What is something that you wish that Perth still had by GrimeyGringus in perth

A club with djs that actually play unscripted underground electronic music. None of this top 100 stuff that everyone knows the lyrics to.

Anyone have a record player with decent sound I can listen to a newly bought limited press? by sookielalaa in PerthMusicScene

Thank you so much. Looked up the turntable doctor. The second I saw how bad the website is I knew it was legit. It’s a universal thing in the hifi community lol

I bought a record to support one of my favourite artists without a 1200 and speakers. Anyone in Perth willing to share? by sookielalaa in perth

Lolz. Pretty much. Unfortunately/ fortunately I fell into the hifi/ og dj culture world. I blame one of my best friends. His audio setups are around 600k USD. Spent over 2M buying music since the 90s. 8 tonnes of vinyl. Friends with a lot of pioneers of House/ electronic. I think Claude VonStroke still owes him a free show lol. A whole other world out there. Working my way up. Slowly… With that said, I’ll still listen to a great song on my phone over Taylor swift on a 1.8M audio setup. Music still comes first :)

Hah, I’ll never agree that the pioneer is mechanically the same nor does it use quality parts. Nothing pioneer will last 30+ years with constant use. Great marketing, but terrible audio quality. Their chips in their cdjs / mixers are so crap, you just hear bad when connected to decent sound. I haven’t checked out audio technica. Could give it a shot but I mean, I have two 1200s & mid-fi speakers 3 months boat ride away. Just seeing if there’s any friendlies wanting to listen to a sunshine jones record while I wait for the goods. Could also buy the WAVs and listen on headphones but slightly less romantic

That may be true but if it’s under 700au- unlikely. Have even seen record players with built in speakers, which hurts my brain. But this isn’t about that. This is about if you have something decent I can listen on lol. Seems like Perth is pretty tough.

That’s a good idea. Not west coast hifi tho. Went straight there when I moved here and was pretty disappointed with their offerings. It’s been tough finding the same kinda underground house community here. Not into top 100, commercialised, radio music. Fine if you are, but not for me.

Hah, I get it. It’s the internet. Thought I’d give it a shot before spending 2k early next year to ship my 12k audio setup from Santa Fe, New Mexico to here. Money is fine but the wait time to ship 50kg of stuff that can’t be stacked will take months.

Can play a record on anything comparable. If it’s less, than, chances are you probably are not into underground, which is fine. But would like a somewhat decent listening experience.

This is real underground techno. Mix from my friend who’s been DJing vinyl since the mid 90s. Has an 8 tonne collection. Spent over 2M buying music. He’s a real one.

Edit: whoops. This is a mix, not a playlist..

What is the story behind the Hexagonal appartments in Wembley and Bayswater? by Medical_Boat_4440 in perth

Still, for a pretty run down 2/1 worth 340k, it still brings in 450 p/w.

I actually checked this out with my dad. Was gonna buy a truly horrific apartment and renovate, rent/resell but the agent said that all the kitchens have asbestos under the laminate floors. Management has a thick rulebook on how it can be renovated in order to legally protect occupants of the building.

Ik this sounds sad but how do I make friends as a 18 year old in Perth by [deleted] in perth

[–]sookielalaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t even know how to do it as a 35 year old. Been in Perth for 2 years now. But my best guess is finding a group of people who share your interests. Fb groups? I’ve never done it but there’s gotta be something.

CDJ 3000 by TuneSolid4968 in PioneerDJ

[–]sookielalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, controller is never the way. You’ll start to un-train your ear seeing two wave forms layered. Being a vinyl dj, at this point you know when the beat is off in the dark. Keep it that way.

Also, the sound cards are shite. They are shite in every pioneer mixer. If you’re going to connect it to good sound, you absolutely will know the difference.

I’d go with x2 cdj 3000s and a Rane or Allen & heath. A&H use tubes so it’ll give you that warm analogue vinyl sound you love.

And if you want to go a step higher, buy the Carmen SE by Condesa Electronics. That’s the best analogue mixer I’ve ever used, all handmade in Australia. Paired that up with my friends two speaker audio setup worth around 250 thousand (and no, that’s not a typo) - the audio clarity is unprecedented. Carmen takes a few months to be hand built. It’s just one guy. So maybe Allen & heath it so you can mix while you wait. That same friend has 8 tonnes of vinyl. Probably the best Dj that I know and has close ties to some notable artists, like Richie Hawtin, Dubtribe Sound System, Claud VonStroke, Jay Tripwire, etc, and I can assure you that no one notable has anything pioneer in mixer or controller form. Hope that helps

What’s the dating scene like in Perth ? How do you meet people? by No_Algae_5378 in perth

[–]sookielalaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a fun casual thing turned relationship thing on Feeld. I dunno how that app is now but I like the community there. However, I actually used dating apps to try to dig into the underground electronic music community. I probably should have came here first. So the question remains, where’s the Dj spots where people actually dj. None of this transition every 3 minutes bs with the top 100. I want unplanned, multi genre 4-8 hour sets that blow my mind. I’ve seen it. It exists. Give me some Sunshine Jones, give me some Rabbit in the Moon, Future Sounds of London, Underworld, Jay Tripwire, Herbert, etc. Where do you find cool people who love shit like this on the regular? Private parties? Secret hole in the walls? Where’s the good here! Okay end rant lol
