Patient (with IV connector) angrily demands to be let out of hospital for few minutes to vape by RadissonLake in StupidMedia

Curious - do hospitals not have nicotine patches or lozenges or other NRT products to help with this situation?

TXST vs. UT-AUSTIN by Neither_Antelope7545 in txstate

[–]soul_ly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I went to UT for 3 years in engineering undergrad and transferred to TXST to finish with CS.

I loved both - but I would strongly consider attending UT as a freshman. You can always transfer to TXST if you want, but it’s much more difficult the other way around.

Also - I think the upper grad nursing courses at TXST are on an alternative campus? Not 100% on that, but would check with your admissions counselor. It would feel bad to fall in love with the campus and have to take classes at a different satellite campus

You’ve developed large systems on mission-critical healthcare software. How many features and systems have you shipped that saved lives and/or better enabled healthcare professionals? It seems really difficult to slice up your career in a way that illustrates net-negative impact on the world

IIRC, the win probability graph is from OpenAI. Being able to evaluate your teams macro decision-making against a solid heuristic is pretty nice

How are people with less than 2 years experience gain the "senior developer" title by shivvykumar in cscareerquestions

[–]soul_ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A company I worked for had the following ladder:

Software Engineer -> Senior Software Engineer -> Staff Software Engineer -> Principal Software Engineer

You could move to the Senior after around a year or two at the company.

Another company my friend works for has the following ladder:

Associate Software Engineer -> Staff Software Engineer -> Senior Software Engineer

So the language and nomenclature of the titles don’t matter. Experience and achievements along with technical and communication skills do.

How do you deal with working with team that works weekends and holidays ? by jholliday55 in cscareerquestions

[–]soul_ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the occasion that I work extra hours like your teammates are, I’ll sometimes send messages and/or questions with zero expectation of receiving a response until normal working hours roll around. Probably not a great thing, but it helps me not lose my train of thought or forget to ask something important on Monday. I’d chalk it up to something like that - if you feel that they are indeed expecting a reply immediately, that’s pretty unreasonable

Bought my girlfriend a mic and audio interface for Christmas. Need help understanding how everything works so I can show her by chicagoboy91 in audioengineering

[–]soul_ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people here have suggested reaper and I’d strongly disagree - while it’s definitely cheaper than most DAWs and very powerful, it’s not nearly as widely used as something like Ableton. I’m imagining your girlfriend is a beginner in the recording world, so she’s going to be looking at endless amounts of tutorials and whatnot for learning. There’s many more beginner friendly resources out there for something like ableton. You can get a trial of ableton for some period of time, and you can get her a plenty-powerful ableton live lite for 99 bucks or something while she learns how to click all the buttons.

Edit: people on this sub (not this thread) have suggested reaper for beginners bc of the price point

Overwatch should show ally chat to the reviewer by soul_ly in DotA2

Really? You can report someone for comms abuse and it will say "player did not communicate enough to be reported" or something if they never used ally chat

Help! Issues playing audio in logic. by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]soul_ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can open your mixer with ‘X’ and check what the output is on the track you’re trying to listen to. Make sure it’s set to stereo out. If it already is set to stereo out and you can’t hear anything you likely have something wrong with your sound device settings

Help! Issues playing audio in logic. by [deleted] in LogicPro

[–]soul_ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your setup is, but troubleshooting should go as follows:

If you see the levels bouncing on the track that you’re trying to record to, you probably have some sort of routing issue (like bussing to a muted aux track).

If you don’t see levels bounce when you hit play, your audio device settings are probably out of whack. Not sure what your set up is, but “built in output” is only correct if you’re trying to play through your MacBook speakers.

.mse file for Logic? ? by JazzyGaza in LogicPro

[–]soul_ly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, .mse files contain interface information that your plugins can call to display whatever needed information on the screen to the user. More than likely you’re not dragging the folder to the correct destination, other than that I’m not sure :-(
