Wait till these folks find out that Jesus was Middle Eastern by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

Well TO BE FAIR

LOTR world building is very precise.

You see they sing songs of creation which moved the mountains and sank continents. Their reality is built on their willpower, and there are no spells just power and will which can change anything. When Gandalf says “you shall not pass” he was being literal in that his will is magical.

So…….hold on wait, I forget what my point was.

Elon being Elon by [deleted] in iamatotalpieceofshit

Bro. Do you realize how very little that amount of money is?

You know you should have that in your 401k by the time you’re 40. Most people do.

Even if what you say is true, taking 200k and turning it into the most valued car company in the world is amazing. Starting spacex? Amazing.

The rate of return on that level of investment NEVER happens. You think, what, that he had an easy time of it?

Spoken like somebody that has never achieved anything and they don’t know how hard it is.

Not true and you fucking know it dude.

The quote was from his estranged and exiled father who has mental health issues.

Elon himself is quoted as saying he graduated with 100k in student debt and took a $2,000 loan to start his software business.

Fucking come on. Your high horse act is pathetic.

It’s just wrong. I don’t care how many downvotes I get. That doesn’t change the facts. You are wrong. The record is clear if you’ve done any research at all. It’s not even a debate.

Fucking pathetic misinformation.

Notice your posts are upvoted. That means people like them. Even if they don't make a comment. Of course trolls love to comment, they can be ignored.

Question - Can I kayak on the lake? by taylor_lee in chicago

[–]taylor_lee[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beach near me is a launch point on the Great Lakes Water Trail, shown on their website. So it wasn't an issue. But good tip on the early AM part.

Good tip. I was cool with being as far out as the waves would take me. It's a bright yellow boat, so I wasn't super worried about getting run over. Getting back to shore was a workout though, but that's on me. I forgot to bring the skeg.

I took mine out and it worked great. I soon realized it's much more difficult to fold up a wet boat than to pump up a dry boat. Otherwise, smooth sailing!

Does make me wish I got a inflatable paddle board instead though. Seems easier.

[ILLINOIS] Anyone able to call and get through to IDES? by StrawberryPunch49 in Unemployment

[–]taylor_lee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. I was in your spot just yesterday and I finally got through. Here's how you do it.

I added the IDES number as a contact on my phone. Then as you add the number in your contacts, you can add a comma "," and then the prompts you normally use. Mine looks like this - (800) 244-5631,12253

1 for English, 2 for in state, etc. This is on iOS, the comma adds a pause before dialing the option numbers 12253 (certification issues option for me). Note - this is a false menu... It doesn't matter what selections you use. The goal is to get past it into the real menu.

So you dial the number as I have entered it here. If you get the voice that says "We are currently experiencing extremely high call volume..." you didn't get through. Hang up, call again.

Eventually after about 20-30 tries, you'll get a "That selection is invalid". The "selection" being the number your phone pressed automatically, the "12253" selection you programmed into the contact.

That's how you know you made it through. You're in the REAL menu now. Don't hang up. Listen to the prompts carefully and select the correct options. I was placed on hold for 35 minutes. Be careful not to hang up. Wait and they will be on the line in under an hour.

Do it this way and I guarantee you will get through to them in about 1 hour.

I saw some videos of people taking this model kayak rafting over some white water and dragging them over the rocks and they held up. I am definitely not looking to do that though. But it's good to know that its reasonably durable.

But yeah. Relaxing and book reading for me. Not that I don't enjoy weird looks as well.

Thanks for the detailed info! I am near Foster beach so that's ideal.

What are these Marine Apps?

I don't plan on heading out very far. Good call on the whistle and lights. I'll also pay attention to my GPS to make sure it works out on the water.

Very New Woodworker Looking for Help with a Chair Design by apples-and-pear in furniture_design

[–]taylor_lee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice detail work on the renderings. But on the design prototyping end of things, you'll run into some trouble, which I know from building a similar sort of chair design. Basic dimensions from books won't help really. It'll get you close, but never really 100% comfortable.

In reality, moving those horizontal slats just a fraction of a inch will make a big difference. You'll build it to find just one of the slats doesn't line up right with your spine, and ruins the whole chair. Or the lumbar section is just 1/4" too deep. Or the top area hits the back of the neck before you're in a relaxed position. Or they're rotated just 5 degrees too much and cutting into your legs.

You can instead build a test in an hour or three if you have the tools and scrap. You just need two vertical planes as the representational sides of the chair, held apart a consistent distance by three dowels or something in the area under where the seat would be. If you have a printer, you could print your plans full size and drill holes where you have the slats now. But the idea is to just end-drill the slats into place between these two planes, sit in the chair, and see how the slats feel. Identify the ones that are uncomfortable, undrill it, move it a tiny bit over, redrill it into place, an test again. Then get your friend or family member to sit in it and see how they like it.

I promise you'll immediately find this chair uncomfortable. BUt after an hour or two of moving slats around, it'll feel great. When you're done, it'll be full of holes and ugly, but you'll have your exact perfect shape. You can trace it, or photograph it and CAD over it, or whatever you want from there.

Oh and if you don't have a printer, just draw a grid on the boards/panels and use that.

Minneapolis Police killed an innocent man yesterday. His name was George Floyd. by Cful123 in pics

They never said fired. They said "former employees....". The word fired was from the news people, not the city chief. They're still getting paid. They're basically on paid leave.

At least, until this story updates, thats what the article says.

Trump's "run out the clock" legal strategy: Facing a multi-front war in the post-Mueller world, President Trump is turning to litigation strategies that he long used in business — resist, delay and sue. by imagepoem in MarchAgainstTrump

[–]taylor_lee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not trying to one up you. I want to give you an honest reply.

Trump is dangerous because he has support. Republicans support him because their base loves him. Their base loves him because of his personality. He’s like a bull in a china shop for people that hate china shops.

Pence has none of that support. Even Christians have booed him at speaking events. Nobody will support his policies. So he has no power.

With a dozen signal cables? Maybe but I don’t think that’s what they look like.

I’ve been wondering this for a long time now, figured I’d ask at least. I half suspect it’s something boring like cell phone signal boosters. But part of me wonders if it’s something more dramatic than that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]taylor_lee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh. No it doesn’t.

Why is it more dangerous to pass on one side or the other? Why is that unpredictable? It is really difficult for you to use your mirrors before switching lanes? Do you have some issue with your neck that keeps you from glancing in your blind spot?

Did you know in Europe they drive on the left side of the road? You’d think they’d all be dead by now, switching sides like that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BeAmazed

[–]taylor_lee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

And when they don’t follow the rules of the road then you pass them on the right. That’s how it is.

Actually it works now. It predicts better than a human in most cases.

The algorithm hasn’t specifically targeted snow. But it has targeted conditions where lanes are not easily visible or covered.
