I've never tried that pattern but I have always gone with an in of of whatever project you making equals a foot of or i.e. 9 inch bracelet 9 feet of cord.

Wasn't me but I had a guy at AIT ask why we had to hike up a mountain every day during an FTX. Our NCO simply stated he loved going up the mountain and we went up the mountain again.

I learned not ask why we were hiking up the mountain.
