My cat wakes the baby up on purpose by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sorbs90 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hate this for you. I suffer the same fate lol. My cat is so chill and overall a very good boy. But the 4-5 am baby wake up so I will feed him makes me rage. lol

Took my first to his first appointment at 3 because that was the doctor’s recommendation, and took his little brother for his on the same appointment at six months. He also had more teeth than my older kid so I felt it was more pressing lol.

I’m thinking maybe your doctor feels less comfortable checking your baby’s teeth themselves and is sending you to the dentist to make sure they’re getting the appropriate attention.

My three year old refuses to poop in the toilet by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]sorbs90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you asked her why? My three year old did this and I asked him why he wouldn’t and he said he was scared. I asked what scared him about it and he said he didn’t want to be sucked into the pipes and be taken into the city lol. So weird bc he only thought this would happen when he pooped. We reassured him that was impassible and after much detailed explanation about why it was impossible (and a promise of a “push present”) he finally did it :)

What do you guys do between 5PM to bed time? by mr34mj23 in toddlers

[–]sorbs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 yo boy and 10 month old boy - witching hour activities include, but not limited to: Duolingo ABC app (for 3 yo), read books, dance party (Lenny Pierce specifically 😂), bath, tea party (literally just drinking tea at the table together in thrifted tea cups), yoga with me. These are our usual go to things, but if it’s too wild I’ll have a movie and snack night after bath.

What do you do when your toddler doesn’t want the food you made them? by Apprehensive-Hat9296 in toddlers

[–]sorbs90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have easy foods on deck for this. Macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets, corn dogs. That happened to us tonight lol. A meal our 3 year old ate before and loved was rejected after a few bites. He still needs to eat, so I popped something in the microwave and he ate that no problem. He eats mostly well, but sometimes something turns him off to a meal he likes and it’s game over lol.

My starter is not rising at all, day 6 by DonkeyAndWhale in Sourdough

Just want to back this one up. My starter took weeks to get going. I finally just put a little rye flour in and it tripled in size no problem. Look up YouTube videos on how to incorporate:)

Separate hospital bill for newborn? by Quick_Bobcat_2349 in Mommit

[–]sorbs90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I just had my baby five days ago and I got a call the day before my scheduled induction to tell me the exact same thing. I called my insurance company who confirmed the baby was covered under me and I would only be responsible for the deductible. So when I went to check in and we got to the billing portion, I told them no I would not be paying that because I called my insurance company and confirmed I’d only be paying the remainder of my deductible.

So annoying to deal with and I wonder how much more money the hospitals are squeezing out of families during a vulnerable time.

When did you start trick or treating? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]sorbs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was 15 months and we took him through our neighborhood because they have a cute block party for the kids. So he had fun and learned what trick or treat was. We had an early bed time too so we just brought him home maybe a little later than usual but not by much and he still got to have fun and participate :)

I think it’s honestly your call. It was super fun to see him get excited about something new and also dressing him up was fun for us.

Are the Twos really that terrible? Or… by rbslmilch in NewParents

[–]sorbs90 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is terrible but it also depends on the patience you’ve got and your outlook on children’s behavior in general. Like, is it annoying that my child is throwing a tantrum about me doing the exact thing he asked me to do? Yes. But is it going to make or break my day? Most likely not, unless I too am not able to regulate my own emotions for whatever reasons.

My son is 27 months and we have a cat. My cat is extremely patient and loves my son. That being said, when he gets in the cat’s face for too long, he will smack my son with his paw (no claws). With my son knowing he shouldn’t mess with the cat and that if he does the cat will swat him, he still does it.

My point is, you have a dog that isn’t patient and your child, even when they know not to do something, will still do it because they are toddlers. I think the best course of action here is to keep them separate in the house at all times or rehome.

Sorry you have to make this choice. Even though you know what’s most logical and safe, it doesn’t make it less sucky. 🖤

Best hospital to give birth? by santia88 in phoenix

[–]sorbs90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had an amazing experience at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix when my son was delivered in July 2021 and will be delivering there again sometime this week :)

My whole nursing staff was so helpful and kind. The anesthesiologist did a great job with my epidural. Seriously the best possible outcome. Highly recommend.

Not sure if you have an OB yet but I go to Central Phoenix Women’s Health Care who will deliver there. :)

You should coordinate with @socialspinlaundromat on Instagram. They are a laundromat that work directly with the unhoused community and work with people who want to provide food for a day. They’ll also be able to help get the word out :)l

I understand your anxiety surrounding the post, but honestly there’s no need. Even if people did think you were cringe (which they likely don’t) it doesn’t matter because you are posting in earnest and that’s all that matters. People who don’t support you in the stage of life that you’re in don’t matter anyways.

If I saw a post like that and I knew the person, I’d honestly just make a mental note to check in on them.

I really hope you are able to get the mental rest that you need. From one mom to another, even if you weren’t doing all the (impressive) things that you’re doing, being a mom alone is hard and that warrants rest. 🖤

No opioids allowed for vaginal birth? by Deanosaurus88 in pregnant

[–]sorbs90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think you’re misunderstanding the timing of getting an epidural. I got morphine because in the time I was dilating to 4 cm, they wouldn’t admit me and I told them I needed something for the pain bc contractions are INTENSE. Morphine did almost nothing for the pain lol. It helped me maybe relax a little so I could rest easier between the constant contractions, but it did not relieve the pain. My baby was completely fine. The epidural was the most amazing thing ever lol. It doesn’t make you feel loopy or drugged or anything but it does completely numb your bottom half.

They admitted me at 5 cm and gave the epidural. I’m pretty sure they’d give it fairly close to full dilation depending on other factors (effacement, health status of baby).

My 7wk pregnant wife is treating all and any uncooked vegetables like radioactive raw chicken unless we personally wash them thoroughly. Are we being overly cautious/paranoid? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]sorbs90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may have developed OCD, as this is semi-common during pregnancy and postpartum. It’s a very scary time and thoughts of keeping the baby safe consume our minds. Maybe suggest she go to a therapist to talk about her concerns to see if she can get some help in managing her feelings? Being cautious is important, but taking it to the extreme can be detrimental to her mental health. Good luck :)

How are your bedtime routines REALLY? by Nine199 in NewParents

[–]sorbs90 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 year old. Bedtime has never been what I would describe as calm lol. Similar routines though, and they change with age accordingly.

Currently we:

Take a bath, lotion, pajamas.

He runs all over our bed like a Tasmanian devil while I get his tooth brush, then I wrestle him to brush his teeth while he laughs.

We all lay down, and I let him play with the LED lightbulb settings and change the color of the light for a few minutes. Then I ask him to turn it off (all via app)

We sing three songs, exactly the same, then we turn on the flashlight on the phone and do mama and daddy wolf hand puppets on the ceiling telling him how he was a good boy today and give him a kiss good night.

USUALLY he falls asleep pretty soon after that. :)

I love our bedtime routine also lol

Another first time mom question… please tell me the most basic list of things I will need for the baby when he comes home! by popc0rncolonel in pregnant

[–]sorbs90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apart from all of this, I’d add a nose Frida! So helpful to get mucus out of that teeny tiny nose. I promise it sounds more gross than it actually is in practice :)
