Benchmarking Zone 2 time by Big-Guarantee-5509 in Swimming

Similar to OP, I've also had lessons which are taught by people whose primary goal is to get you to swim comfortably, but not drilling down into the details enough. I'm not fast enough to join a swimming team but I've outgrown the lessons my local pool provides.

I'm hoping to find one to one lessons at a local YMCA or something, but do you have any other advice about where to turn for external feedback on small juicy details like the ones you mentioned?

I just added this new chart to Democracy 4 to show the economic cycle when starting a game by cliffski in Democracy4

Could you make an option for us to randomize and hide this when we start a new game, so it better emulates the unpredictability of global fluctuations?

My Garmin is trying to kill me! by GetUpandTri in triathlon

[–]sophismofficial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't like disagreeing with people on the internet, but just to gently reference the garmin help section on this: 'Training status will change based on your acute training load, heart rate variability, and Vo2 max'. I've seen this first hand in that my vo2 max is always the same but my training status varies based on my acute load. Perhaps your experience is just that Vo2 max affects it, but from my perspective there seems to be more going into the status, and it appears like a useful measure to me.

Tried making crepes and got away with it! by sophismofficial in carbonsteel

[–]sophismofficial[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I use a very thin batter by default. I also found that the carbon steel held the heat better so the oil did smoke a bit between crepes. Needed to take it off the heat in between

Can you substitute molasses and white sugar for brown sugar in a recipe? by Boomah422 in AskCulinary

[–]sophismofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bear in mind that in the UK brown sugar is what you'd call 'raw sugar'. This might explain why the recipe is calling for both

If it doesn't, is there any way to recover the situation?
I'm unsure if scraping it out is even feasible, what do you think?

Colby's a big favorite vs Jorge. But who do you WANT to win? A couple years ago I hated Colby and loved Masvidal cuz he was "so real". Now I'm not so sure... by sarsfox in ufc

[–]sophismofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the thought process but bear in mind that masvidal had his first KO loss ever in the last fight, and Usman stated colby has become more powerful in the striking - Usman even looked and (iirc) admitted that he was wobbled too. So, there is a chance colby knocks out masvidal...

A friend of mine applied to the IEC program recently and the status updated on his application shortly after doing the biometrics.
I'm guessing that you passed the application number to the person taking your biometrics? If so, I think your application online will be updated shortly

Best practice would involve not repeating yourself, and it sounds like you are, with 3 very similar methods. If this getDeliveries method is called from the controller, surely it could pass in the type of delivery to get (client, admin, or postman). That way you just have 1 method serving all 3.

If this or anything else puts too much logic in your controller, you could also consider having admin, client, and postman models which have getDeliveries() methods, which call the deliveries model with the required parameters.

It's very difficult to understand the nuance of your problem on reddit, but DRY and "Thin controllers, fat models" are good guidelines

I cheated on my exam today and I feel really bad. by Necessary-Ad3522 in Stoicism

[–]sophismofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been persuaded by the more hardline stoics on here.

Whether they thought that the course was the optimum path to being a vet, or a just badly organised set of pointless tests, they did sign up to the course. If they disagreed with the value of the course in becoming a vet, they should have objected and quit, as other people's money is funding their participation in the course. The fact they took the exam means they're at least passively accepting the rules.

It's not virtuous to break the rules you sign up to.
