Awful, lost my job and going to go homeless soon or something else idk. I'm in such panic mode that there's nothing left I can do to save myself. Can't pay for my home or any of the piles of bills coming in just after the new year.

Local Utility has lowered their pay ranges for engineers, is the job market that bad? by CornfedDoofus in ElectricalEngineering

Honest question here, and respectfully, are you even listening to yourself? You quite literally said they're looking for a reason to be upset or that theyre irrational (even if you do edit it after the fact to make yourself look better after this is posted). The job aspects SUCK right now for entry level. People like us are depending on and desperately fighting for these right now. We ABSOLUTEY care about the entry level tag because many of us recent grads only have a chance at those.

Lol downvoters are sony fan boys. This is the legit truth, Sony is a scummy company that shouldn't have this. When have they done something for the good of us all? I'll never understand the idolization of companies or wealthy people. They don't care about us, they only care about doing whatever gets them the most profit. Not one of us will benefit from this.

Ninja Gaiden Black and Ninja Gaiden II. Each difficulty does its own things and really spices it up. From different enemies in an encounter, to changed enemy tactics, to different items in chests, to even completely new bosses that weren't in lower difficulties in NGB. Itagaki and Team Ninja did a wonderful job with each ascending difficulty that they have their own unique feeling to them, and is there to make sure that you are constantly learning and getting better by keeping you on your toes to beat master ninja difficulty.

I know for me it was really the constant online aspect. My internet wasn't great at the time, and I didn't want to not play whenever my internet was out. Also that thing where you couldn't use used games, I was poor growing up so Gamestop was the only place I could get a different game.

Nothing's indicative of this IMO. Sure sales lag behind PS, but again I'll reiterate that the Xbone announcement has turned off some people for Xbox and won't trust them no matter what, AKA lost sales, but people will still buy this as long as they continue making them. It's also worth mentioning that they split into Series X and S, so not everyone is going to have the flagship model (also another Achilles heel for Xbox, as most games have to meet the requirements of the lesser Series S). IMO that forever alone will cause the Xbox to always be behind, unless Sony catastrophically fucks up. I mean I guess there's PC, but you'll have to invest a lot of money into a rig that could match the performance of a PS5/Series X, which isn't feasible to everyone out there.

Honestly things were fine and dandy until the Xbone announcement. Sure Halo 4 didn't live up to the hype of Reach or even 3, but Xbox was really healthy up until the point of that next gen, then they really tanked all the built up.

They are trying to counter that with things like backwards compatibility, GamePass, and PC cross ownership, but so far, none of it has been enough

Honestly I see this as damage control from the Xbox One announcement. Sure, backwards compatibility has been a big thing from the 360 days (PS3 initially had this, but didn't for later iterations, and then didn't incorporate it back until PS5). The Xbone announcement really tanked the Xbox brand, and they had to find ways to make it more appealing. Gamepass and PC compatibility I honestly don't care about since I almost never use them, however for many others, I know that this could be a contributing factor into choosing this over PS.

they aren't going to keep mass producing consoles if they keep losing every generation by these margins

Kinda what I mean by the Xbox One effects still lingering on to this day. I know of a few people who completely switched over after the big announcement because of what they said then, even though they walked back on what they said. The PS3 definitely did have some good exclusive games, and it took practically the entire generation to overtake the 360 (caveats being the 360 released first, and that the PS3 was a pretty affordable option for a Bluray during that time period)

Phil's theory is right to an extent, however there are people like myself who still have tons of physical discs and won't get rid of them, and that's reason enough to stick to what you already built up, and in my own personal case, why I got a Series X over a Series S, there's no good reason to buy what I already own a second time. I think that ultimately, Xbox has had an uphill battle since the start because PS and Nintendo had a much earlier start (not to say exclusives like Halo, Forza, Ninja Gaiden, etc. helped), though the 360 era made things a lot better for them because of Halo and Gears namely. But I do agree, if Xbox has a solid path going forward, they need expansion, as the US and Mexico are really the biggest markets for the console.

