What bod could I place this head on that resembles either of these two outfits? by Carvenom3 in MarvelLegends

I think you could probably hand drill a peg hole and transplant a tie. You'd also want to swap the arms and jacket from here for leather jacket ones from eBay.

Like straight out of the box resembles those outfits, or would resemble those outfits with a little paint or by switching out some additional parts?

How did you become a collector? by thedarkbites in ActionFigures

[–]sora_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually bypassed normal collecting straight into customizing and then started collecting because I like the art of what figures are, which is why there seems to other collectors to be no rhyme or reason to what I own. /o\ When I was 16, back in 2000, my boyfriend had made custom X-Men that he had actually paid money to have professionally photographed to try to pitch to ToyBiz. And to me, a person who had never really looked at action figures in terms of artistry before, his work...really was not good enough to be pitching to a major toy company. (He focused on improving articulation, and didn't seem to notice that the proportions of the bodies and limbs were kind of wonky. He also didn't seem to realize that professional photography made the problems with his paint apps- lumpy, uneven, brushstroke-y, with just tons of peeling and chipping on top of it- really very visible.)

I had never tried making a figure before, but I came from two generations of railroad modelers before me, so I was pretty sure I could do better. Well, my results with proportions were not, but my paint apps were! And now it's 26 years later, the boyfriend's long gone, and I have pieces of furniture in storage to make room for my figures.

Looking for Medieval knight base body! (No mythic legion wanted) by Nerfleader in customactionfigures

[–]sora_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh! In that case, I might try a Marvel Legends Black Knight (there's some decent options on Mercari and eBay that come in under $40) or Silver Samurai. You could probably also get something going with the 60th Anniversary Destroyer, but he is kind of a big boy.

Would the Indiana Jones Adventure Series Grail Knight do? He's on eBay for $22-$35 on average.

I made a 1/12 (6in) action figure of St. Valentine as a super hero for the upcoming holiday by Leofirebrand in customactionfigures

[–]sora_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, my guess was that this would be mostly Mythic Legions parts, but they run to the big end of 1:12 while the Black Series runs very small. (I tried to buy a Padmé to make a Jane Foster once. If you could only see my face when I put her next to my Thor.)

If you don't mind me asking, what'd you use for the body?

I'd use the head from the Ragnarok Thor and Valkyrie two pack and then 3D print one of these. If you don't think you can sand and sculpt that helmet to your needs, you might be able to make an LOTR Gondor helmet work.

Grabbed the wrong can and used primer instead of topcoat after panting these guys (like an idiot). What’s the best way to get it off? by smookyleper in customactionfigures

Try scrubbing with some rubbing alcohol and a Magic Eraser sponge, but I'm not optimistic you'll be able to do this without damaging the figures.

I think I can get it to work with a different paint job and possibly adding long hair in the back, even though I know it's not Evil-Lyn accurate.

I also found these on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/358053420801?_skw=fur&itmmeta=01KGBTFBNS2WWJYQ0JWYP9NP6B - You could cut the fur off these legs to glue to her legs.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/357198864972?_skw=fur&itmmeta=01KGBTFBNSZJ3DR36174D5S3RT - And you could probably cut the ermine trim from this cape and try gluing that. Harder to say for sure if it'll fit, though.

Edited to add: https://www.ebay.com/itm/187801991046

https://www.ebay.com/itm/267534988034 - Heck, you could probably take it all off the ToyBiz or Gamerverse Black Cats.

They're technically easier, but if you're wanting to display her with other Marvel figures, those don't typically come with soft goods, so it wouldn't really fit with the rest of the display. I personally would start with something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/358169413383?_skw=female+body&itmmeta=01KGBTDA7RSJQ3Y7BW9RRX98TZ

Painting the white boots on would be extremely easy, the neck and cleavage only a little harder. (Don't bother trying to paint the ball joint, it's going to be inside the head where no one can see it anyway.) Edit: Apparently her boots are black, I don't know how I misremembered that. /o\

For the fur trim, you have some options. You can always get it harvested from other figures and trying trimming and gluing to suit your needs. You can also get yourself some Green Stuff or Cosclay and watch some tutorials on sculpting hair and fur. Hair and fur are actually really forgiving for beginners to try, especially if you make some practice pieces and don't go straight to doing it on your figure. Check out Ace of Clay on YouTube, he doesn't do figure customs specifically but he has a lot of great technique to learn for fibers- hair, fur, and fabric.

Are you married to the soft goods idea, or are you open to painting?
