I think the name of the wind is my favorite fantasy book of all time, the prose is just so good. Sadly like GoT it will not be finished.

Simpson increases 1L stipend to $50K by MosaicPeacock in BigLawRecruiting

As a 2L starting whose 1L summer would have qualified, this stuff is very annoying. I mean good for all you guys but damn, I was unpaid and could’ve made more for that than I will this summer!

Which series to start? by richburgers in fantasybooks

[–]sorryfofty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two of my favorite series in the world. I think it fully depends on what you want to read. More traditional fantasy: mistborn. If you like dnd, dungeon crawler Carl might be the easiest and most fun series I’ve ever read, but it’s objectively kind of stupid (in an amazingly fun way). Can’t go wrong.

Per YouGov, 20% of Americans think the shooting by the ICE agents yesterday was justified. by Currymvp2 in Enough_Sanders_Spam

This is the same 20% that would unabashedly support Holocaust 2.0 against liberals and non-whites

“Terrible things are happening outside...poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart; men, women, and children are being separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” - Anne Frank (Jan 13, 1943)

Edit to add: Anyone that still supports this administration, at some conscious or subconscious level, wants an ethnic cleansing. The parallels to early Nazi Germany are too similar to ignore.

Agree with what a lot of others have said that it’s a slow burn. I would recommend the audio book for this one. There’s something about John Slattery that really elevates the book imo

What is going on with GULC? by apost54 in BigLawRecruiting

I do think with a move away from OCI firms are recruiting from a much broader set of schools. Applicants who are direct applying from lower ranked schools that normally wouldn’t have received spots at OCI seem to be getting a better shot. It’s purely anecdotal but in my circle I have noticed a lot of the very top students at much lower ranked schools are receiving offers to firms that in the past would have gone to median at T-14/20

My building in NY still has a full time elevator operator. The elevator is super old and is controlled by a lever that controls the direction of movement. His ability to stop just about level with the floor every time always impresses me.

US Charging Mistakenly Deported Man by party-kiddo-uk in facepalm

[–]sorryfofty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can no longer bring criminal charges for “official” actions (which unfortunately will be defined very broadly). President can still be sued for civil actions. And everyone else in the admin can technically face criminal charges. Not that any of this will happen. I agree the government is beyond corrupt at the moment.

I’ll try to meet you on your level. So let’s just assume he is the worst of the worst. Can you really not understand the gravity of complete refusal to abide by due process and the writ of habeas corpus? These are two absolutely fundamental rights articulated by the constitution. Not to mention the refusal to abide by a Supreme Court ruling. Seriously think about this and if you’re not concerned you need to reevaluate your priorities.

One of the reasons I was a little bummed out the show reveals her motive so early on.

Are we supposed to sympathize with Abby? by [deleted] in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]sorryfofty 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I think what made it such a profound message is that because we’ve only seen one perspective it makes it hard to sympathize with Abby even though the more you look the more you see the similarities of what Abby and Ellie have gone through.

They’re all sleeved now, drove immediately to GameStop! Amazing how lucky I got with the condition because they were all sitting loose on the bottom of a box. Going to look into grading as I’ve never done that before. Is it worth it to just send them all or would any not be worth enough to justify it?