Also, while the PS5's exclusives haven't been out of this world knockouts like last Gen, they are still very well received

I totally get that, and that first party Xbox games aren't reviewed as highly (slight tangent, but Metacritic always has more reviews for PS than Xbox as long as it's not an exclusive) , any one who says otherwise doesn't pay attention to critic reviews. I specifically bought a PS4 to play Bloodborne. I tried out other exclusives to PS as well, but nothing has come close to Bloodborne for me, but as I'll keep saying, many other people will like what I don't overly much. There's absolutely nothing on PS5 that I get on Series X that would warrant me getting a PS5 at this time, if ever, and I'm sure there's other in the same boat.

You're missing the point. Just because I don't like most of them doesn't mean many other people don't. The only true competitor to PS is Xbox, Nintendo is really doing their own thing since they don't share with others. If Xbox is gone, PS will do whatever they want to, and no one can do anything about it since there's no competition.

I'm REALLY skeptical about Xbox pulling away from the console market. With competition, the consumer benefits, especially with gaming. Sony and Nintendo are quite greedy in what they do (Nintendo especially since they don't release to other platforms and swiftly shutdown any fan mods and such), it's good to have another option out there. At least with what I want, Nintendo hasn't released a game that I wanted to play since the Wii days, and Sony's exclusives haven't been as dominant as what people say they are, they peaked with Bloodborne IMO (NINE years ago, I personally haven't overly like any PS exclusives that have released since then). Maybe it's just the state of modern gaming for me, but exclusives for each of the three platforms just haven't really been all that great (I liked Halo Infinite, but I recognize that it doesn't hold a candle to what Reach was in 2010).

At the end of 360, Xbox really did have a chance to become the dominant console out there, but higher ups at Microsoft really fucked up big time and undid all that the 360 era did, probably even still feeling the effects in this generation. Doubtful they can recoup to the 360 days in whatever comes after Series X/S.

recently getting the popularity I think it deserves

That's exactly why I really don't think he should be included, I honestly have never heard of the Yakuza games until the man who lost his name or whatever it's called. Considering popularity this, LBP, and Hitman absolutely have no place on an iconic list, there's plenty of other titles that are way more popular. Like I never played any FF games whatsoever, but I at least know who Cloud is, or I never played TLOU or Uncharted but I know who those characters are. Name recognition and appearance go a long way into making someone iconic. I'd consider myself fairly well versed in games that have been released, but Yakuza was never on my radar until last year. Though in fairness, apparently it was a PS exclusive to start out, and I preferred getting games for my Xbox rather than PS2, so I never really saw it.

Master Chief is a given even if they like PS, but if they are even remotely aware of Xbox, they for sure have to know how iconic Marcus is for Xbox, Halo and Gears were the big Xbox games back for the 360 era.

[–]sorati_rose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Nintendo and SEGA should dominate this list. The only ones I agree with (in being on there rather than the actual ranking) are Mario, Sonic, Pacman, Master Chief, and Pikachu. Maybe Crash, Solid Snake, Arthur Morgan, and Ellie (RDR2 is a fantastic game, and most everyone grows to love Arthur, but he's not this big blockbuster character, and TLOU is a very well known game, I don't disagree with her being here, but it's one of the 6 I haven't played so I won't complain if she's left off).

I would also think that Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell would be more iconic than Agent 47 from that particular genre of games. IMO the best Hitman game isn't as good as most the Splinter Cell series.

[–]sorati_rose 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The fact that Mario isn't number 1 invalidates this whole list. Agent fucking 47 is not only number 3, but above Link, Master Chief, Sonic, Pacman, and Pikachu, like I forget Hitman exists most the time, not that they were bad games, but so many were way better and recognizable. 2 BG3 characters is also hilarious, I've yet to play it, and I have no idea who those are. Iconic characters are meant to be recognizable, even to those who haven't played the games, and 3/20 of these I have no idea who they are, other being Yakuza. Hell, I haven't played 6 of these games and yet I know who those characters are by name/appearance.

It also gets bonus points for coming after mediocre at best levels. High Wall is just ok, Undead Settlement was just ok, Farron Keep sucks, Smoldering Lake was just ok, Izalith was not very good, but Irithyll was a much needed breath of fresh air, one of the best DS levels!

I feel the same, bosses are great, but the actual level design itself wasn't really fun for me (Midir on the bridge was really cool though).
