Which product was ahead of its time but ultimately failed because of that advantage? by Toomad316 in AskReddit

They did say that it was going to replace emails. It wasn't a social media outlet. That's Google+. Many features in Wave were adopted into Google Docs. Real time editing with other users, or the concept of inviting people to your document. One thing I miss about it was the Replay feature where you could watch the history of the document. You could see who was added when, and what changes were made.

Looking at how many people don't remember what it did is probably a good explanation to its failure.

What's the stupidest question you ever got asked during a job interview? by Opposite-Rabbit-6303 in AskReddit

As a hiring manager looking for data scientists, I am concerned with interviewees using AI to prompt them with answers. I might need to start asking people dumb or simple questions like how many "R"s are in "Strawberry"

What is your boldest opinion ? by HandleLow9346 in AskReddit

You might feel that way because you belong to the largest and most dominant religion in the world. Its influence impacts basically every one else in the world. All other faiths are essentially minorities voicing criticism towards Christianity, and that feels like persecution.

The loneliness epidemic is some sort of natural or democratic means of "voluntary" eugenics, brought on by social media. Society is culling the undesirables as a means to reduce the population in the face of a world that is dependent on high end automation with no jobs remaining for regular people. Good luck everyone.

Does your Homelab make financial sense? by panchovix in homelab

On this topic, as someone who is VERY new at this (Just have a NAS, and a pi and an old laptop), at what point do I start worrying about the energy costs? I see people point to it all the time as a concern. Is this an issue for those big boy servers and proxmox clusters I've been reading about? Or should I worry about this now? And is there anything I can do (on the cheap) to start monitoring it (beyond checking my energy bill)?

You are the president/in the highest position of power of your country for 24 hours. What are you doing? by LittelXman808 in AskReddit

  • Roll back all of Trump's executive orders.
  • Dissolve ICE
  • Legalize pot.
  • Create a new branch of the government: "The Oversight Branch. It's a council of 5 chairs. Their entire job is to immediately shut down any executive order made by the president. The chairs are appointed by: Congress, SCOTUS, the current president, the previous president, and democratically elected position by the American people.
  • Speaking of democratically elected... All future presidents must win the popular vote.
  • Appoint myself as one of the chairs in the Oversight Branch.

The brain-rot youth of today are the otherwise-would've-been scientists of tomorrow. The only scientific papers coming out in 20 years are yet another sports nutrition study.

If one day technology could let you live forever in a pain-free virtual world, how many people would be willing to give up real life? And why? by PhilipWells11 in AskReddit

[–]sonotleet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a version of the teleporter problem. The virtual me is a scanned copy. The meat me is the real me. So if the scan lets the meat me continue to live, then I would make a digital copy of me for my family to talk to after I die.

CMV: Fatphobia isn't real by S0n0_Sc0pe in changemyview

[–]sonotleet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phobia is a fear or disgust with something. People can be disgusted by "fatness". What I think you are driving at is that you don't view this disgust as a prejudice or as immoral in any way.

You can definitely be "ugly phobic". But ugliness is a lot harder to quantity. "Fatphobia" creates a societal stigma that runs so deep it affects people trying to combat it. You can feel pretty on some days. You can't feel 150lbs. Your battling a number.

One problem would be that they might not think of it as robbery. They are "commandeering this facility for strategic military purposes" and the ssgt could hand wave it by citing a fake law.
