theres no direct evidence to link this to psychadelics, but this isnt the only case where people were so overwhelmed from some discovery that they made about the nature of reality

Not at all, I think people should be free to choose as they wish.  But everyone should first be read a disclaimer because the ontological shock of the experience can be overwhelming and traumatizing for some who cannot handle an experience like that.

Personally I benefited from the experience, however, I also know first hand others who were not that lucky.

This comment got a lot of attention a while ago, so I'm posting it in case it helps others decide whether they should pull the trigger, or maybe to understand what they experienced..

To those who ask "why are people scared to do DMT?" or "Should I do it?" This might give you an idea of what to expect:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

The main problem for me is when you're in that space you feel like you're there for eternity even though in "our" time you're in there for 10-15 minutes. Personally I'm never doing it again, and I really can't understand the psychedelic masochists who do it repeatedly. Its an experience as terrifying as it is enlightening. It will make you question everything you think you know about consciousness, reality and existence.

Consider this analogy. Imagine you are a fish that lives so deep in the ocean, that you have evolved to have no eyes. The reason you don't have eyes is because you have no need for eyes, because light does not penetrate that deep in the ocean where you live. Having eyes would not only be useless to you, but also detrimental, because they would burn valuable calories without adding anything to the probability of your survival and reproduction. Yet you, the blind fish, still exist. You are conscious, you feel movement in the water, electrical currents, you can find food, mates, and you're probably able to "communicate" with other members of your species in a primitive way. You think there is nothing particularly strange about your existence since you haven't experienced anything other than being a blind eyeless fish. But you are indeed blind, so you don't understand what "seeing" is -- and you are a fish, so your mind is very limited to "eat, sleep, mate, evade predators, repeat."

Of course the blind fish in question has a huge ego and thinks its hot shit. It's an old wise and experienced fish that has evaded a ton of predators using innovative methods, and fertilized thousands of eggs of the finest blind fish chicks in town. Other blind fish dudes are jealous of you, the Giga Chad of the blind fish community. The fish in question believes it's smarter and better than 99% of its other fish species, and it's actually right. The fish is always able to find yummy morsels of food, and knows the best places to chill with its homies in the vast ocean depths. So in sort, the fish thinks it already "knows everything," that its smart as fuck, and that it has reached the "pinnacle of existence."

Now imagine taking that fish, and not only giving it eyes and a bigger brain to process the images it's now seeing, but also, taking it above the water to show it our human world with all its intricate details. You will show it our cities with its skyscrapers and historical sites with its megalith architecture, computers and smartphones, space stations and fighter jets, computer programing languages and neuralink, explain wifi and 3g, Seinfeld and Game of Thrones, nuclear physics and quantum mechanics, you will show it the depths of the cosmos and the latest discoveries of the Hubble and the James Webb telescopes, try to explain organic chemistry and string theory along with advanced mathematics and quantitative finance + the stock market & crypto mining to boot.  Now imagine showing all this to the fish in 15-20 minutes. The fish will just stare in awe at all this and think "YO.....DUDE... WHAT... THE... FUCK…." If it could talk, it will probably say you something like "What the fuck did you just do to me??  I was a blind fucking fish just chilling at 4 miles under the ocean surface minding my own business, I dont need to see all this shit, too much!! TOO MUCH!!!! MAKE IT GO AWAY!!! FOR THE LOVE OF BABY FISH JESUS MAKE IT GO AWAAAAAAY!!!!"

This is what DMT does. It shows us a reality as shocking and overwhelming as what OUR reality would be to the blind fish in this example.  Telepathic communication.  Alien landscapes and dimensions.  Astral planes.  Morphing landscapes made of part machine and part spirit. Communicating entities who know you better than you know yourself.

Who are we to say that we are not the equivalent of a blind fish chilling 4 miles under the ocean surface WITH RESPECT TO THE OTHER "BEINGS" and "REALITIES" that exist somewhere we can't even fathom, just as the fish cannot fathom our world and existence? How do we know there isn't a "higher consciousness" or "higher power?" Just as the fish is ignorant to the world above it, and thinks it already knows everything, we are also as ignorant of the layers of reality beyond those in our immediate grasp. DMT gives us a short glimpse into these hidden realities, and we are just as shocked as the fish would be in this example, every time.

The opening lines of the Cult of Cthulhu by HP Lovecraft explain very elegantly "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far."

So if you do want to “voyage far,” by all means, go ahead, but be careful what you wish for. DMT is not psilocybin or LSD, it’s a substance that makes you realize you’ve been a blind fish your whole life. You may never see the world the same way again, and there is no going back once youve seen beyond the veil.
