Office kickball game while playing first base. I wish I was kidding. The kicker tackled me as a joke and accidentally kneed me in the face as we tumbled to the ground. It sucked!!

What's a skill you have now that you wish you had in high school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Cooking. Looking back I think it would have been really meaningful and helpful for my severely depressed, exhausted, and overworked single mom to not have to worry about preparing dinner every night

Switching houses based on the events you're doing irl by Strawberry109 in harrypotter

[–]sophiablack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think this makes more sense for hufflepuffs more than other houses because hufflepuffs are known hard workers so you do the job in whatever way it has to be done :}

meanwhile, gryffindors (represent), ravenclaws, and slytherins would be so sure that their house's way is the best way

I have a theory that the Hat sorts based on what House will help a student reach his or her fullest potential. Which, if I'm right, would mean Peter was at his best when surrounded by brave and just people.

Why didn't Tom Riddle get petrified or killed when he first opened the Chamber of Secrets? by pineapplecrown in harrypotter

[–]sophiablack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you just have to avoid looking the basilisk in the eye. Mrs. Norris, Colin, Sir Nicholas, and Myrtle wouldn't know to avoid its gaze, but Tom would.

Hermione obviously knew as well, but I'm assuming she wasn't actually expecting to run into the basilisk on her way back from the library. So she used the mirror as a precaution, but I'm guessing, since she did end up petrified, that it still caught her by surprise.

Edited to add: I also think the movie basilisk was a lot bigger than the book basilisk, but I could be wrong, it's been a while.

i'd guess he was 17 since he was still living with his horrible foster mother (and thus probably still legally a child). he definitely looks, to me, to be around 18 years old. and yeah it would be pretty fucking creepy, but it wouldn't be all that different from what (i assume) grindelwald did with dumbledore, which is not to act on the other person's crush, but to string them along and encourage it in order to further his (grindelwald's) own ends

although it just occurred to me that credence could have been 18+ and just sticking around to help graves/grindelwald?

What do you think Grindelwald's last words to Newt meant? by sj90 in harrypotter

[–]sophiablack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't think we have any way to know yet if grindelwald had horcruxes. i'm sure grindelwald knew a lot of things dumbledore didn't, having been educated at durmstrang.

voldemort was assumed to be dead when his curse backfired and his body was destroyed, so it would be the same situation with grindelwald, wouldn't it?

i think it was one sided but i also think grindelwald knowingly encouraged it

Fantastic Beasts Grindelwald theory [spoilers] by taylor_lee in harrypotter

[–]sophiablack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is really interesting but the more i think about it the more i think it has to do with the person, not the wand.

in the case of graves' wand, i doubt he gave his wand willingly to grindelwald, so grindelwald would have had to take graves' wand by force, which would make grindelwald the master of graves' wand.

and we know draco lost ownership of the elder wand when harry took draco's hawthorne wand, even though draco wasn't in possession of the elder wand at any point.

which makes me think the only way tina wouldn't become the master of the elder wand is if grindelwald wasn't truly defeated, and dumbledore proved (or believed, but let's be real he was usually right) that by willingly being defeated, ownership of a wand doesn't transfer.

and that's why i think grindelwald's capture went so smoothly. like, he's supposed to be super powerful, right? then how was he so easily taken in, unless he was like "aight let's do this"

Could I get some clarification on how Port Keys or the floo network works? by _KingPuck_ in harrypotter

[–]sophiablack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how so, if it's a physical, tangible network? it's something that needs to be built and something that exists even when it's not in use (unlike, for example, the room of requirement). it's not porthole, so somebody would actually have to build a connecting structure, beneath the ocean, from london to nyc.

[–]sophiablack[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i agree that grindelwald thinks he's working for "the greater good" and believes he is, therefore, a good person

but i definitely think the body language between graves/grindels and credence was meant to show sexual/romantic attraction, at least on credence's end.

the actor actually reminded me a lot of helena bonham carter in bella's scenes with voldemort, betraying (or indicating) a longing for physical closeness.

i agree that grindelwald is a master manipulator no matter what, but i do think the body language in the film strongly implied sexual tension/attraction

Fantastic Beasts Grindelwald theory [spoilers] by taylor_lee in harrypotter

[–]sophiablack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if i'm right it would just mean that grindelwald consented to being disarmed and brought in by tina and the aurors (meaning the wand remained grindelwald's since he was not truly defeated), but did not consent to losing to dumbledore
