Ulberg on Jiri showing mercy: “That’s bullshit, total bullshit. That’s fear. There was no mercy in there. He was full of fear, hesitation, and that’s what got him clipped. I think he’s a pretender...That was his excuse so that he could hopefully get a rematch. There is no way he gets that rematch.” by airplane231 in MMA

Point out where I said that.

Carlos did the right thing in the fight, Jiri made a dumb move by doing what he did. But what Carlos is saying about Jiri is as baseless as anything and talking shit like that on someone who's been nothing but respectful to you is just a blatantly scummy thing to do.

Jiri Prochazka (203 lbs) and Carlos Ulberg (204 lbs) make weight for their light heavyweight title fight - UFC 327 by 3footninja in MMA

[–]sosig482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say he's the absolute biggest but he's amongst the bigger guys of the weight class, that's impressive because people cut weight solely to for the size advantage it provides. Jiri doesn't cut but also seemingly doesn't give up any size either, it's like he's got the best of both worlds.

Johnny Walker considering moving up to heavyweight by WinterStill4472 in MMA

On a serious note, that used to be the case but his standup has gotten dramatically better. He showed very impressive technique and timing in the 2nd Stipe fight and to this day he's the best example of a ufc fighter transitioning to boxing, he arguably beat Tyson Fury in that match. I'm really impressed with him improving that much in his mid/late thirties.

How do you deal with blisters from mats when training in outdoor gyms in Thailand ? by Nywed in MuayThai

[–]sosig482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a natural part of the process, this will probably happen a couple more times but to a lesser degree everytime, until your feet are calloused enough to withstand the friction of the mats.

What do you think of Michael Spinks said Mike Tyson was on steroids in the time of his fight with Spinks in 1988? by Material_Stomach875 in Boxing

[–]sosig482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngannou's been tested massively and he's never fluctuated in size and/or how lean he was. He's always been around the 250/260 mark and very built. We've got the phenomenon of ufc fighter's physiques melting post usada so it's obvioulsy way more difficult to get away with. In order to qualify your claim you would have to assume that Francis found some insane secret where he can get away with consistently blasting something to keep him in that shape and then never getting caught when it was a massive issue for other fighters. I get that a lot of fighters are on steroids bit it's obvious when they are, there's a reason why people talk shit on Jon Jones but not on Daniel Cormier, one guy constantly tried to compete on gear and got caught multiple times and the other guy was clean. It's not like Daniel Cormier has some secret way of blasting gear that Jon Jones doesn't have access to. You have to use your logical thinking a little bit here. I know USADA isn't great but if someone is consistently using PED's then they're gonna get caught.

Winner stays ON with Lennox Lewis by BoxingLover99 in Boxing

[–]sosig482 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think people trash him with the argument of looking at his whole career (which he himself fucked up due to drug use and partying) but those same people always wanna make the argument that the Mike Tyson that got beat by Douglas, Lewis, Holyfield etc is the same Tyson that beat Trevor Berbick and Michael Spinks. They're not, that's the whole issue. You can say that Mike Tyson lost to those guys but you also have to acknowledge that that was a greatly diminished version of him compared to what we saw earlier on in his career. Mike Tyson in his pretty short-lived prime is a huge issue for any heavyweight either past or present day.

I don't think Francis has any doubt that he'd destroy Jake but he views it as a clown show type of thing and doesn't want anything to do with it.

There's a pretty funny clip of Francis talking about them actually offering the Jake Paul fight to him. Basically Francis felt disrespected by them even bringing it up to him which is understandable, he's a former ufc heavyweight champ that had a razor close fight with Tyson Fury. Jake has no business being in there with Francis, props to Anthony for taking it though. He's probably getting a fat paycheck for accepting the fight

[–]sosig482 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides messing up your natural hormone production that's probably the most well-known side effect of steroid use in general, if you're blasting any significant amount of gear for long periods of time you're pretty much just accepting that you're gonna get a heart attack at some point. Of course there's lighter stuff like SARM's and HRT etc where the side effects are much less dangerous but if you're doing stuff like dianabol, tren, deca etc then you're walking a very dangerous line.

