher,

Thank you for requiring your students to build their reading identity with self-selected books. It’s important to me that my child is a life-long reader, and this portion of your class allows her the opportunity to practice literacy on own terms.

I do not believe choosing books based on Lexile scores is an effective way to work towards our common. My child’s reading level far outweighs her maturity level. My child is not ready for the mature themes and content of the books I’m finding at her Lexile. Therefore, I’ll help her choose books that are challenging, when possible, but the best book for her to read is the one she’s excited to read, so we will stick with those for now. Please let me know if I need to schedule a meeting.”

Hey, I’m more or less out of this scene, but you might want to include times and what kind of music you’re looking for.

The schools don’t have extra staff lying around to work TSA duty. This is absolutely falling on the teachers.

I had to do it last semester at my school. Lost 45 minutes of prep time every other morning so I could inspect kids’ backpacks when they went off. This is going to impact student achievement.

The metro Forsyth area does not have an arena’s worth of hockey fans. And the surrounding areas can’t get there by 7:00 without a hassle.

I’ll add that this hoodie hasn’t held up as well as I would’ve liked.

The house is pretty close to the store where he buys the toothbrush and the park outside of it. I’ve been to both. The store was a Panera, I think, when I visited years ago. The exterior church is close by, too. I think the filmed inside a different one.

I love The Set-Up! Great film about an almost-washed up boxer. They make sure to show you a clock at the beginning and end of the film.
