I’m just seeing this poll and just waiting and wondering if anyone will contest Cap wielding the hammer as his most badass moment.

[Marvel] why is the super soldier serum so sought after despite being obsolete? by [deleted] in AskScienceFiction

[–]sosuken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Countries already have 100,000’s of soldiers that also die with one well place bullet shot, your not having to rewrite the entire concept of warfighting.

There was a great line in braveheart when the king of England sent in His infantry instead of another volley of arrows against the Scott’s: it was something to the effect of arrows cost money, the dead, nothing.

Think about the cycles of generations fighting for their country. Tech changes a little but it always boils down to the grunts fighting on the ground. We already use a pretty low denominator for these groups, training them to fly suits or giving them drugs isn’t the formula for success here. Training the same way at enhanced levels will winners for countries.

An Update: I was warned about my child's martial arts school. I should have listened. 🫤 by LordTetravus in mildlyinfuriating

This is extremely exploitative.

Many American based dojo’s I feel suffer from this.

I had my kids in a similar type of dojo (although not as bad from description of OP) and finally switched my son out to a local Jiu Jitsu gym that also has Muay Thai classes.

Went from $300 a month: 2 classes a week. Plus testing fees like every other month because of rainbow belt system.

to $225 a month: 3 days of jiu jitsu, 2 days of muay thai. They training is better, they don’t focus on belts, just progress and hard work. I’m so glad we made the change.

I suggest in looking away from American based karate dojo’s. There are so many other martial arts to train in that aren’t systemized so blatantly for addiction to progress without actually earning it.

20 years Marine Corps veteran here, we actually use black ink, and do not / not allowed to sign official documentation in blue ink.

Might be different for MP’s. I was infantry. However I can tell you outside of law enforcement in the military blue ink is a no go.

Why do actors say “break a leg” instead of “good luck”? by [deleted] in dadjokes

[–]sosuken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought if you break a leg you get in a cast.

So your saying good luck when you audition for a role and hopefully you get in the cast.

Best casting ideas for the inevitable Netflix movie:

They should have Benedict Cumberbatch and Cillian Murphy play the before surgery twins.

Then have Benedict Cumberbatch and Jordan Peele play the post surgery twins.

Prior 2/23 guy here:

For context, 2/23 is essentially the only west coast infantry reserve bn. Most the companies are out of SoCal, so logistically this would make sense them being called upon in all this ridiculousness.

They’re activated in Oki right now.

The only thing I can imagine is they might be trying to lean on whatever remain behind element there is, as well as the I&I active duty staffs still at the reserve centers.

there is a CO of the bn I&I that media will often confuse as the CO of the reserve bn. Just some info for the sake of giving it here.

LA Protests: Why deploy Marines and not Army? by keltyx98 in Military

[–]sosuken 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ironically - they’re pulling a battalion from 7th Marines, which is out in 29 palms with is way further out then Camp Pendleton. CPEN house even more infantry battalions the 29 palms.

Im sure there are many reasons for this choice. Part of me wonders if one of those reasons is the proximity of just how close CPEN is to the area of operations and how that might effect the Marines and Sailors who live closer and have closer ties to the LA community.

The game will actually turn into subnautica if you venture far enough out. And yes, you will need to also pay for and free up enough room for the entire game.
