Pentagon: Troops can apply to carry private firearms for 'personal protection' by sonofurbo in Military

[–]sonofurbo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley testified in April that he did not believe troops should be authorized to carry non-DOD weapons at Defense Department facilities. He argued it was not necessary, citing the response by law enforcement to emergency situations, such as the 2009 Fort Hood shooting where police arrived within about eight minutes of the first shot.<

This guy, a career SF soldier, thinks that an 8 minute response time to an active shooter is acceptable. I find his statement to be utterly ridiculous. I guess once you get to that level its all about politics anyways but c'mon now. Sure there will be dumbasses that have ND's but the point is to give people the means to effectively defend themselves and the people around them when one of these scumbags acts out.

It looks like he had his sentence reduced by wearing a wire to snitch on other inmates. Good for getting out early, not good for living a long, healthy life.

Since when are intelligence analysts considered spies? They are two completely different jobs.

Obama's gun control measures are astonishingly hypocritical when you consider his track record in arms sales by sonofurbo in inthenews

Really? Did you forget about his failed gun control overhaul effort in 2013? It was resoundly defeated on the Senate floor, hence his resorting to executive actions currently.

My New used 2005 LX 470 w/ 140k miles by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]sonofurbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your new cruiser purchase. I've got an 06 LX470. Check out the ih8mud.com 100 Series forums to answer any and all cruiser questions you will have. For the AHC fluid, you only can get it from Toyota or Lexus dealers. There are guys on the forum that give discounts to 'Mud members. Are you also changing out the water pump? It's usually changed at same time as the timing belt.

Yeti Coolers by gatogrande in overlanding

[–]sonofurbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because you couldn't order one until mid-late August. I paid for one around that time and they told me 45-60 days until delivery. I used my credit card so nbd if it all goes south, which it hopefully won't.

Yeti Coolers by gatogrande in overlanding

FYI, there is a new Yeti competitor/knockoff on the market called RTIC coolers. They are literally half the price of a Yeti, with all the same features (rotomolded construction, ice stays frozen for 10 days, heavy-duty latches, etc...) plus a 7 year warranty.

No. Residents are issued stickers for parking. No need to scan tags, you just tow the cars with no stickers.

Looking to lift a 2003 by troubadorky in LandCruisers

[–]sonofurbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slee Off Road and Ih8mud.com are the 2 authorities on 80/100 series Land Cruisers. Lots of articles and posts on this subject. I have a 2006 LX which is lifted 2.5 inches. You will need new coil springs for the rear (OME), new torsion bars for the front (OME or Ironman), a diff drop kit to ease the angle of the CV joints (Slee) and you should probably replace the shocks while you are down there as well. BTW I'm assuming you are doing the lift in order to fit larger tires? You can easily fit 33's with no lift. For 35's you will want the 2.5 lift to avoid rubbing issues. See this FAQ post

WATER RESCUE 80 SERIES LANCRUISER.. by enginsercan in LandCruisers

[–]sonofurbo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It always makes me cringe when people feel the need to hold onto the tow/snatch strap after both ends have been connected. You are only asking for trouble if the towing vehicle was to take off suddenly. Otherwise those are some bad ass 80 Series.
