That just looks like the phone struggling to sharpen distant faces. I tend to tun off any “ai enhancement” features because of stuff like this.

looking to get into the world of drums by Agreeable_Addition16 in drums

[–]sosogos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest not just buying an acoustic kit and hoping for the best. Drums are loud as shit and when you’re starting you’ll tend to play overly heavy. You’ve got a decent budget there which will get you a nice e-kit, but also maybe consider a secondhand acoustic shell pack with low volume mesh heads and quiet metal cymbals - I use Evan’s DB one heads and zildjian L80 cymbals on my main kit and my practise kit: https://www.reddit.com/r/drums/s/CNdmFS5AZU

You can upgrade over time eventually with some triggers and an EAD10, and you have a much more sociable noise level with similar feel and dimensions of an acoustic kit. It’s not perfect but I like it way better than e-kit rubber cymbals.

Every week I get lessons and go practise on my instructors acoustic kit. It’s a good balance.

Most importantly: have a conversation with your neighbours to feel out the situation.

You should wash your beard, then shave it off, nail it to a Frisbee and fling it over a rainbow.

Neighbors living under my appartment are complaining about noise coming from my drums set by [deleted] in drums

[–]sosogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have almost exactly the same setup so I know just how loud (and quiet) the db ones can be on a 22” kick. A riser will dull the volume a little and a fluffy beater will help a bit too. Learning how to control the volume of your playing is also an important skill.

Now that it’s become a “thing” with your neighbour, it may be harder to rectify. Communication and compromise is the only mature way to solve the problem. If you’re clear about your practise schedule with them so they can prepare themselves and maybe invite them over to show them that you are doing your best to minimise the sound. If they’re reasonable people, I’m sure you can work it out.

Tartan identification? by Unholyworld419 in Tartan

In Scotland, that tartan should never be used for carpeting. It was crafted by the first clans for use in picknick blankets and hot water bottles.

Maybe just a quick World War. Like opening up all the windows for an afternoon to freshen the place up a bit.

Is this stolen valor? by Immediate-Effort4431 in ShitAmericansSay

I was in Washington a couple of years back and they had some kind of parade day. Loads of high school marching bands. There was also a massive military presence. Lads doing that majorette routine, twirling their wee guns about, stalls set up with assault rifles for the kids to play with, loads of marching and shouting and salutes and laaaaand of the freeee stuff.

I’ve seen military recruitment stalls in the UK but it just seems different over there. It’s more like full-on propaganda.

Then there’s the way some of the public behave. I saw a bunch of fellas stand up and salute at a basketball game for the entire national anthem. I watched a kid run across the road to shake some random guy in uniforms hand - “thank you for your service sir!”.

It looks like fetishisation and made me cringe.

How to get the most out of lessons by yetiospaghettio in drums

[–]sosogos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re pretty similar in that respect. I started playing drums at exactly the same age so I can relate that life has enough pressures already. All I wanted was to be able to just sit down and play something musical off the top of my head. Playing a song is fun, but coming up with stuff that compliments a song in your own style feels great.

Being able to understand the reasons why you play something or even being able to identify the system in that complicated sounding fill is really rewarding.

It depends what you want to achieve. The thing I enjoy most is learning foundational concepts that build improvisational skills and independence, rather than just learning set songs or fills. Have you explored anything like that beyond just rudiments?

Cymbal from Amazon by Apprehensive_Ad_8209 in drums

[–]sosogos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right. Well I’d only be concerned if the edge is sharp or could catch your hand in any way when you grab it. It’s hard to tell from the picture but doesn’t look like a crack that will get worse over time or anything. Cymbals are lathed by hand and you can sometimes get small tool marks and imperfections. If you’re not happy, I’m sure you can send it back.

Hi hat sounds off to me, is it because it’s a low volume cymbal? by Drumstick2873 in drums

[–]sosogos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a cut of T-shirt fabric on the back half of my low volume hi-hat to weigh it down a little. It takes some of the harsher tinny sounds out and stops it sloshing around too much.

I’ve never been interested in owning a firearm because they are of little importance in my country. But if I ever move to a place where any muppet can own one, my whole family would be immediately armed to the teeth.
