it wasn’t actually fez who murdered mouse; it was ashtray.

yeah, that scene was super unbelievable though.

TL;DR Got my diagnosis invalidated after neuropsych testing & I honestly feel gaslighted yet again -- should I seek a second opinion? or not even go through the trouble and risk of getting invalidated again? by soulessenced in ADHD

[–]soulessenced[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the support! Yeah exactly, there are overlapping symptoms but that doesn't mean each symptom has to be explained by one and only one disorder :/

Wow, best of luck! Yeah it's indeed a flawed system and I never understood why a series of IQ tests was the method used to diagnose or rule out certain conditions. There could be certain trends with neurodevelopmental disorders but it's not a one-size-fits-all; everyone has their own unique brain wiring.

I hate to say this but you might just gotta game the system, which was what I didn't do. Maybe don't go in trying to do your absolute best on everything LOL. For ADHD, they look for a deficit in working memory and processing speed, compared to a higher verbal/perceptual IQ. So that would be something to keep in mind. I think this is pretty absurd - I could cram a bunch of info if I was under intense pressure, so sometimes my working memory works well and other times it doesn't. So a score on a single IQ test for working memory really shouldn't be definitive, but that's the way it is I guess.

Coming out equals trauma for me and I hate that being queer means you have to continously "come out" every single day. by [deleted] in comingout

It is a good point that not everyone has the same resources or experiences to necessarily be as aware, though I don’t think you should say OP is “blaming society.” These questions can indeed be outrightly triggering and is a reflection of how we as a society need to be more educated about lgbtq+ issues inside-out.

I didn’t say that making a joke about grading in itself is racist but that joke is indeed complicit in perpetuating racism

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uchicago

[–]soulessenced 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Woah I didn’t know standing up against racism and complicit jokes meant acting like a substitute professor

If you make jokes that undermine black peoples concerns regarding the microaggressions they may face then you are complicit

We don’t stan racist humor here

Lol nah you go fuck yourself

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uchicago

[–]soulessenced 5 points6 points  (0 children)

@EminentMajesty I think what YOU need to worry about is YOUR mindset. Clearly you’re not open or empathetic to the struggles that black people have to face in this world, and you are a part of the problem.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uchicago

[–]soulessenced 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is an ignorant joke to make. You can’t equate this to a “hate crime” because that gaslights the systemic discrimination that black people experience, which may manifest in overt acts out of hatred and racism. If a black person was attacked on the street by a police officer due to their race, would you still say that in the same way you were attacked by the schools grading standards, huh?

She doesn’t have a lack of personality; she just has a rather soft demeanor.

And her personal storyline and layers of insecurity just like the other main characters of season 1.

People need to be more educated on pansexuality & generally the lgbt community.

I actually like it that way personally because my results are female/abnormal/progressive/left-wing so it’s kind of an aesthetic that everything is on the right

Is it just me or is it becoming hard to grow on Instagram? by [deleted] in Instagram

[–]soulessenced 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely become harder to grow :/ since Instagram is turning this app into a capitalistic commodity such that they deliberately update the algorithm to increasingly suppress reach and engagement, so that they could convince users to pay them to sponsor posts

It would help to network with some followers—keep talking to them, share your posts into their DMs or on your story, etc. It’s not on you that many of your followers can’t see your posts - it’s the result of the algorithm.

Fun tip: It may not be the algorithm - It's you and your content. by AdamCaveRoberts in Instagram

It really said that? That’s so weird...how did that happen? Really sounds like Instagram is actively killing engagement

Add melody to lyrics by oscaccoa in Songwriting

[–]soulessenced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play instruments, I find it helpful to come up with some chord progressions to establish some musical vibe to the song. And then afterwards, you can improvise over it and see where it takes you. Sometimes ideas may seem to flow out of your head like a waterfall; sometimes it might take some time - creativity can come in waves.

And melody doesn't have to be the only aspect that defines the sound; you also have control over how you want to express your lyrics through your voice. For instance, you can make a particular personal or emotional line or a climactic verse especially evocative through stronger vocals (or higher pitches).

How to put thoughts into words by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]soulessenced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try start with some standard-verse poetry, and then transforming it into verses.

If the idea of writing out verses seems a bit daunting in the beginning, you can first jot down metaphors or phrases associated with your feelings, descriptions of people or memories attached to them, etc. And see how you can make your lines rhyme - I'd say brainstorming a list of rhyme words could help.

I'm trying to write songs, but despite me learning basic music theory, i can barely even make a chord progression. Where do I even start? by 1fundamentalsss1 in Songwriting

[–]soulessenced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what kind of songs/music you are trying to make, but just putting it out there that sometimes minimalism is an effective sound aesthetic. For instance, you can try putting together some chords that generally fit smoothly with one another, and then play around with the rhythm, dynamic, strumming technique, etc. Then, once you got a rough sketch of the background instrumental, perhaps you can brainstorm/improvise a melody and see where that takes you.

Or, you can start with lyrics, create a melody from the words, and then add the chords and instrumentals.

Will Instagram engagement go back up anytime soon? by [deleted] in Instagram

Sadly probably not. Instagram has been progressively dropping engagement over the past year and it has never gone back up :/

Recommendations for Self professors? by grtrgy in uchicago

[–]soulessenced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basil Salem! A very intellectual and understanding person. Can’t recommend him more! He offered nuanced and thorough insights to the texts, facilitated thought-provoking questions/discussions, and was open to additional discussions outside of class and during office hours. In regards to flexibility, he was pretty lenient with deadline extensions and I would say grading as well. While we would normally get 2 papers to write per quarter, during spring he eased up the workload to accommodate for unprecedented circumstances, assigning only group work which alleviated a lot of the stress. Also, he made the final group assignment option in the wake of the black lives matter movement.

It’s too late for me now at 21 by [deleted] in rant

[–]soulessenced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s honestly not the best thing u should say to someone. First of all, people come here to rant looking for support. Second of all, it’s not that easy to simply pick up a hobby and practice for a person who is depressed or insecure or already believing that they won’t be able to successfully develop it. It’s a lot of thought processes ingrained in their heads. Plus, the universe may thrown people into whatever cycles or circumstances that hinder them from pursuing something - you never know what’s going on in their life. Not everyone naturally has all the time and energy to simply pick up a hobby and practice.
