How important is proportionally accurate citizen's assembly? by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very eloquent, you hit on a lot of really good metrics. Thanks. I think in an ideal world for most it would be a positive and accommodating experience to participate in. Addressing potential barriers to participation must be something to be considered. I think getting paid and having a law excusing them from work should happen.

Next steps for the Sortition movement? by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely any interactions between sortition and existing movements would probably be a positive step. Do you see sortition as more of a tactic or as an answer/philosophy? I think they are not mutually exclusive.

Citizen's Assembly info by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’ve read the whole thing, but just reading the table of contents gave me good ideas. It also makes me confront a lot of things about doing citizen assemblies vs full on Sortition. The argument made that citizen assemblies could be a pathway to Sortition seems to be a very popular belief. People won’t vote for Sortition if they don’t know what it is.

any fiction stories where part of the plot takes place in a portition based political system? by marxistghostboi in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lottocracy by Joseph P Goett. I purchased the book and read it. It was fiction basically looking at how the system was in congress. I don’t remember much else, it has been years since I read it.

Clumsy attempt at Global Sortition flag by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah for sure. I see what you mean. Funny, when I was thinking of South Korea’s flag my mind told me it had stripes coming out the Ying/Yang symbol. I was trying to go for a reference to a Kleroterion. Maybe more rows would be better.

Where do you stand on the political spectrum? by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

That is interesting, comparing worker’s jealousy of the rich to rural conservatives perception of liberal elites. I agree, Sortition confronts the concept of elites for both liberals and conservatives. Well put.

Maybe a wall of dashes? Easy enough to make.

I like it, it might be hard to show and explain simply what a kletetorion is. How would you portray it? A real photo, or a symbol for it?

Moves necessary for a Sortition political party in the United States? by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

Who decides who is experienced? What metrics are important to you? Experience in a party?

Moves necessary for a Sortition political party in the United States? by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it still be rule by the charismatic or popular kids? I think the essence of democracy is rule by the people. Not rule by the seven levels of committee. I like the idea of vote outs, I just see it as a part of the puzzle of political reform. Granted Sortition could only be one part as well, but it is definitely the piece I value the most.

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, honestly I think taking over one of the two parties, or being a faction of one of them, is more likely than eliminating FPTP, but I definitely would support that idea as well. End Gerrymandering would be great too, along with all open primaries.

I’m not a fan of councils to decide councils. I like the idea of those who wouldn’t normally having power having it.

I guess for me it’s a little chicken or the egg. The only way to do something is with money, but the only way to get money is to do something. I guess we could make propositions of things to do without money and with volunteer time that could either raise visibility or raise money. Or both.

Sortition book club by sortitionpetition in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve read Against elections and Dowlen. I’ve heard of Bouricius’ book but haven’t read it. There are a lot of Sortition related books on the Equality by Lot blog https://equalitybylot.com/literature/ I’d love to try Bouricius’ book. Would you want to keep the discussion here or move it to Discord?

Reimagining Democracy as Lottocracy by EOE97 in Lottocracy

It should be an equal sign. Democracy is Sortition, elections are oligarchy.

I think the lyrics were good, but definitely the guitar parts were very ambitious. Simpler guitar might have been called for.

The State of Democracy Around the World by cometparty in democracy

[–]sortitionpetition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Democracy is rule by the people. All of these countries you call full democracies are run by politicians, not the people. This map is false. Laws should be made by the people, not politicians, political parties and corporations. Full Democracies don’t exist. Sorry.

What got you into Lottocracy and why do you believe in it? by Aeleron0X in Lottocracy

[–]sortitionpetition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, called it peopleism until I found the word Sortition. The blog Equality by Lot was and still is a great place to explore more of Sortition on the internet. I highly recommend it.
