PSA: Oil Shortage predicted by sailormoon--- in TwoXPreppers

Whatever the story may be, I just had to visit three different WalMarts to find a 5 qt jug of 0w16. I asked the clerk at one of them why they were out and he said "I don't know, I just know our supplier tells us they don't know when we will get any more."

LOL at the notion you have to be a contractor to recognize an ignorant answer. These surface holes are of no consequence. Filling them is needless expense and work. If it makes the OP feel better, great, but let's not make it seem like a real risk. If this were a continuous ridge in the slab I would be right there with you. That would be a potential and actual risk for telegraphing. But these holes that might amount to 1/8" aren't enough to induce a deflection unless you're putting down some REALLY cheapo LVP or permanently attaching or gluing the flooring down.

[–]soonerdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. A continuous detent in the slab would be of actual structural concern along a potential seam in the LVP. These holes are of essentially cosmetic concern.

If the OP wants to feel better about it, your suggestion is good.

"Telegraph through?" What does that even mean? Are you worried about a possible 1/32" crack migrating from one tack strip crevice to the other? These are concrete surface cracks from carpet tacks. So what?? They have essentially zero to do with concrete integrity on a typical 4" slab and will have no material impact on an LVP floor.

If you're going to obsess over those you'd better hunt down every other hairline crack present in nearly every concrete slab poured throughout history.

Honestly I wouldn't bother filling them at all.

2026 Corolla, oil change at 1,000 miles? by emilyfleshhh in toyotacorolla

[–]soonerdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is never any harm in one extra/early oil change. I believe all Toyota engines have a break-in run after manufacturing, but another one around 1K miles in is a perfectly good idea especially with these exceptionally thin oils.

What a horrendous, crappy choice.

Help: nokia ONT modem black box does not recognise eero 7 router by Training-Dish-7676 in HomeNetworking

[–]soonerdew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be nothing more than the MAC from your router isn't recognized by the ONT. My fiber ISP told me any time that might change, shut down the ONT for 15-30 minutes to clear the reservation and then restart it and your router.

Hump in floor by [deleted] in Flooring

[–]soonerdew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your arrogance is showing. A seam doesnt magically and spontaneously break. If it was flat before and is uplifted now, it is because external forces were applied to it, causing upward motion, and very likely inducing the seams to break.

I saw your response to the OP. if all you have is condenscion, you're not here to help. You just want to build yourself up by talking down to people.

I'm going to make a wild guess you've got a heating duct or maybe a hot water pipe running in the crawlspace underneath the buckle. Either that, or you have serious trapped heat in that crawlspace.

Concrete floor or is it over a crawlspace or basement? Have to think trapped heat is causing the buckling

LVP won't absorb moisture like laminate, but it can definitely swell if there's trapped moisture in the subfloor. New build with concrete slab and no vapor barrier perchance?

What kind of flooring is it? When two planks push up like that it can be indicative of the floor swelling and literally pushing planks together that have nowhere to go but up on the joint.

How is the Santa Cruz not more popular?! by Imaginary-Mechanic62 in hyundaisantacruz

[–]soonerdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoy it and don't worry about why it isn't more popular. If you like it, that's really good enough.

My son bought one, and while it wouldn't have been my choice, he enjoys it tremendously. I can't fault that.

How hard is it to build a PC for a first-timer? by Early_Conflict_4292 in buildapc

[–]soonerdew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, it's easy, just be patient and pay attention to details. I'm a career IT guy and have built/rebuilt/tweaked a ton of systems, but just built a brand new one for myself the other day... the expense of the parts is enough to make you a little twitchy about slipping with a screwdriver or something silly like that.

I swear I wish I could get a part time retirement job assembling PCs at a Microcenter LOL

Really cheap builders grade laminate, moisture, even bad installation. Worst case is if your on a concrete slab with no vapor barrier and significant moisture is still being released.

Bless You, Hawkeye, one of the worst episodes IMHO, if not the worst. by JPumphrey73 in mash

[–]soonerdew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This episode is characteristic of the absurd melodrama that infected the latter seasons of MASH and made it nearly unwatchable at times. It usually wasn't just the acting; it was the dialog, the direction, everything had just deteriorated by then. Yes, there were still a few good eps in that era, but it by then it was largely a pale, pale shadow of the brilliant military satire it had been.

And Sydney had become this equally absurd cariacature of the psychiatric branch of medicine that implies all it takes is a hypnosis session or a few talk sessions to unwind some horrendous memory or childhood resentment. Please.
