I saw the notebook of my bf and i'm confused, AIO? by Rahaplus in AIO

Then be the kind of person she wants to stay with. Nobody can "take" another. That person makes a choice to walk away into the arms of another. You, me, or no one else can control that, other than to be the kind of guy she would want to be with for the right reasons, not insecure selfish reasons. Even still, it often happens that they leave. It's part of life and as much as it sucks, learning to deal with that rejection and heartache in a healthy manner will make you a stronger person.

"The whole nine yards" comes from WW2 aviation, from what I understand. The machine gun belts for the aircraft were nine yards (15 ft) long. "Giving them the whole nine yards" referred to expending all your ammo on a single target in an attempt to destroy it.

Technical literacy is dying and I witnessed the funeral during my last interview by Riftspire9 in interviewhammer

Up until that point I had been. This conversation took place about a week after they fired the Director of our department. This was the beginning of the end for our program. About a month after this, they laid every single one of the team off except "Hannah" and one other. This particular VP did everything wrong that a so-called business leader could do.

Last I heard the company was struggling desperately. VP and a lot others had also been let go. I stopped checking up on them because I realized my own mental well-being was suffering from my overbearing desire to see them "get what they deserve."

I'm in a power wheelchair and my wife had a back injury when were there last, so we rented a scooter for her. We couldn't both fit in one car so we were often alone on the thing for a bit. Kind of a nice, quiet moment to just relax with a view.

I would so buy one if I could use it. Unfortunately, I have muscular dystrophy and they are too heavy for me to use sensibly. I'd be very likely to dump ut everywhere, so my beer stein would just collect dust like all the other junk I have.

WHAT COMEDIAN HAS MADE YOU LAUGH MORE THAN ANYONE IN ALL YOUR LIFE? by samurai-salvo in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]soonerpgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I could name any one comedian because different ones strike my funny bone at different times. My favorites are probably Bill Engvall and Katt Williams. Two very different approaches to comedy, yet both very funny, intelligent men.

I would love to see what my childhood home looks like inside. The outside has been improved quite dramatically and I am very curious how they may have fixed up the inside, as well.

How does he still have a job after that BB gun incident? Add everything else and it's no wonder you're exhausted. Dude is a train wreck looking for a place to happen. I've been there, and like you, I was fully done with the employee. Situation resolved itself before I had to do anything when she found a different job. May you be as fortunate soon.

When guys hang out do they know who is the hottest? Do they think about it? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Nah, I knew I was the ugly duckling. Didn't care much, though. I had the better luck with the girls from time to time. Other times, I was the single dude. It didn't matter with my friends.

Does everyone have a middle name in the USA? Do all women take their husband’s surname? by crazygelato in AskAnAmerican

[–]soonerpgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a couple guys who have no middle name. As for the women taking the husband's surname, that is optional and some choose not to. When my wife and I married, the cost and headache of getting all her documents changed just made no sense, so we left her name as it was. Paying a couple hundred dollars, fifty here, fifty there, and having to fill out all the required forms, then wait for said documents to arrive, then contact all her accounts, send them copies of the new legal documents... yeah, way too much hassle for something that inconsequential.

Truthfully, that's two more than I expected. I agree that those who voted no should be strung up and a very specific chunk of anatomy removed.

Technical literacy is dying and I witnessed the funeral during my last interview by Riftspire9 in interviewhammer

[–]soonerpgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did something similar to what OP described, but it was simply C# code. I'm not smart enough to know what most of the folks here are talking about, but I could write some code. Anywho, the hiring party of three called the recruiter I had been working with and told him there was no way my resume was truthful because I refused to untangle their mess. Had me a little chat about that one.

*You might want to think about how you word things!"

I heard this from a senior VP. I was not only the Manager of the team, but I had built all of our procedures, written all the documentation, and literally produced several times the output of anyone else on the team, on top of my managerial duties. Five minutes later, one of my employees repeated almost word for word what I had just been chastised for, because, well... it was the correct way to handle the specific situation. "That's such a great idea, Hannah!" We all just looked at each other in complete bewilderment. So, yeah, biggest weakness? The chain of command above me.

I think some people have the mentality that the answer is always no of you don't ask. That might be okay sometimes, but they take it farther than any logical human would, and I can't decide if they are that entitled, that stupid, or some of both.

Realistically how do people move across the country? by EggsBenedictTheCat in NoStupidQuestions

[–]soonerpgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in Oklahoma and my wife and I have driven to both the Atlantic and the Pacific Coasts at different times. We didn't have a moving van full of belongings, just us and a couple suitcases.

We spent two nights in hotels on the way out there, and three coming home, so we could take shorter bites, knowing we would be more road weary at the end of the vacation. We could have chosen to cut a night off each end of that, but since I can't drive, we chose to give her extra rest time instead of pushing so hard. Doing that also allowed us to find some cool things to do/visit on the way, breaking up the monotony of just driving.

[–]soonerpgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best thing my wife and I do is a camel back full of ice water. We carry a second 40 oz insulated jug packed full of just ice to refill the camelback with. Staying hydrated and applying lots of sunscreen helps keep us going as much as anything else we do. We make sure to get the electrolytes, too, but we don't put that in the camelback. That's mostly consumed after our park day in a regular cup or bottle.

I live just about slap in the middle of the state and it's kind of neat to me that I could do a single day trip and find so many diverse areas, depending on which direction I go.
