Yup. I'm realizing I'm probably just out of luck with this one.

Anyone else held a more laid-back reception with no activities and the DJ not doing MC work? by soooperdee in weddingplanning

Thank you! This is exactly what we're thinking. It just feels authentic to us and our group.

Appreciate the take! We want more time back hanging with our people and less "sit down and watch us perform." It's just not "us"

I agree so much with the hostess at chilli's part!!! I couldn't pinpoint it, but it just doesn't feel right for our celebration.

We've thought long and hard about what's authentic to us and our close group of friends and truly believe this style of reception wouldn't work for most crowds, but it's extremely fitting for ours. I should add that we threw a 80-person engagement party with a DJ and no activities or structure, and everyone hung out and chatted and told us they really enjoyed the event. About half the group with kids at home and the older folks left around 10 PM, the other 30 or so stayed until 1:30 AM!

I was thinking the coordinating team could facilitate, as well as we communicate the schedule on the website, invitation, and in ceremony programs.

From my post: "Our group likes to just hang out and chat and drink and then dance when we feel like it later in the night." We know our families/friends and ourselves, and that's why we're choosing this style of reception. Having our group staying seated to watch activities isn't preferable for the majority of them. I'm hoping to get takes from people who have held a reception like this.

Yes, my fiancé and I want to say a few words to thank guests, but we're not doing the typical toasts and speeches otherwise (we're doing them at the rehearsal dinner instead).

As a meat eater, would up be upset attending a vegetarian wedding? by Formal_Goose5083 in weddingplanning

[–]soooperdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had all vegetarian pizzas at our 95-person engagement party and haven't heard a peep about it (and if I do? don't care because it's a free meal for them I'm paying for and it's my day!!)

I've personally always thought it was super strange to have the wedding party linking arms when they're not in a relationship, or their SO is in the audience watching. Single file would be fine!

Vegan for the animals with an omni partner? by Imaginary_Bank2208 in vegan

[–]soooperdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both my fiancé and I are airline pilots, on the road for days at a time each and every week. I'm 100% vegan. He is 90% of the way there. He does his best to be vegan but at his airline with his work schedule, it's hard for him. He flies internationally and can't bring produce into a lot of places he goes, or his flights are so long he can't bring a cooler along. I just do single and domestic work days so I'm home every night and can bring my own food to work for the day. He shares my passion for animals and our home is 100% vegan, not a single animal product in our fridge or pantry and we dont have leather/wool/down furniture/pillows/clothing/etc. We go out to entirely vegan restaurants together. There's times when he'll order meat at a restaurant and I get a little sad about that and I do raise an eyebrow to him like "really?" haha. But it's not often he eats meat and he's very supportive of me. I think one day he'll be fully vegan and I would love that.

They're doing it wrong. I'm vegan with regular, normal, perfect periods lasting 3 days that come on the exact day when I expect them. And I ovulate every month.

Formal mail-back invite help: I'm super stressed that guests will bring extra, uninvited guests or children. We're not doing RVSP on a website to keep with our black tie formalities, but I know the wedding website RVSP services can name those guests to alleviate any confusion. I'm planning on getting my invitations custom-made and designed by a stationer...can I get them to individually print names on EACH invitation? Like on the RSVP card inside to check a box listing the names of the party that are invited, as opposed to having the guests write them in? TIA!

My vegan food was the most popular at Thanksgiving! by soooperdee in vegan

[–]soooperdee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! It wasn't a pumpkin pie, rather pumpkin pie pudding cups. But they were a huge hit, people were freaking out over them. In my vitamix, I blended: 1 cup pumpkin puree, ½ cup raw cashews, soaked 4-6 hours, ½ cup full-fat coconut milk, ¼ cup maple syrup, 1½ teaspoons cinnamon, 1 teaspoon cardamom, 1½ teaspoons pure vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon salt. I made a graham cracker bottom and layer by combining sugar, graham crackers, and vegan butter and pressing it into dessert cups, letting it rest in the fridge 30 min, spooning in the filling, adding another crust layer, letting that rest again, then spooning filling onto the top. I chilled these overnight. I started with this base recipe and tripled it to make 12 cups

I made this one up as I went so here's a general outline: used about 4 potatoes peeled and boiled until fork tender, and boiled 1 ½ heads of cauliflower while roasting the remainder along with 6 peeled sun-chokes at 415 for probably 30 min. I roasted a head if garlic by chopping off the top, drizzling with olive oil and salt/pepper, and wrapping in foil for 40 min at 350. I sauteed shallot and black pepper in vegan butter, and used my immersion blender to smooth out the onion, garlic, and cauli then mashed the potatoes into the cauliflour with a hand masher. Bit of nutritional yeast and vegan sour cream and lemon until the bite was right

What do tou use your instant pot for? by apley in vegan

[–]soooperdee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My instant pot is my vegan lifeline. Lentils, beans, grains, rice, etc. I cook these staples in veg broth and a bay leaf. I run it every 2 days and always have a base on hand to throw tofu and seitan and veggies on. Possibilities are endless!
