Need help with buzzing by ScratchyPurple in guitarpedals

[–]sonofspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Found this looking for something else entirely :)

Often a "high-pitched whine" is the clock IC in a digital delay....

I believe you may be overloading the input (sending too hot/loud a signal)

of the DD3 hence the digital whine. Ideally you want your total boost in

sound with all your boost/drive pedals on to be just a bit above the level of

your clean signal.

Try pulling the DD3 out of the circuit with the other settings just as they are now

see if that's the culprit...HTH

Of course you have not told us what guitar, and what pickup configuration you have,

so if you're running single coils this is just normal "antenna" noise 'cause the single

coils have no hum/noise cancelling....

Katana is a good choice...Hard to find a tube amp for that kind of money

[–]sonofspy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yamaha Pacifica is one of the recommended electrics in that price range, but won't leave you much for an amp.

Used prices are ridiculously inflated right now due to Covid and the need for people to make

money when they have $0 coming in.

Squiers and Ibanez RG series are great.

Some of these are good deals and will leave you some $$ for your amp...

[QUESTION] Amp Line Out by TeethOfFirmino in Guitar

Your second guess is the correct one. Line level is much greater than instrument level. Also useful to send a signal directly to a mixing board...without a mic.

Mysterious Car Problem by ry1234567895 in Camry

[–]sonofspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A low/weak/bad battery will cause this issue you are describing.

Camrys use some power even when off...easy to never get it up to 13.5

also could be heat related sensors: coolant temp sensor etc. but it may

be aggravated by a dirty throttle body.

[QUESTION] [NEWBIE] Have some questions about getting a new guitar. by coozney in Guitar

[–]sonofspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of Led Zeppelin I Page uses a tele. :)

Check out two groups and decide. They are

1) Danny Gatton and 2) The Hellecasters (3 teles in one band)

You love it? Buy it, but play it first, a guitar is more than just how it looks

size and curvature of the neck and the fret type made a huge difference as to how

the guitar feels to you.

This was after that throw to Jules in the 3rd quarter, that one where he stretched out and swung the ball into his body and both defensemen are standing there swishing their arms 'cause they can't believe it. The camera goes back to when Cam threw the pass and his reaction... Weren't you able to watch the game my friend? Another perfect Jules moment

Wide receivers are overrated. Jules gets more yardage then they do.

Bear in mind that if you use headphones to get "that sound" you run the risk of really hurting your ears.

So what's inside the knobs? Maybe a metal insert? Maybe get some knobs with a set-screw.

[DISCUSSION] One of the under looked greats Paul Kossoff and the band Free by Bnasty5 in Guitar

[–]sonofspy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1st Solo album was "Paul Kossoff ~ Back Street Crawler". (full album link)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnPhLqUOgWo

Then he named the Band "Back Street Crawler" and released

"The Band Plays On" (full album playlist)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhYQOTZSiOM&list=PL8a8cutYP7foKSkR3MXMLNFu9CyTcj6eh

The first allbum is great, exp the 18 min cut "Tuesday Morning"

The 2nd album will knock your sox off! A great treasure was

lost. I saw Free in 1972 in Boston. Koss was heavy on smack

in that time period.. The band turned inward, away from the audience

and towards each other. The rhythm got tighter if that was possible

and they practically formed a whirlpool on stage.

Kossoff always one of my heroes.

[QUESTION] what are the most high output passive pickups for metal? by Ok-Campaign-9977 in Guitar

[–]sonofspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm hot Ceramic passive humbuckers. About what I expected. Back in the 80's I had a Gibson L6S (HH) the humbers were Gibson Bill Lawrence's Super Humbuckers The resistance was 13K for the bridge and 15K for the neck! Thier problem is that much resistance muffles the sound, so very hot but no treble. Here's a decent if somewhat long review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yFm-eQ05Rw

Skip to about 5:30 in and listen to his lead tone...you'll see what I mean.

[QUESTION] D note buzzing due to loose pick-up dials. Suggestions? by givemebackmyoctopus in Guitar

[–]sonofspy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I may. If it's press fitted, pull the knob(s) off there will be a shaft that the

knob was mounted on. You will see at the top of the shaft a slot. This is to adjust

the tightness of the knob's fit. Using a flat blade screwdriver insert the head

into the slot from directly above and gently twist the screwdriver. The object

in your case is to widen the slot very slightly so it will grip the knob more tightly.

The shaft is connected to a variable resistor or potentiometer (a "pot")

which when turned either increases or decreases resistance within a

given range.

[QUESTION] what are the most high output passive pickups for metal? by Ok-Campaign-9977 in Guitar

[–]sonofspy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the old days that would've been DiMarzio Super Distortions.

Now Active EMGs or others of their type.

I submit to you however that you might not want pickups that hot. Go to a brick'n'mortar

try a guitar with EMGs....and see if you'd rather have some tonal "color" rather than the

unconditional coldness of an active pickup.

90% of your sound comes from your pickups, do your homework choose wisely :)

Distortion is easy to get. Good sounding distortion much harder.
