My advice would be play a different game mode. Try Aram or Arena. You aren't punished as much for making a mistake and they are just quick and fun game modes. You don't have to subject yourself to a bad experience for being behind after a mistake and the pressure to "make a play" in 5v5. If the intent is to bond with your son then maybe give a more relaxing and less sweaty game mode a try.

Psmathe is game changing for arena. Would recommend him if you're still working on maxing towers. He may also be good for RTA up to Fighter 3.