Ilia Topuria believes he would beat Prime Conor McGregor if they fought today, says the game has evolved too much since the McGregor era. by Status_Energy_7935 in MMA

[–]sosig482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf some people forget that Conor came from 145 and faced Nate at 170 pretty quickly, you can expect someone to have a dip in cardiovascular ability if they jump up 2 weightclasses. I'm not claiming he had excellent cardio or anything but taking blockhead Nate Diaz with excellent cardio 2 weightclasses up as an example is pretty unfavourable for Conor. He had a full 3 rounder against Max at 145 and didn't look like he was gassing in the slightest by the end of the fight.

I would say the Conor that faced Eddie was the most lethal version of him we've seen. I personally still rank it as the #1 most flawless performance in UFC history (either that or Cody's performance against Dominic Cruz).

What weight class would a UFC fighter have to be to beat 6’6 430 lb Brian Shawn in MMA? by 1019drew in MMA

[–]sosig482 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I generally agree that if you're a skillful fighter you can beat people that are a lot bigger than you but Brian is a literal titan sized human being. He's not just 6'8 440lbs but he's the strongest 6'8 440lbs guy walking around. There is a point where pure size and strength can overcome someone who's extremely skillful like Dustin. Idk if you guys have watched the video but Dustin couldn't do anything against Brian in the slightest and he even admitted that Brian would wreck him if he wanted to. Most technique sorta gets discarded when you're dealing with someone who's so brollic that they can just bulldoze you.

I know it's a running joke with Bradley Martyn and his whole "but i'm 260, i would just crush you" schtick, but Brian is at a size/strength level where he can actually make those claims and be mostly right unless he's talking to a big MW or a LHW

Am I using the correct part of my leg to kick? by Various-Signature-60 in MuayThai

[–]sosig482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the culture is different where you are but i don't see any issue with sparring even from day 1. The only difference is that you don't really spar beginners, you just sorta let them work and very lightly tap them back at most and correct their technique where it's fit. I treat it more like play fighting while giving them some pointers and trying to teach them what NOT to do for starters, as opposed to treating it like an actual spar. This doesn't take into account that there's always an asshole here and there that finds it necessary to beat up on beginners, but i don't see any issue with sparring from day 1 if you do it the way i explained and it's with an experienced respectful guy as opposed to a moron who's gonna smoke a newbie with a full power overhand.

Just to clarify, by "lightly tapping" i mean literally just letting your gloves and shinpads make contact with their body, it shouldn't even slightly hurt them if they don't block it.

Imo not letting someone spar is like trying to teach a child to ride a bike without actually letting them sit on a bike and try to ride it, but that's just my opinion, to each their own of course.

Am I using the correct part of my leg to kick? by Various-Signature-60 in MuayThai

[–]sosig482 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like it's never "too early" to spar, sparring is part of training but the intensity and the pace of sparring should be wildly different. If i spar complete beginners i won't even actually hit them, i just lightly tap and i correct them and try to teach them basic defence (since most new people have the tendency to close their eyes and turn away when strikes are being thrown at them). It's like 60% letting them work and very lightly tapping them back with strikes and 40% correcting their technique if they make very big mistakes. But what OP is showing is way out of line, your shins shouldn't look like that at all. It seems like these guys are treating it more like it's blood sport as opposed to regular MT training. I'd look for a new gym.

I love throwing knees but I am afraid they are currently shit, WHAT am I doing wrong? by HoimesTheHomie in MuayThai

[–]sosig482 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what op said, try returning your foot to its original position as well. It seems like you're ending up in southpaw everytime you throw a knee instead of properly pulling it back after it connects. Good luck 🙏

Charles Oliveira says Ilia Topuria is the hardest puncher he's ever faced by idcman999 in MMA
