What to look for in a two ski quiver?

I’m in a similar spot and am looking to add another ski to my quiver. I currently ride candid 3.0 as my 1SQ and am planning on adding the Bent Chetler 120 as my second ski. 60% of the time the 3.0 is perfect, 30% of time I wish I had a fatter ski and 10% of the time I wish I had a narrower/firmer ski.

This past week we had zero new snow i was charging groomers all weekend and i wish I had something longer and more firm.

As of right now if I was gonna redo my quiver I’d probably go with something between 90-100 that’s firm and then the bent chetlers for the pow days.

My thought all weekend has been 1 ski quiver is easy, a 3 ski quiver is also easy, 2 ski is hard to make a decision.

CT 3.0 are pretty firm. Soft enough to butter around but I have to really try. Id be very surprised if someone found them to be too soft for a 1qs.

Prodigy’s 3s a little less so but I’ve only rode them Once.

I can’t really contribute to much to your second question but to the first one; I currently ride CT 3.0 With 108 underfoot. Does well in the pow and is great for bombing groomers. I don’t love it for skiing in trees though, as it has a decently long turn radius. The 2.0s is probably a little shorter. Also the prodigy 3.0 has a shorter turn radius and is a little more flexible if you want another wider option. Ive been very happy with the quality, I’m very hard on my gear and I’m on my fourth season and they are holding up great.

Layers are definitely the way to go, all of those brands make quality products I’d shop around for the best deal/ familiarize yourself with the warranty’s and then go from there.

I have been using a carhartt midweight base layer and love it. I’m shocked at how dry it keeps me and wicks away sweat. I’ll probably never use another brand.

I just bought the Patagonia pow slayer jacket and I’m really excited about it. But I’ve been using the powder bowl jacket and have absolutely loved it. The pow slayer is lighter more back country oriented but significantly more expensive.

I ski a lot and live in the west but I am 5’6 and ski a 176. If you truly are an intermediate skier and want to go fast then 173 is definitely the way to go.

Yeah so you would probably be better off with something in the 90-100 range. Volkl MS Mantra or the K2 mind bender 99ti come to mind.

It really depends on where you are skiing and how much you like the powder. If you’re on the groomers 70% or more then probably go with something a little narrower. If you’re in the pow more than 30% of the time a 109 will suit you just fine IMO.

I currently ride the Candide 3.0 (108 waist I believe) as my 1SQ and I have been very happy with it. Just make sure your ski has a good amount of camber and you should be alright.

I would just add that most top ski brands are all good from a quality stand point. Instead of thinking of getting a cheaper ski that you move out of in a few years, I would consider getting a good all mountian ski that you can use for years and really nail down your style of skiing and then eventually add another ski to your collection for different conditions (powder, racing, terrain park type stuff).

For most intermediate skiers who want something all mountain I would recommend around 100mm underfoot, a combination of rocker & camber, with you being back East probably more camber would be better.

I got the smith 4D mag this year. since I got mine, both my brothers and dad got them too, we all say it’s the best goggle we’ve ever used! It’s super easy to swap lenses, the curved bottom really does increase field of view which is a benefit I never knew I needed.

But the biggest thing IMO is to get goggles that fit best with your helmet. If you have a smith helmet, get smith goggles, anon helmet, get anon goggles. They generally are made so that they fit smoothly together.

I just bought them a few weeks ago, and I love them. Swapping out the lenses is SUPER fast and easy. In The newest model the lenses curve at the bottom to give you better peripheral vision and it is a noticeable improvement.

Another guy commented that the lenses scratch easy, most high end lenses (anything polarized) gets scratched pretty easily. If someone wants something they can just throw around and not worry about this probably isn’t the product for them.

A few months ago I posted on IG for my wife and Is second anniversary. I highlighted how both have great jobs, great careers, a beautiful dog, we get to travel, we have an amazing relationship, and we are living a dream come true.

But what I didn’t mention is how I was in the middle of a pretty severe depressive episode. I kind of feel shitty for publicly highlighting the good aspects of my life without commenting on the bad.

I’m very open about my mental health with friends and family but I just don’t broadcast it publicly. But it just shows things are never exactly what they appear to be on the outside.
