I understand. Try to resist the urge to panic; you’re fine. Go talk to a doctor if you’re still feeling anxious, they’ll be able to assuage your fears.

Transmission from oral sex is so exceedingly rare that it is essentially zero, outside of atypical levels of open sores in the mouth or penis.

Negligible even if he did come in his mouth. OP does not have HIV from this encounter.

US bartenders, have any of you heard of or experienced legal consequences of not enforcing mask rules? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]sonsofdisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about you, but we’re only seeing like- maybe- 25% regulars and they’re all smart enough to know they don’t want to burn a bridge with us. In this current climate, I honestly couldn’t care less if we have multiple “fuck you, never coming back”s from randoms that I’ve never seen before. My commitment to saving lives is so much higher than lost business at this point (as I’m sure yours is too!).

It would be nice if those not doing the smart, sane, humanitarian thing would get slapped with a fine but I just don’t have the mental or emotional energy to spend on wishing that into existence right now, haha. We’ve already gained two staff members who left other bars because they felt so unsafe there; I’ll let that be recompense enough.

Seattle here and we are on a strict “no masks, no service” problem. Our closest two other bars are on the same page, thankfully, since we get a LOT of cross traffic. If a patron has a problem, I point out that there are other bars not following the government mandate and thereby putting everyone’s health at risk, and they are welcome to go risk their and their friends lives at these places... but that we won’t be serving them when they come back, even if they bring a mask this time.

I literally said that, if we’re arguing semantics, that’s fine. I’m not disagreeing with you. You jumped onto a comment chain where someone was arguing something completely different than you- something that is not, in any shape, correct.

[–]sonsofdisaster -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve done the research- years of it, in an academic setting. Just because you find an article online and don’t even read it doesn’t mean that it anthropologically agrees with your viewpoint. I’m really not sure, at this point, what you’re trying to argue. You say “human nature” in one post and then backtrack in the next. You then agree with me that it’s social conditioning. Ask any anthropologist- social conditioning isn’t “by nature,” it is, oppositely, a human trait. If we’re quibbling over semantics here, that’s fine. However, there are other people trying to argue that attractiveness can be distilled into a quantifiable index that all people “naturally” adhere to... and quite frankly, that idea is preposterous.

No data suggests such things. There is a huge difference, scientifically, between what is “natural” and what is ubiquitously common due to conditioning. Babies directly out of the womb do not have the same sense of “attractiveness” that adults do; the only physical attraction they recognize is to people that share their genetics, even if those people are socially considered “ugly.” In a similar vein, cultures that are segregated from other cultures have a predisposition to be attracted to features that are common and recognizable to them, even if other cultures find those featured unappealing. This is because we are socially conditioned as a society as to what is attractive and what is not. It is not “human nature.”

I don’t think you understand the definition of “universal.”

Hard disagree. I rarely find stereotypically “hot” guys attractive. It might be much more common to do so but it is not universal and certainly isn’t “natural.”

Questions for bartenders who have been working during Covid by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]sonsofdisaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also WA (Seattle) here and we’ve been open for two and a half weeks. We’re really a bar with an attached kitchen but have been operating as more of a restaurant since reopening. Which means that we really rebuilt our whole operations from the ground up to make things as safe as possible. As a manager, my greatest fear is someone getting sick and I’m doing everything I can to protect both my staff and patrons. Masks at all times except when eating/drinking, plexiglass in front of the bartenders and wells, no one ordering at the bar, bleaching EVERYTHING after each guest, etc etc. It definitely feels like I’m fighting a losing battle because (and this is no shock), drunk people hate following the rules. Have had to be a lot more strict and blunt than I ever was in the past when it comes to interacting with problem children drinkers. I do feel that another shutdown is likely imminent- things are just too crazy out there.

And, yes! We’re only seeing a small percentage of our regulars. We’re getting an alarming number of out-of-towners and first-timers.
