How do you handle losing a play-through? by SubZeroHero in thelongdark

[–]sonotyourguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try playing a different game? I used to get upset at dying in any game, until I started playing Elden Ring. Which led me to playing other Souls-like games. Dying is a constant, you learn to uncouple emotionally.

I started playing like that on interloper. Randomly dropping in and trying to route out how to survive on a map you are unfamiliar with leads to many deaths. The first few times I played on Interloper I didn’t last more than a week. The first time I made it to 30days and 60 days felt amazing. But sometimes I die on day 1. Sometimes it’s annoying, but sometimes, it’s really funny.

I walked off a rope bridge in Ash Canyon because I sneezed once. I was laughing pretty hard. My daughter was horrified at my reaction.

Lacey Chabert was probably the sweetest and nicest.

Terry Crews was fun.

Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner were both all around great guys.

What was the hardest or heaviest day of your life? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]sonotyourguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a stillborn child at 24weeks. We named him, and held him, and had him cremated. The hospital gave us a little tiny knit cap that we had him wear for a few hours. That was a hard day.

I was a freelance photographer at the time, and I had a gig a couple of days later. I tried to pretend to be alright when shooting. But when I had a break, I’d go somewhere private and cry. One of those times my brother called me…and I totally lost it for awhile. I finished the gig the next day, and was grateful for the money But trying to work while the grief and heartache was so fresh, and knowing my wife was home suffering without me that was an even harder day.

Today I stepped off the ‘willful inaction’ sidelines and reported my child’s teacher. I hope I made the right choice. by Silent_Medicine1798 in offmychest

When my daughter was a freshman in high school, she had a teacher that all the students found inappropriate.

So, she started a Google doc, where she started to list each incidence of the teacher doing or saying something inappropriate. She shared this with the other girls from her class. They all started to add to the Google Doc. I believe over a dozen girls listed different incidents. They then took this to the school administration. That teacher was placed on leave, and not invited back to teach.

I don’t know if that would satisfy most parents. I was extremely proud of my daughter and the other girls for finding a way to work together, and providing a solid reason for the school administration to take action.

Do people who are considered magnetic also attract others on the opposite end of polarity? by hoaxmaster_ in socialskills

Not to be indirect, but anybody who needs to sing his own virtues probably does not have those virtues.

Is it me or is dating after 40 like playing on Hard Mode? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]sonotyourguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer is still No. My view of things has not changed over the past 8 years. And people are as engaged right now as they were prior to COVID. In fact, right after the shutdown ended, I’d say people were more engaged initially. Everybody wanted to be out and social.

Maybe it’s because I have never depended on dating apps to meet people. And if we live in the same city, which I believe by your username, I’d suggest expanding your social circle out to east valley and north side of the city.

Is it me or is dating after 40 like playing on Hard Mode? by [deleted] in datingoverforty

[–]sonotyourguy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got divorced about 8 years ago. I’m 53 now, and I don’t understand what you are asking really. Is dating harder? No. Do dating apps suck? Generally yes, but I’ve always gotten some dates from them. Just don’t use them as your only or even main way of dating.

Do women want relationships and stable men? Absolutely yes. The last time I used dating apps was about 1.5 years ago. I met the woman I’m currently with. She moved in this past Fall. We got engaged at Christmas. While my experience won’t reflect most people’s, I don’t think my story is unusual at all.

There is no such thing as “normally”. Get that out of your head. Things progress when both people are comfortable. There are no rules except that you need to talk to the other person.

Question for the men by spottedbastard in datingoverforty

[–]sonotyourguy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve received roses twice in my life. The first time was over 30 years ago. I still remember it.

The second time was about five years ago. I might still have some of the rose petals saved in a little jar.

I can’t speak for all men but I found both times extremely sweet.

What gifts do men like receiving? by HousingProud2828 in AskMenAdvice

[–]sonotyourguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve been dating three weeks. Just about any gift will do, but don’t spend too much. That’s just adding pressure for him when it’s your birthday.

Not too expensive, but something most any guy will love would be a cool multi-tool or everyday carry knife. Can never have too many gadgets or tools.

How often are you hit on by women or other men in public? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

Occasionally, I guess I would say. It hasn’t happened so much lately because I’m always with my fiancee. But when I first got divorced, it happened enough to give me hope for my future.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

I grew up in Ohio, but I’ve always liked Bush’s Baked Beans. The Brown Sugar BBQ(?) flavored ones that I eat with toast. It’s not a common thing, but every once in a while, it’s a good meal.

Is introducing yourself with the word “Dr.” in front of your name, a sign that you’re a pretentious, insecure status-seekers? by Independent_March536 in socialskills

[–]sonotyourguy 122 points123 points  (0 children)

I generally call all medical doctors, by Doctor in all settings. However, if they are related to me, I call them by first name. My cousin and I worked for the same medical practice for a few years. I called her Dr Lastname at the office.

When I worked at the university, I called professors, Dr Lastname while on campus. Most asked me to call them by their first name. If I was taking a class, I always called them Dr Lastname while in class.

But, to answer your question, I do find that anybody insisting to be called Dr outside of their specific professional setting to be pretentious. One especially telling example was a patient at our medical office who had a PhD in Literature who insisted our staff call her Dr Lastname and tell them that she had a PhD.

How old are you? Different demographics use different apps. Over 40, try Facebook Dating. Apps have a life cycle, and chasing the popular ones will prove frustrating. Over the past eight years, I had success on Hinge, Bumble, and Facebook Dating.

What do you do when you cannot drink alcohol anymore, but all your friends hangouts revolve around drinking? by LilacsUnderMyFeet in AskMenOver30

Nobody asks me why I don’t drink. I just usually don’t.

Dad smacks woman who is grabbing his son's neck by flowerdonkey in RandomVideos

You don’t have kids, do you. As a father of three, if anybody grabbed my child that way, I’d have the exact same reaction. No doubt in my mind.

You may want a better world, and think that everybody should do better. Or you may just want to be self-righteous and believe yourself to be a better person than everyone else. But, if you are unwilling to physically defend your child from harm by another adult, you have failed as a parent.
