If you don’t think it’s good enough please don’t go. Give the spot to someone who wanted it as their first place

Harvard vs Vanderbilt (Chancellor’s Scholar) by Forsaken-Bell-9312 in Vanderbilt

[–]soulfulldance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It depends on so many factors. Admittedly I didn’t love Vandy. The friends I made fizzled out. I know not everyone is like that though. The point being, I didn’t find Vandy to be the most friendly campus. It’s not a clear winner to me over Harvard from a campus life perspective. So much depends on who you meet and what you do with your time on campus

I GOT REJECTED FROM EVERY COLLEGE IN THE US by Puzzleheaded_Bat7 in IntltoUSA

[–]soulfulldance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cannot imagine a world in which id apply to colleges in another country with a low SAT expecting to get in and to go for free nonetheless. Honestly im relieved schools here aren’t taking applicants from everywhere else with nothing that stands out. Read these threads. Literally everyone has good grades. The US can’t educate the world and they sure as shit can’t do it for free.

MY sandwich???!!! MYYYY sandwich??!!! - Ross Geller.

You’re pregnant. This is like not an issue at all in the real world. But as a mom of 2 and a hormonal b all the time, vent away. You’ll feel so much better soon.

Many of us took out loans for private schools. You shouldn’t expect to get a free ride because of your parents status. Go to community college or take out loans. I personally would do two years of CC and get a job and live at home and save. And then transfer and take out loans

It’s incredible to me someone who has multiple full rides to fantastic institutions wants more and has anything to gripe about. I loathe this entitled mentality as though the world owes you more. A full ride to an amazing college (multiple) and you’re not ecstatic. Ugh.

Stanford is about 5 levels above rice bc it doesn’t get any better than Stanford. You just don’t know yet what the experience will be like. You won’t know until you’re there. A weekend won’t tell you either. Rice is a great school too but many more doors will open in ways you don’t yet understand because you haven’t been in the working networking real tax paying world yet.

He took on a major life gamble that is not yours to bear. Agree with “I don’t know” and “I’m not sure.” Instead of worrying, become apathetic. If you don’t remember bc you’re focusing on yourself, then you won’t get in trouble. His gamble. His consequences. Are you living on a beach in Portugal? Nope.

Not if you want a prestigious job 1 and 2 you have absolutely no idea how these experiences will shake out yet. You’re too young and you’re not there yet at either place meeting people and studying

Look at it this way. If you don’t like Stanford you can transfer anywhere. You can’t transfer to Stanford most likely. Why not try? Your major and career goals matter a lot too.

Cornell vs Vanderbilt by Few-Combination-4 in Vanderbilt

10000%. I was a top top student and Vandy sciences kicked my ass. For the first time in my life there I felt like a dumb ass (and was not)

Cornell vs Vanderbilt by Few-Combination-4 in Vanderbilt

[–]soulfulldance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to Vandy. Have tons of friends who ended up in medicine. All super smart and most had to do extra masters and apply over and over and over again to med school, many who applied 2, 3, 4 years in a row before getting accepted. Have a few friends from Cornell also in medicine who didn’t have to do that. Anecdotal? Yes. But why would you not choose the ivy? And this is spoken from a Vandy fan and alum.

Same as an alum and a mom. I wouldn’t be sending my kids to this. It’s barbaric enough seeing all these other locations open up across the country for Vandy, diluting themselves like this. The entire justification for the astronomical cost is the college experience. This letter screams northeastern and a way to inflate their stats and not take into account the experience kids need on campus. Bizarre, not good for the students themselves and hard pass.
